The next morning, they left on Gulltoppr after putting Tracey's body inside, and burning it. It was the way the Norse Deities would put their deceased to rest and they left it to burn. A little while after they had left, Hermes came to collect his son's mother's body. When he saw the corpse, he sighed, having been quite fond of this woman. He had used to visit her every so often and even transport her personally to the Demigod Communions. He brought her body down to Hades and the two Gods decided to let her go to Elysium for her service to the Gods and very recently, housing Demigods without any problem.
"So, how're we gonna go about...you know, killing Athena?" Mikayla asked.
"Being the one who killed Bia, I'd have expected you to know," Nate replied "The stories always called them completely invulnerable, but that's clearly not true."
"Yeah... and that would mean that not even Zeus would be immortal," Eden added "Oh... wait. Athena wanted to take over Olympus right?"
"Uhuh," Mikayla replied.
"What if she intends on killing her father to take his throne."
"Then we need to get reinforcements," Beth decided "Nate, we need Gulltoppr's full speed." He nodded and pushed his heel into Gulltoppr's neck, which was the beast's signal to move.
Nate and Gulltoppr had some sort of psychic connection as without saying anything, the lion knew exactly where to go. They got back to California within minutes and when they found the forest, Gulltoppr slowed back down. They all knew the forest they had grown up in so well that they could simply walk Gulltoppr through it without issue. The beast also knew the scent of the camp, so he could find it as well... but for some reason he seemed confused. He would look around while following the scent as if it was distorted. The forest felt very strange as well, but none of them could figure out why. It felt like so much of the life that had resided there had been snuffed out... even the trees. As they rode through the forest, the trees slowly got darker and darker. By the time they could see the camp the trees were pitch black... and the camp looked completely destroyed.
"Gulltoppr, Haven!" Nate told his steed, to which the lion ran into the camp.
When they got to the sign, they saw it was charred, the wood almost completely turned to ash. They got off of Gulltoppr and began to walk around through... what was left of their home. Beth could've sworn she had seen something like this before, but for the life of her, she couldn't figure out where. The Haven had never been destroyed like this in the past, so how could she have seen this before. Nate's glowing eyes gave her another flashback, but once more, she couldn't remember where she had seen something like this. As she walked through the streets, she felt something crunch under her foot. When she looked down, she found... a rare sight in the Haven, a child of Heimdallr. When she saw the still glowing eyes, the entire memory came back to her. The night she had been abducted by the Athenian Warriors, hallucinating a destroyed Haven, seeing Nate sleeping on his bed as a skeleton with glowing eye sockets. She fell to her knees and threw up, to which Eden and Kenneth rushed to her aid, but Nate just looked confused.
"What's she vomiting about?" Nate asked.
"I don't know... why don't you care!?" Eden exclaimed.
"She'll be fine. The corpses will not. I'm also curious why no one's come to claim the dead yet." Nate turned and he walked with Mikayla around the camp some more.
"What is wrong with him?" Kenneth asked "His best friend throws up and he just walks away?"
"He... he does not understand emotion," Beth explained as she got up and they continued looking through the Haven.
As Nate was walking around, every once in a while while carelessly stepping on a body, a flash of a vision would play in his mind. For a while he barely noticed and just continued walking, but after the fourth, what was happening began to dawn on him. He looked around for a body he could recognize... and sighed as he found one. He walked over toward Hayden's bloody, beaten, and battered body and knelt down beside it. He took a deep breath in, closed his eyes, and put his palm on his old rival's arm. He could see him fighting and from the looks of it, the battle was fierce. The vision only lasted a few seconds, but from what he could tell, the people in the Haven didn't go down without a fight. There were two things he couldn't figure out, though. The first was how he had managed to obtain this new ability out of thin air, and the second was who did this. Everyone in the camp were clearly Demigods, but why would they destroy their own home. Nate decided to be a bit of a detective and looked for more bodies that were less damaged so the visions may last longer. After about fifteen minutes, he figured out everything that had happened.
"Guys! Get over here! I think I know what happened," Nate called to his friends, which prompted them to rush over "Now, a lot of it's the same old crap, but lemme show you the important parts."
A morning less than a week prior, the alarm bell had rung early in the morning. In the twilight hours of the morning, a lot of the people in the Haven were groggy and a little more than slightly annoyed at being woken up so early. When they saw a massive army of Athenian Warriors a few feet away from their home though, most were woken up. Sure, groups of them had attacked at once every now and then, but it looked like this was all of them. At their head was Athena and it was clear she was in no mood to exchange pleasantries. Inhabitants of the Haven were still funneling out of their houses and Athenian Warriors were prepping their weapons. The armies charged toward each other and the chaos started almost instantly.
An Athenian Warrior stabbed at a Haven Warrior, but she blocked the attack. The Haven Warrior stabbed back at him and knocked him away. Another Haven Warrior slid behind an Athenian Warrior and stabbed him through the back. The two armies continued to battle, but the Athenian Warriors' technology was too advanced. Roman, being a son of Tyr, led a battalion against a tank to flip it over. Hayden was at the head of the charge with Roman and used his scythe to send bursts of death at his enemies. As the rest of the Athenian Warriors shot the ground troops, Aiden decided to shoot down some of the flying Haven Warriors.
"So, Athena attacked our home," Eden sighed while sitting down on a corpse next to her friends.
