Asgard

As the group climbed the Bifrost, they were able to see all of the Nine Realms... well except for Helheim. Every realm seemed to be experiencing Fimbulvetr differently. Of course Midgard was experiencing constant heavy snowfall, which made it much more difficult to survive. A large industrialized realm, which again were much more like continents than real realms, was working seemingly overtime, pumping smoke from their forges into their own atmosphere.
"That one's Svartlfheim," Nate explained as he saw Beth looking over at it "Whenever we're about to head back, we should stop by there for better armor or weapons."
Eden was looking at another forested realm with strange plants aplenty. She could see people roaming around and it was clear life was everywhere in that realm. However, the massive plants seemed to be dangerously mutating and rotting. Some foliage seemed almost alive and attacked animals and people. The plants that rotted melted into acidic puddles when they met the ground.
"Vanaheim, realm of magic," Nate told Eden "Hopefully we won't have to go there. Every trying to kill you, even plants? Might as well go to Australia."
"Hah!"
"Shut up."
"Boys, quiet," Eden told Kenneth and Nate.
"Nate, what's that realm?"
He walked over to where his friend was looking and saw Alfheim, realm of the Elves. It was normally a very peaceful place, covered in beautiful foliage, soft warm beaches, and crystal clear waters. The Light Elves were always very welcoming people who would show newcomers around. It was usually a paradise in the realms... but now it was different. Even from miles away, they could see constant combat. Warriors completely covered in armor attacked Light Elves, as if wanting control over the realm.
"Somewhere, we really don't need to go right now," Nate told her "Seems the Elves are having some kind of war. Weird, maybe Fimbulvetr heightened aggression in Alfheim's inhabitants."
"What about Niflheim and Muspelheim? Or Jotunheim?"
"Dangerous and not even kind of worth our time worrying about," Nate told Eden "If we have to go there at some point, we will, but only if we absolutely have to." Just as he finished that sentence, they stood at the foot of Asgard's border, where the Realm Travel Gateway lay... outside of the massive wall "Well, let's get climbing."
Everyone had their own way of getting up to the top and as such, traveled by themselves. Kenneth had the easiest way of getting up and just ran up the side of the wall. Because it was made of rocks and hadn't been smoothed out, he could keep his foothold as he ran up the completely vertical space. Mikayla just used a spell to poof up and appeared right after Kenneth. Eden used any roots and plants in the ground to lift herself up. She made a platform for herself and boosted herself up to the top of the wall. Nate had given the spare sword to Beth and she decided to use that and her spear to scale the wall. Of course, it would take a long time, so Nate had asked if she wanted to ride on Gulltoppr with him. She said no and to mock her, he rode side by side with her the entire time. About twenty minutes later, she finally made it up and rolled onto her back. Her arms felt completely dead, she was surprised they hadn't fallen off.
Nate just hopped off Gulltoppr and said "Well, everyone. Welcome to..." The state of the most powerful realm shocked everyone who saw it "As... Asgard." The place was... not exactly in ruin, but not what any had expected "What the Hel happened? Come on, let's go down and get a better look."
There was a lift a few feet away from them and they took it down to the realm. Asgard itself was a very beautiful city, but the carnage that had occurred was clearly fresh. Asgardian warriors and several Midgardians who had earned their way into the realm could be seen being moved to their funeral boats. Blood was being cleaned off of walls and streets as were arrows and other weapons. Even Gulltoppr seemed a little uneasy, seeing what used to be his home be tainted like this. Sure, Asgardians and especially Aesir Gods, no matter how minor, lived mostly for combat, or as Odin would say, dying is what they lived for. Still, even those who lived in the mighty realm seemed shaken by the event. When they got down to the ground, many were suspicious of the newcomers until they saw Gulltoppr with them. He was a trusted ally to the Aesir, and had been for almost four and a half thousand years. If he trusted them, then there was no way they could mean any harm. Out of reflex, the group all kept their weapons in their hands just to make sure they would be ready if they were attacked, but it never happened.
"My mother attacked the realms?" Beth asked as they walked through the city.
"No... she went after Asgard specifically," Kenneth corrected her "I doubt she would go after the other realms. They are too dangerous because of Baldr, who I am willing to bet she had a hand in ending as well."
They continued through the city, until they finally came across the body of a God. They found Loki lying with Hofund, Heimdallr's mighty sword, stabbed through their chest. They stood around them for a moment before seeing Heimdallr be wheeled away on another funeral wagon.
"Hey! Hey, hey, hey! Wait!" Nate rushed over "Can I just see him real quick?" The people backed off, having been through too much lately, and just wanting to go home that night "Thank you." He looked down at his father, both sad and confused about his death. "Doesn't look like Loki... so let's just see if this works." He put his hand to his father's eyes, hoping that at least his last memories could be visible, skewed or corrupted like a program they may be.
During the battle, Tyr... who had both of his hands for some reason, was trying to protect his wife Zisa, the Goddess of Autumn Harvest. When he was about to get to her, everything stopped and Athena walked through the frozen people. She walked around the battle and shook her head at Tyr, the God who had refused her offer of overthrowing Zeus with Asgard's help.
