Hey guys sorry I haven't posted for a bit. My metal health hasn't been the best and I've had school things going on. Enjoy this chapter! It's a good one.
-AnnabethA few years after the Initiation Week, Beth had been one of the best members of the Athenian Warriors. She had passed the Probation Period and gained her first weapon. As usual with Athena born children, she chose the a sarissa spear. She hung out mostly with the Athenian Warriors, but she still had friends who were outside of them. She still had Kenneth and Noah, but she had also been making friends with Mikayla and Marc. Noah's friends were surprisingly open to her, despite her time as an Athenian Warriors. While most of them were bullies, which was what Noah had warned her about when they first met, he still hung out with and trained with her. Beth didn't understand why even two years later, she couldn't even land a shot on him.
During a sparring session with the leader, whom she found is named Dreama, she realized that she was progressing quickly that she had a natural talent for combat. While Dream was stronger and better trained than her, which made sense because she was much older, but Beth's battle instincts were growing more and more every single day. She went from losing to Dreama in less than ten seconds, to lasting a minute, and then she actually managed to fight her to a stand still. Kenneth and Noah had a tendency to keep an eye on her to make sure she wasn't doing or being put through anything stupid or incredibly life threatening.
One morning, she walked out of her cabin in her usual jeans and a sweat shirt and went to the breakfast area. As she was walking, she finally noticed something off about almost everyone else at the camp. They were staring at her as if she was constantly doing something wrong, but she couldn't think of what she could possibly have been doing. She saw Noah and Kenneth talking in the line, so she walked over to them. She was surprised to see her friends out and about like this, seeing as neither tended to be at the line until after sunrise. Noah's eyes were always an easy way to tell where he was, as nothing else gave off a purple glow in the camp, even though during the day, he kept the glow down to a minimum as it was unnecessary. She walked over to them and watched as people moved to give her a spot with them.
"Hey, can I talk with you two?" She asked.
"We talk all the time, so I don't see why we shouldn't," Noah replied nonchalantly "What's up?"
"Why are people... so hesitant around me?"
"You are an Athenian Warrior," Kenneth replied "We assumed you would have realized it by now."
"Realized what?"
"That how I see them ain't exactly unique around here," Noah explained, again very nonchalantly "They're a group of savage warriors who will do whatever and hurt whoever they need to or feel like to get what they want."
"So what? Just because some are bullies means everyone sees us all as bullies?"
"You have a habit of not paying attention," Kenneth told her "It it not just one or two, or even a small minority, it is the vast majority of you."
"And I am one of the good ones?"
"Good in relativity to the rest," Kenneth replied "But even you will fall to peer pressure and temptation. You have grown into a better warrior, but turned into a worse person. Do not let them change you."
"They already have," Noah reminded him "Let's not say she's not changed and that she shouldn't, because she clearly has."
"We are not that bad, are we?"
"Yes."
"Yep."
Beth was a little bit disappointed, but she really didn't understand what everyone was talking about. Whenever she had hung out with them, all the Athenian Warriors had done is pull harmless pranks. All she could really remember was putting buckets over doors or trip wires around weapon stands. As far as she could tell they were just causing harmless trouble. Every once in a while they would have a match that... went a little overboard, but it was nothing too bad. Honestly, her biggest enemy was still Estevan, even after all these years. Every time they fight, she would win, but he would come a little closer to beating her. He really had no drive to win other than to just be the best, which was fine, but if he had no desire other than to win, then he would lose sight of what's needed in victory. Noah and Kenneth had sparred before and each time, Kenneth would come a little closer to actually landing a hit on his younger friend. Whenever she would ask about it, he explained that to gain victory over an opponent, more often than not, you would have to lose to them a few times.
"Guys, trust me. We are just a little bit more aggressive and efficient warriors than most of the rest of the camp."
"They've put multiple people in the medical ward this week," Noah reminded her "And one of them was a freaking teacher, sure it was a combat class teacher, but still! She ain't walking again this year."
"Alright, alright. I will make sure people do not get seriously hurt in any way, okay?"
"You got the influence to do that?" Noah asked as they got food, and Beth was given slightly more than the other two "I thought you were one of the newest and thus lowest ranked members of the warriors."
"Hey, I am working my way up the levels gradually," She said as they sat at their normal table "You two trust me, right?"
"I do, but I have my reservations about your choice in alliances."
"I am still your friend, you two. I will not let them hurt either of you."
"You do realize that Kenneth and I could literally take them all out before they even realize we're there, right?" Noah reminded her "My Bifrost abilities are growing, actually found one I may show you some day, and Kenneth's one of the fastest sons of Hermes. We can both beat them, just focus on the less powerful people in the camp." Beth sighed and nodded, then one of the Warriors walked over to them a few minutes later.
"Hey, Beth. We have a new assignment from Mother," He told her "Get your weapon and armor on. These two can wait." He looked at the two and Noah glared back at him while Kenneth decided not to engage "Got something to say?"
"Just trying to remember who you are..." Noah replied "Oh! I remember you now. You're one of the nameless Athenian Warriors who tried to fight me a week ago."
"Just shut the hell up, and you, get off your butt and get to the meeting point."
"Fine... see you two later," She said as she pushed herself up and looked back at them "Do not do anything stupid."
She walked away and Noah called after her "No promises!" He looked back at Kenneth and said "Armor plated jacket says she turns on them before we're twenty."
"I will take you up on that." They shook hands and watched as Beth walked off.
Beth followed the Warrior and asked "What are we doing this time?"
"Taking down a drug operation," He told her while she grabbed her weapons and armor "We leave for San Diego in an hour. Are you ready?"
"Yes."
"Good, get in the van."
Noah looked back and saw that the group she was leaving with had four people. He could make out a large one, seemingly about nineteen years old. He looked like a son of Ullr, the Norse God of Winter and Snow Sports. There was also a son of Váli, another of the lesser known Norse Gods, this time the God of Marksmanship. Kenneth could see another son of Ares, the God of War with them as well. As much as both hated to admit it, it was a really powerful looking team. With those abilities on their side, then they may actually get out of this with every person of their party intact. The two looked at each other one more time before Beth and the crew got in the van and Noah shrugged, then drank his orange juice.
