"What has he done to Nate!?! That monster!!!" Beth shrieked as they were watching the battle through Circe's fountain, to which the water can be used as a viewing point.
Just as Nate was beginning to enjoy Valhalla, his neck was snapped back into place. He was hit with a lightning bolt that shocked him back to life. He seized and shook violently as he was revived, but he had no idea who had done it.
Ares stepped back and let him wake up as he told him "I said I wouldn't leave until I saw all you could do. So get up!" Nate obliged with a groan as he struggled to get back up to his feet.
Nate picked his sword up, and it was lucky that he did, because it was the only reason his head wasn't cut off. When their swords collided, Nate fell to the ground from the force of the strike. He got back up, panting for breath, and stabbed Ares twice in the chest. He barely seemed to notice the attacks and grabbed Nate by the throat. He lifted the Demigod up and swung his sword at his head, but Nate swung his sword into Ares' with all his might. The clash of the blades created sparks that flew into both of their eyes. Ares let him go and Nate landed on his feet easily. With his enemy distracted, Nate swung at his head, but the armor on his arms blocked the attack. He swung his sword down at Nate, but he rolled away from the attack. Before Ares could get his sword out of the ground, Nate stepped on the blade to make it temporarily unusable.
"Fine," Ares said as he let go of his sword and cracked his knuckles "I only need these."
He swung a hook punch at Nate, but he rolled underneath the attack. The younger divine being didn't even have time to get up before Ares heel kicked him in the side of the head. Nate went flying and his head slammed into a tree. He groaned as he held his head, and then proceeded to hit Ares with another tree. This time, it was a much thinner tree, so it didn't do much damage. Ares turned around and calmly relocated his arm before grabbing Nate by the face again. He slammed the back of his head to the ground, picked him back up, and threw him into the trees once more. Before he could wake up, Ares grabbed him by the throat, and lifted him up into the air.
"One of us will die today!" Ares told him while squeezing his neck until it would break and drop his head from his body.
Nate finally regained consciousness and punched Ares in the eye with his Bifrost fist. He dropped Nate to the ground and Heimdallr's son put his palm to Ares' chest. He created a Bifrost shockwave and knocked the God of War backwards.
"Then I know it won't be me!" Nate retorted as they both grabbed their weapons again.
Nate hook punched Ares in the jaw, then used the momentum to spin around, and uppercut him in the chest. Ares was sent flying up and slammed into the roof of the church. He glared down at Nate and leapt down at him, preparing to cut his head off. When Nate saw this, he used all his might, and their blades clashed again. A huge shockwave was created that blew all the leaves off the trees and anything not inside the church or firmly connected to the ground through the air. Ares landed and pushed Nate back, only to then punch him in the face.
"Come on!" The Olympian yelled as their blades clashed again "That it!?" They swung at one another once again, but all their blades connected with was the other weapon "Fight me!"
"Oh, shut up!"
They both lit their blades aflame, Ares with his crimson fire and Nate with his Bifrost. Their blades collided and Nate pushed them into the ground. Somehow this caused a massive explosion that threw them both away. Ares landed on his side in front of what was left of the church while Nate landed on his feet. Both were breathing heavily and Nate walked toward Ares' massive sword, the blade of which was as tall as Beth was, let alone the hilt.
Nate kicked the weapon over to Ares and told him quite bluntly "Pick it up." He looked down at the sword for a moment and then back up to the Demigod, who just stood there, waiting for his next move.
"You truly don't know who I am, do you?" Ares asked as he reached for his sword and got back up to his knees "You clearly don't have a clue what I've done."
"Of course I do!" Nate yelled at him, with such force and anger it made even the mighty God of War shut up "But that's the point here."
"We are... Destroyers..." Ares told Nate as he struggled to even lift his sword "Our God given reason is for death and destruction. We can not change."
"Enough..." Nate finally said, having been through enough battles and finally willing to end one himself "Ares, just stop." He dropped his sword to the ground, letting it clatter "If you want the respect Zeus promised you, then you've got to be better. This isn't the way." His gaze never left Ares' eyes once, not even when he had brought his sword up... but then it lowered as the Demigod's words sunk into the God's head "So... how did you shock me back?" Nate's tone was still the same, except in the resoluteness, there was also curiosity.
"Father gave me-"
"Why is he still breathing?" They both looked to where the voice came from and found Zeus standing there "Why are you having a dialogue with him?" Something about him was off and Nate had a thought, why would Zeus want him dead?
"Father, he-"
"Shut up. Why are you talking? I never told you to!" Everything about this conversation was confusing Nate, he had met Zeus twice before at the Demigod Communions and he was never like this, mainly because he was at the level of power that let him be more nonchalant about most things "You do as I told you! I think, you kill! That was the entire concept of this!" Something about that clicked in Nate's head... think?
"You've never acted this way, father... what's going on?" Ares asked.
"What did you...? Are you questioning me?" Zeus asked "Maybe you are also too dumb to understand this thing called planning. Just pick up your damned sword and kill who I tell you to!" Nate finally understood who this was, but for some reason, the words wouldn't come out... his body was too exhausted from the intense battle to even tell Ares, but he was about to find out for himself.
Zeus watched as Ares dropped his sword and bluntly rejected his orders with a simple "No." The King of Olympus' eyes changed color as he looked up and he stabbed Ares through the chest!
Nate flinched and yelled "Ares, no!!!" Something he had never actually expected to yell out in the way he had.
The God of War fell to his knees as Zeus transformed back into Athena, the person who had really sent him after Nate. He didn't even want to look Athena in the eyes as she tried to look into his. In truth, she hadn't wanted any of this to go the way it had, her plan would've been fool proof had she sent Cratus or Heracles. No, she had to trust her idiot brother with literally anything. Even the thing he was good at, he had a spotty track record with. She ripped the spear out of his chest and looked over at Nate. The younger of the two were about to fight when Athena turned to look in the direction of several footsteps coming toward them. When she turned, she found Beth, Eden, Mikayla, and Kenneth standing ready to fight.
"Fine," Athena groaned "With whatever you are all doing, there is no way you will be able to stop my plan." She turned into an owl again and flew away.
"So... how'd it go?"
"I died."
"Yeah, we saw."
"Then why'd you ask!?"
"Both of you, stop it. We need to get to the Yggdrasil as fast as possible," Eden sighed as she held out the seed and entry stone to the group "Nate, do you know where the tree is?" He nodded and they began to follow him to their next destination.