"Well, I tried to give you a chance. Perhaps you would have survived Ragnarök with my help," She sighed as she took a bow and an arrow from one of her warriors "But now, it seems your end is coming in the same way Ragnarök would have given it to you. Everyone you know and love dies, and you can do nothing to stop it-"
"Lying, lying, lying. Is that all you ever do?" A voice sighed.
"What?" Athena turned and saw Heimdallr walking toward her, even though everyone else was still frozen, even Thor's lightning.
"What has the world come to when Gods can't even trust each other's word?" He was much more coherent than he had been the last time he had seen his son, seemingly using all of his power to stay in his own right mind.
"How are you-?" Before she could even raise her weapon, Heimdallr slapped it out of Athena's hands.
"Nate and I are very similar in power, as I'm sure you've noticed," Heimdallr told her as he circled around her, his World Lag clearly beginning to fail, as well as her Quick Thought "But while I've seen the end of this day and know my legend ends here, his will out grow even yours... " She growled and he watched as everyone began to move once again "Give me a fight worthy of two Gods like us, wouldn't you?" Before she could answer, he uppercut her in the chin which sent her flying... and then was shot down from behind by several crossbowmen "Oh... damn you..." He fell to his knees, then onto his stomach.
"Huh, so that's what happened," Nate sighed, then he let the workers carry his father away "Well, at least my dad went out swinging."
"Who killed him?"
"Athena's cheerleaders shot him in the back," Nate replied as he turned back to his friends "Come on, we should find my grandfather. He'll probably know more about this situation."
They all got onto Gulltoppr and he took them to Odin's fortress, which stood on the furthest cliff away from the Bifrost. It was made completely out of Cobalt Magnesium, at least the outer walls were. There were guards stationed out front and they saluted Gulltoppr as he passed by them into the gates. They got off Gulltoppr and Nate tied him to a pole before walking the path to the fortress. At this point, they had all sheathed their weapons, except for Beth, who used her spear as a walking stick. The doors were locked and the only other way in was to go through those that were always open. The reason the back doors were always guarded was because literally all of the warriors of Asgard would see any intruders. There was virtually no way to get in without being invited... but they were about to try.
"So, is this where the Valkyries train?" Beth asked as they looked over the edge into the combat grounds.
"Yep, with like targets. Mostly war criminals so they can go as hard as they want on them."
Only two were training at the moment, them being Gondul and Gunnr. Gondul was taller than Gunnr despite the latter being a bit older, but like all the other deities they'd encountered, the shortest was only an inch shorter than Beth. While Gunnr had very light skin, seeing as she never left Asgard aside from taking souls from battle grounds to Valhalla, Gondul had lightly tanned skin, likely gained from spending a lot of time in other realms like Jotunheim and Svartalvheim. Gunnr had a much more defined and muscular build, but also had more curves than Gondul, who was much slimmer. Gondul's fiery red eyes contrasted with her hair, which was straight and a light brown that fell down her back and seemed to glow in the sunlight. Gunnr, on the other hand, had curly blonde hair that fell over her shoulders.
They both had very different looking armor that suited their styles and personalities. Gondul's armor was made of ores, stones, and metal found in Muspelheim. From her shoulders down to the middle of her biceps, her armor was made of heavy metal plates. Her chest plate was made of a golden alloy which constantly glowed with the fires of the Realm of Fire. Her gauntlets were also made of a strange metal that seemed to keep the heat in them as a constant source of projectiles if need be. Like most of her Valkyrie sisters, and most inhabitants of Asgard as a whole, she wore leather pants and boots that were armored with more Muspelheim materials.
Gunnr on the other hand had much simpler armor, made of Svartalfheim and Asgardian steel. Neither had any special properties to them aside from simply being some of the strongest metals in the realms. Unlike Gunnr, Freya, or Eir, she wore an armored helmet, but it was more of a crown since it let her hair spill out from the top. Her metal gauntlets came up to just below her elbow and her sleeves stopped at the middle of her upper arm. Her breast plate revealed her midriff and she wore a battle skirt instead of pants, plus metal knee high boots.
As they came to the end of the training ground, they found short craftsmen. They were completely covered, as if allergic to the sun. they seemed to be working on ballistas, catapults, and trebuchets for any incoming attacks, or again, Ragnarök most likely. One of them took his helmet off to wipe the sweat from his brow and was instantly turned to stone when the sun's rays hit him. The thing was, neither Nate, nor the rest of the fully covered workers seemed even a little bit surprised or confused.
"What the hell was that!?!" Mikayla exclaimed.
"Huh? Oh, right. Dwarves and Dark Elves can't go into the sun or else they... Well, do that. Sun is essentially their Medusa's gaze."
"Oh... well that is a little unsettling."
"Yeah... anyway, come on. We're just about to get to the doors." They walked past the statue and Mikayla pushed it over as she walked past just for fun.
