Beth woke up with three people in black hoodies staring down at her on the sixth morning. She got up and swung a kick at one of them, but the person blocked easily. Another hit her in the back of the head, and the third put a bag over her head. They punched her in the stomach and forced her out of the door... by slamming her head through it. They held her arms behind her back and dragged her through the woods and, from what she could faintly hear past the lake. They opened a door and pushed her in, then the door was slammed behind her.
"Okay, where am I?" She yelled while ripping the bag off of her head "Uh... what is going on?" She looked around and saw that she was in a cabin... seemingly all alone "So, they think my fear is... loneliness?" She looked around, not wanting to move in case the place was booby trapped "Seriously, what is this?"
"This is the penultimate part of your initiation," The leader said as she walked in behind Beth "I can tell you would rather not move in case we had rigged this place... and you would be correct." Beth was about to turn around, but the leader grabbed her by the back of the neck, making sure she couldn't move her head "No, no, no, you need to stay right there." Beth nodded and the leader walked to the other end of the cabin.
A trap door that seemed to be only hidden up by nothing but a thin wooden door. It was torn apart by ropes she could hear something scuddling underneath the floor. She knew both Noah and Mikayla had mentioned something to her, but for some reason, she couldn't remember any of what they had said. Maybe it was because of the whole experience here being too much to fully take in, but it could also be from the shots she's taken in the past two days.
"Uh... what is that?" She asked as she walked toward the hole in the ground.
"That... is what you will do to show us that you are not afraid to do what is necessary to get the job done. The last girl to be put to this specific test could not bear it," The leader said casually as she walked over behind Beth again.
"Wait... what do you me-"
"Enjoying your day."
"Wait, you did not answer me." She turned around, but the leader simply kicked her in the stomach, which knocked her into the pit filled with spiders "Hey! Let me out of here!"
"We will come find you in twenty four hours." The leader grabbed another plank of wood "You may feel the warmth of the sun, perhaps that may be a good way to tell how much time has passed." Before Beth could respond, the leader placed the plank in the ground and left, isolating Beth with nothing but the spiders crawling all over her to keep her company.
She thrashed around and tried to climb out of the pit, but it didn't do anything but drive her even deeper down. She could barely breathe underneath all the spiders, but she didn't want to open her mouth for a breath. The moment she did that, she knew that spiders were going to crawl into her mouth. She barely even wanted to open her eyes because she didn't need any of their disgusting legs poking her directly in the eyeball. She had no idea how long she had been in there, but she heard the door open. She heard multiple sets of footsteps and was about to call out, when she remembered what would happen if she opened her mouth. Now that she was here, she remembered exactly what Noah and Mikayla had been telling her. She could understand why people couldn't survive this if it was their greatest fear. Normal ten year olds never worried about being thrown in a pit of spiders or fighting for their lives in an ultra realistic larp version of capture the flag. They worried about how popular they were in school or what test or homework they would have next.
'What am I going to do? There is absolutely no way it has even been an hour yet,' Beth thought while continuing to do her best to survive 'Jeez, this is a nightmare... which makes total sense seeing as this is the fear test. I really hope this ends soon... Gods, if Athena is my mother then please just let this end sooner than I think.'
After an unknowable amount of time, the hatch above her was finally opened. She felt a bunch of arms reach into the pit of spiders and a few finally grabbed her. They roughly ripped her out of the pit and threw her down onto the wooden floor. She opened her mouth and eyes for the first time in apparently an entire day. She quickly sat up and threw whatever spiders were left on her back into the pit.
"I am very impressed," The leader said to her "I had expected to throw another pretty little body in the lake outside. Well then, go back to your cabin, get sleep, and tomorrow, you either become one of us, or become one with the water." They all left and shot the torches lining the walls out with a crossbow.
"Okay... alright..." Beth mumbled to herself, trying to calm herself down and process what had just happened. "It's just one more day, you can do this." She made her way back to the main camp and prayed she didn't run into anyone she didn't want to, and really, there weren't many people she would be happy to see at the moment "Please... just let me get back in my house and... ah... poo." She saw someone standing outside her door, but it wasn't Noah like she would've expected "Kenneth?"
"Mhm," He replied while looking up at her "Noah told me what day it was so I figured I would check to see if you made it out okay."
"Look, I am fine, Kenneth. I was taken, went in, got out, and I am back to the cabin," She told him, but even though he couldn't read minds like Noah could, he could tell she was shaken up "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Because you are clearly completely shaken up by this whole thing. This whole week has been absolutely awful for you, most of the warriors joined when they were quite a few years older than you. I do not want to see you die... it has been a very long time since someone made an impression on me like you."
