Tour the states

The group rode on Gulltoppr's back all throughout the rest of the day. They had brought enough snacks to last them about a day and a half, but they knew they would have to stop to grab more food at some point. The fight had left them all more exhausted than any of them had been expecting. It had taken a while and everyone had fought off at least ten assailants using varying degrees of power. Being Demigods, using their abilities too often always tended to sap all the energy out of them.
While it wasn't necessary for Nate to steer Gulltoppr as they were going in a straight line, he still tried to stay as awake as possible. Eden had fallen asleep on top of Kenneth and Mikayla slumped over on Marc. Hayden had to hold onto Beth so she didn't fall off the massive horned lion. They rode through Las Vegas and through the rest of Nevada. It took a few hours to pass through the state and they came across Salt Lake City.
"Hey, guys!" Nate called back as he elbowed Beth in the stomach to wake her up "Wanna look around a bit?"
"Mm? Why? Should we not just go straight to D.C.?" Beth groaned.
"We're running low on snacks so we're gonna need to take a break soon anyway," Noan told her "Why not just take a break here and go get some while looking around?"
"Are we gonna stop every time we run low on food?" Mikayla groaned.
"Well, unless you would like to eat Gulltoppr, then yes," Kenneth replied.
"I wouldn't mind eating the lion," Hayden groaned as he jumped off their mount.
Said lion growled at him and Nate told Hayden "I'm gonna forget you said that... for your sake."
"Right, like you could actually kill me," Hayden retorted with a roll of his eyes.
"Don't forget how easily I beat you last time," Nate countered "Took one blow."
"I wasn't thinking straight," Hayden told him "If I was-"
"Then like Beth, you wouldn't be able to touch me," Nate told him "Thinking while fighting me as anything other than a true God is the worst way of going about it."
"Both of you, stop it," Eden groaned as she rolled down off of Gulltoppr "I would rather not watch you two tear each other to pieces." She pushed herself up off of the road and cracked her back while stretching her arms over her head "I agree with Nate. We should not just be on a one track mind, it will just wear us down." The Demigods all waited until they woke up fully, then they split up into groups, Nate went with Kenneth who was his best friend, Beth went with Hayden, Eden opted to look around with Mikayla, and Marc went out on his own.
Nate and Kenneth went into a store and used some of the money Kenneth had won to buy snacks, bags, and wallets for each of them. Nate had left Gulltoppr with a Bifrost ball to play with and most people just tried to avoid the large lion. A few dogs came up to the large feline and smelled him, but he just looked back at them without any intention to attack. Once they left, he went back to gnawing on the ball, trying to break it open. Marc had taken his share of money and went straight to a candy store. He spent half of his money on a bunch of candy, then went to another snack shop. Mikayla and Eden went to go get everyone new clothes just so that they wouldn't feel all gross when meeting up with Athena at the end of the week. They went into three or four stores so they could find clothes that everyone would like. Beth and Hayden just went out and did some sight seeing as they both knew this could very well be their only chance.
The group recommended after about half an hour and Beth asked "Is everyone good to go?"
"Yep."
"Mhm."
"Hamburger!"
"What Marc said."
"I'm down."
"Alright, let's get going," Hayden told them and they all climbed back up onto Gulltoppr.
"Alright, buddy. We're in the end game now," Nate sighed as he spoke to Gulltoppr "Let's end this." He spurred Gulltoppr's reins to get him to run as fast as possible.
They ran through the rest of the state in about fifteen minutes, but that burst of speed was all Gulltoppr had in him. Once they reached the border between Utah and Colorado, Gulltoppr just began walking at a normal pace. Nate and Kenneth, who were used to high speeds weren't too bothered by the rate that Gulltoppr were going. The rest though were absolutely shocked that the massive beast could move at such speeds. Hayden had almost fallen off and Marc had to hold him down so he didn't go flying off. Sure, Marc and Hayden, along with Kenneth could get to Washington D.C. in an instant, but they had all agreed not to use those powers. It was essentially a team building exercise which none of them had verbally agreed to, but clearly, they had all just gone along with it.
