Beth walked down the road until she found the Hermes cabin block, then began walking down the street. She couldn't see where any of them ended or began, so she assumed a new one was made every time someone was found. She walked to the house that Noah had instructed her to go to and knocked on the door. She waited, but after thirty seconds of there being no answer, she knocked again. She could hear someone walking around in the cabin, so she knew he was home. She knocked on the door again and now she could hear him walking toward the door.
He opened it slightly and asked "Who are you?"
He was a bit taller than her, which made sense seeing as he seemed to be two years older than her and Nate. He had sandy blonde hair and a slightly more muscular, but still slim build in comparison to Nate. He had on a blue and white flannel shirt and blue jeans.
"My name is Beth, and I am new to this camp. That Noah boy with the purple eyes told me to come talk to you. He said that since you are also an Olympian born, then you would know more about my situation than he would."
"Yes, Noah is an Aesir born, so it makes sense he would tell you to come to me. He is a good kid, but he can be a little bit arrogant in a sparring match."
"Because he can read minds?"
"Among other abilities. Come inside and ask me whatever you want."
They went into the cabin and Beth looked around at all the strange items littered around the place. It looked like there were weapons, books, clothes, and food from all over the world. It was as if he left and came back all the time, but no one else seemed to have that level of freedom. She asked him all about how their powers were meant to manifest. According to him, the longer a person is around people who have direct divine ancestry, then their powers will manifest over time. None of it made sense to Beth, but what made the least sense to her was why she was never told about any of this. The two talked for so long that the sun began to go down, and neither realized until there was a knock at the door. They looked at the door and Kenneth opened it to see some strange old man. He had a long white beard and bushy white eye brows. He was very scrawny, and yet stood straight. His age showed in his appearance, but his body didn't seem to have any effect on his body. He had no problem standing up straight, he didn't need a cane. The man wore a simple black turle neck and blue jeans, looking very cozy yet slightly professional.
"Ah, Kenneth, I was hoping to find you here. I talked to a few people about the new girl and Noah mentioned that he sent her here. Ah, Beth, it's nice to meet you. My name is Orpheus-"
"Wait, wait! You are Orpheus. The Orpheus. Like, the Lyre player and man Heremes took under his wing Orpheus? Also, the boy who fell in love with and married Eurydice, Orpheus?!" Beth excitedly asked.
"Boy, you sure ask a lot of questions. Yes I am, and I am also the haven's director. I would tell you everything you need to know, but after talking to one of our most accomplished students here, I'm sure you know all you need to."
"That I am Athena's daughter and I am going to stay here for the rest of my life? Also, aren't you like a billion years old now? You couldn't possibly still be alive."
"Oh, no, child. To answer your last question, I am only twenty five hundred and fifty two years old. Now to answer the other question, one is hardly ever here for their entire lives. Most of the time, they're here until the age that most students will have graduated from a normal college. Here, our teachers can teach you everything you'll need for a normal life, and then there's also classes about manifesting and using your abilities, classes about the different pantheons, and combat training. For now, let's get you back to your cabin. You can get to know people more tomorrow."
She nodded, turned back to Kenneth, and said "Good night, Kenneth. It was nice to talk to you."
"It was good to meet you as well," He replied "Oh, but word of advice... stay away from the Norse. Most of them are dirty tricksters and killers."
"What about Noah? He said you two are good friends."
"We are, but he is simply different from most children born from Gods of the Norse pantheon. Most are born of the Aesir Gods, and even Noah's father is an Aesir, one of the most powerful at that. The watchman of Asgard itself."
"Yes, I know who Heimdall is. I have spent time in Norway and Denmark. They have classes about those ancient Gods, so I know all there is to know about them."
Beth walked out and Kenneth closed the door behind her, but not before giving her a chilling warning of "Not everything." After the door closed, Beth decided to ask Orpheus about his past while they walked back to her cabin.
"So, when you lost your wife, you plunged down into the River of Styx, right?" She asked while walking next to the much taller man.
"Yes, child. Also, it's just River Stix, there's no of."
"Oh, right. I apologize."
"No need, little one. I can tell you're a young woman who loves to learn about history. But yes, I was so distraught that I went to the river, hoping to plunge myself in, and be reunited with my wife in Elysium. That was not the fate the Gods had in store for me, however. I was given the opportunity to further cement my place in Elysium with my beautiful bride. All I have to do is help you Divine Born for a few thousand years. She will not age and I will be returned to my youth when I return back to the Underworld."
"So... you are only doing this because of the job?"
"Well... at first, yes. I cared very little for all of these children, but getting to know them, it made me realize something. Taking care of you children has been my life's work. You've all made me realize that once I am reunited with my true child, I will do all to make sure he is safe." They were suddenly in front of the cabin "We can speak more tomorrow. Goodnight, Beth." Before she could respond, he closed the door behind her and walked away.