"What about that girl I saw you with at the party?"
"Eden is not your concern," Kenneth sighed "Are you going into the house?"
"Yes, I am."
"Alright... fine. Just be warned, the final day of the test in an event for the camp, almost everyone will be there." He got off of her door and walked past her "Do not die." She nodded and walked into her house, ready for this entire hellish week to be over. The Next Morning
Beth woke up and groaned, the pain from the past few days had made it hard to sleep and was still making it hard to move. She sat up in bed and stretched, feeling all of the sore and cut areas on her body. She could hear her entire body pop and crack as she got up out of bed. Beth walked out of the house and was instantly grabbed again and dragged behind the Athena street. They dragged her to some kind of large wheel with cuffs on it and a bunch of phrases along its rim. She could read Water Boarding, Whipping, Walled Up, and there were others she couldn't quite make out. As she was pulled toward it, she could see all of the Athenian Warriors standing around the wheel. They pulled her up onto a stool and locked her wrists, waist, and ankles down onto the wheel.
The leader walked up in front of her and said "Okay, this is the first part of your last day of initiation. Endure this, and you will be one of us." Beth nodded "Now... let us see what your final test will be." They pulled a lever and Beth began to spin around and around on the wheel, so many times to the point where Beth was about to throw up, but she kept it down to not look weak "Well well, someone was a little eager with that level, were they not?" They watched as she spun around and around, then the tip of the wheel landed on Cucking Stool "Well, it has been a very long time since we've used that little contraption." They unlocked all of the cuffs and sent Beth tumbling down to the ground "Get her up and take her to the stool. I am going to round up any who wish to watch."
They pulled Beth off the ground and led her down to the lake again, but this time she wasn't blinded by a bag. She had no idea what caused them to stop, but whatever the reason, she figured part two was coming very shortly. Before they left the main camp, Beth could see the leader going around to everyone at the camp and telling them... from what she could gather, to meet wherever they were taking her. She hadn't heard where they were actually going and frankly, she didn't exactly care anymore. All she wanted was to get this week over with, so she would deal with whatever was to come. She could see a strange, clearly hastily constructed, platform with a chair attached to the end of... some kind of seesaw. The closer they got to the platform and the leader came up behind them with a group of a few dozen campers, two or three Valkyrie, two of the Gorgons and one Mountain Giant.
"Alright, in the chair, now," The warrior to Beth's right said.
She looked back at the warrior and nodded, walking up to the chair, and sitting down in it. Three warriors approached her with ropes and a fourth held her down to the chair. Beth could only watch helplessly as she was tied to the chair to the point that she could barley feel... well any part of her body. The ropes were so tight, they were cutting off a lot of her circulation. She took a look at everyone who was in attendance, she saw Kenneth and everyone else she had met... except for Noah. She hadn't really expected to see him, but for some reason she was more than a little upset that he wasn't there.
"Do it."
Before Beth could ponder what it meant, the seesaw gave way and she was dunked into the water. This time, since the water was calm, she could easily hold her breath underneath it. She figured that if this was all, then she could make it out of this easily. After a minute and a half of her being under water, she was pulled back out. Once out, she took a deep breath in, but before she could do anything else, she was swung down into the water again. This went on for hours until they started leaving her under for a lot longer. She went from being under for a minute and a half at sunrise, to the last one, she was held under the water for six whole minutes. That last one nearly killed her, as the most she could hold her breath for at a single time was a little over five minutes. When they pulled her up the last time as the moon fell behind the mountains, the torture finally ended. While she coughed and hurled mouthfuls of water and whatever else was in the lake, she was untied, and left on the platform while the warriors, seeing as they were the only ones left, walked off.
"I did it..." Beth mumbled to herself horsley "I... I actually did it." She was about to pass out when she heard someone walking up to her "What? Who is there?" The person walked up to her quietly and grabbed her by the ankle "Hey! I passed the test! What are you doing?" The person dragged her across the shore of the lake and up through the forest "Hey... I asked you a question..." Beth tried to kick whoever this was, but they just slapped her leg away without looking "Wait... Noah?" She finally figured it out, and yet he still refused to speak for some reason "Noah...? Are you okay...?" He dragged her back to the camp and kicked her door open, then swung her down onto her bed, and slammed the door behind himself "Hm..."