"Okay, we're not out of stuff yet, and truth be told we don't really need to stop right now," Hayden said while they marched through the cities "Do you guys just want to keep going?"
"I say yes," Nate replied while keeping himself awake by creating Bifrost sparks in his own face.
"I agree, we're... we're making good time," Eden replied while yawning and leaning over on Mikayla again.
"Then I suppose we should just keep going until we run out of food," Kenneth decided.
"Right, come on, Gulltoppr."
They kept riding through the day and at night they just camped out in an area where no one was around again. When the sun rose, they continued riding, but instead of going straight into Kansas, they took a turn and went down into Oklahoma. Gulltoppr didn't even realize he had taken them off course, so they just took another random turn. The next border they came across was the one from Oklahoma to Arkansas.
"Uh... who's got the map?" Nate asked as he stopped Gulltoppr.
"Me," Marc replied as he looked through the bag "Why?"
"I feel like we made a wrong turn."
"How do you make a wrong turn-"
Mikayla was cut off when Marc said "Ah, yeah. We turned into Oklahoma instead of Kansas."
"Wait, but aren't we right in front of Kansas?" Mikayla asked.
"Uh... nope. This is Arkansas."
"Idiots," Beth grumbled, "Way to go! First place for 'best person to get us lost!'"
"Shut up." Nate turned and smacked her arm "We can just make our way through this new state. Come on, let's go."
"Yeah well last I checked you don't have as big a target on your back as I do!"
"I know, why do you think I'm so relaxed right now?" Nate replied without looking back.
"It's not that I'm not relaxed! It's more like..." She muttered sadly, "I'm in pain..."
"Oh I know what this is," Mikalya and Eden stated.
"Yeah, she fucking fought Aiden one on one. That's gonna hurt," Nate reminded them.
"Nate!" Mikalya yelled, "Not that pain. Yes she might be in pain cause of that but nobody says they're in pain sadly because of that."
"She's gotta fight and possibly kill her mother, yeah. I get it," Nate told Mikayla "Thing is... Athena was the one who started this whole thing. Had she not been a self righteous obsessive narcissist who thinks just because she's a god, she gets to dominate her daughter's life, we wouldn't be in this fucking mess."
"At least one person is not blaming me," Beth sighed, not noticing they had been moving throughout the entire "Wait, where are we?"
"Uh... looks like a school," Nate replied while they rode past a highschool with a tour group.
"This right here is where the brave Little Rock Nine were escorted by personal soldier guards into the school!" The leader told the tour group as they rode past "This is a site of largely unknown bravery and... uh..." He trailed off as he saw Gulltoppr coming down the road "And... and uh..." the group was confused until they heard massive footsteps coming down the street.
They all turned to watch as Gulltoppr carried Nate, Marc, Kenneth, Beth, Eden, Mikayla, and Hayden through the town. The tour group all stared in bewilderment at them, which got on Nate's nerves. Instead of attacking them through sheer force, he instead decided to flip them off. This barely got any kind reaction out of them, but Nate was satisfied with himself. He took hold of Gulltoppr's reins again and smiled smugly to himself as they rode past and the group... tried to continue their lesson.
The group continued to ride until they came across a hotel and decided to stay the night there. It was nothing too luxurious, but they were tired, and did not feel like sleeping on the ground again. As Nate gave Gulltoppr a bed behind the hotel, he saw a long bus pulling up to the entrance. He didn't really care as it didn't concern him, so he just walked out to the entrance as well. As people began to trickle out of the bus, he realized he recognized them. It was the tour group again and Nate locked eyes with the leader for a moment. He grinned and winked at him, then walked into the hotel with the tour leader having been left completely speechless. The night was very uneventful and the group slept peacefully. Nate had fallen asleep reading a bible on the couch while Marc and Kenneth took their room's beds. Eden was snuggled up to Mikayla in their room and Beth was in the same position with Hayden.