"Mhm," Nate replied "And it just goes on and on like that for a little while. Most of it's pretty boring, but there are some likely important parts."
"Like...?" Mikayla asked.
"Shut up and I'll show you."
In the chaos, Hayden came across Aiden near the river that was now filled with bodies and he told him "Get out! Take your damn cult with you."
"We didn't know each other all that well, Hayden," Aiden said "But I knew you well enough... so, I gotta ask. Why leave your girlfriend?"
"She can handle herself, she's with the others. I needed to come back here... to protect my home from you."
"Yeah? And how'd that work out for ya?" Aiden retorted with a chuckle "You couldn't even stop us from setting fire to the place."
Hayden snarled and told Aiden "It's not in your best interest to toy with me. Beth's already kicked your ass once before and I'm on her level."
"My range and speed are still better than yours," Aiden reminded him.
"Yeah, that may be true... but I'm wearing armor," Hayden informed him while unbuttoning his shirt to show the chest plate.
"Heh... alright, let's do this, then." Hayden's scythe had been stabbed into another warrior next to him and when he reached for it, Aiden shot him, knocking him down to the ground "Guess the armor didn't help a whole lot. What're you gonna do now?"
"Make you leave my home!" Hayden yelled as he shot a cloud of death at Aiden.
Ullr's son rolled out of the way and then launched himself at Hades'. He tackled him down into the river and the current dragged them for a few seconds before spitting them out at the lake. They both clawed their way back to the wet shore of the beach, then Aiden punched Hayden across the jaw. They both fell down onto their stomachs and Aiden got back up. He swung his leg into the bridge of Hayden's nose, but pulled back, and swung his foot across his face, which knocked him back down. Aiden grabbed him by the back of the neck, picked him up, and swung a punch across his jaw again. He dropped Hayden to the ground bent down to pick up a massive branch on the ground next to them. He hoisted the piece of wood over his shoulder and stepped on Hayden's chest so he couldn't move. He swung the branch down at him, but Hayden grabbed the wood, letting his hands absorb the attack. He threw the stick away, then grabbed Aiden's leg, and threw him to the ground. Both were breathing heavily, but Aiden had some sort of upgrades to make his stamina nearly endless. He got back up and kicked Hayden in the side. He fell onto his back and Aiden knelt down on his chest while putting a pistol to his chest.
"Yeah, this isn't the first time I've beaten you like this," Aiden told Hayden "But it's probably gonna be the last time." He was about to pull the trigger when they were both distracted by an explosion in the distance, which gave Hayden an opening.
He turned and knocked Aiden's gun into the water, then spun around as he got up. He knelt down and punched him in the stomach, then got up, and swept him off of his feet. Aiden pulled out yet another pistol, but Hayden grabbed it out of his hand. He kicked Aiden back down and the son of Ullr tried to use his wrist mounted flamethrower to surprise Hayden. It didn't work and Hades' son simply stomped on his wrist to keep it down and the ground around them began to be set ablaze. He got on top of Aiden again and punched him a few times before a spear tore its way through his chest.
"No!" Beth yelled, tears forming fast.
"We already knew that's how he went down. Focus, girl!" Nate snapped "We're almost done... just gotta watch Roman drown."
"Wait, what?"
"Just watch."
They watched as Roman was holding off hordes of Athenian Warriors, but as the numbers in the clamp were thinning, he was one of the last few left. His spear and shield were being worn down bit by bit and his armor was cracking and crumbling around him. After the fiftieth Athenian Warrior, his spear snapped in half and he looked down at the two ends. He decided to use them as much as possible, one end being used as a form of jagged edged escrima whereas the other was used as a dagger. He was hit in the side of the knee by a club, which knocked him down. He growled, looked up, and stabbed the warrior through the throat. She fell to the ground and his jagged escrima was stuck in her. All he had to defend himself now was the destroyed spear as his shield had given out. It didn't take long for him to be dragged over to the lake where Athena was, Hayden still impaled on her spear. She looked back and stabbed her spear into the ground with Hayden's body hanging like a trophy. They tossed Roman to Athena and she dragged him by his neck to the lake. He didn't even have the strength to resist as she shoved his head down into the water.
"No, I can not watch this anymore," Eden said as she shook herself out of the vision.
"I... guess that's why we never found his body," Mikayla said as they all came back to the present time.
"So... Now what? We have no more places to go. Tracey's house is gone, so is this, both burned to the ground," Eden asked as they looked around at the burnt remains of what was once their home.
They all sat in silence for a moment before Beth said "Hm... I think I may have a plan." They all looked up at her "The Olympians are vain, but they love a challenge as much as anyone, right?"
"Yeah?" Nate replied.
"What if we go to Mount Olympus and challenge someone to get the blood of Medusa? By now they must have enough to restore this entire place."
"Good plan, but here's a question. You got a way to and from Olympus?" Noaj asked.
"I think we do," Beth replied "There is an opening to Hades in... Hollywood... what?" Something white and cold... and wet began to fall on them.
"Wait, what?" Everyone looked up.
"Why is it snowing? It's the middle of fucking August!" Nate yelled "You know what? You guys can go down to The Underworld. I'm staying back here until you're all back." They nodded and got on Gulltoppr, Nate not needing him around since he was just going to be spending his time at the ruins.
