The two male Minor Gods disappeared, which confused Beth and Eden. The two walked around the house and found Nate unconscious a few feet away from Mikayla, who was also knocked out. They walked over to them and Beth dragged Nate by the ankle as payback for what he did after her initiation test all those years ago. Eden used roots in the ground to carry Mikayla back into the house, being noticeably more gentle with her than Bethw as being. After a few seconds, Kenneth ran back into the house and saw his two friends.
Nate woke up and groaned "Urgh... how'd your fights go?"
"Not bad, he ran away," Beth replied while sitting next to him.
"I killed mine," Mikayla said weakly as she raised her hand up.
"Nike... just left," Kenneth said "I do not know why, she just... ran off."
"Are you all okay?" Tracey asked as she came down the stairs "I'm sorry I couldn't do anything."
"Tracey, even if you were unhurt, they are Gods," Eden told her "A mere mortal should not try to fight them. You made the right choice."
"I am sorry for the damage we have done to your house," Beth apologized.
"Hey, it's alright. I know you didn't mean any of it. Why were you two fighting earlier, by the way?"
"I wasn't thinking clearly and Beth didn't wanna show me what she's got, so-" Nike suddenly appeared behind Kenneth's mother with her arm around the mortal's neck.
They all stared in disbelief for a moment before Nike ran away with Tracey, followed by her daughter, and Eden yelled "Kenneth!!"
They ran through the town and stopped in a house on the far end of the town. Kenneth stopped at the foot of the house and walked in slowly. He couldn't sense any divine power like Nate could, an ability that would've been really useful. When he went into the living room, he found Nike standing there with a knife in one hand and his mother in the other.
"Oh, is this not nice? Mother and son... back together again," Nike said.
"Nike... please reconsider," Kenneth begged as he cautiously walked toward the two women "Look, take me. This is between us, you want to fight? Then take me on, let her go."
"Kenneth, no!"
"These mortal attachments... they are what separates those who deserve their divinity from those who do not."
"Nike, please..."
"Hey, Kenny, look at me, son..."
"And now, I will take the one thing truly separating you from us."
"Whatever happens tonight, you have made your father and I the proudest any parents could ever be," Tracey told her son with a smile on her face, which seemed to enrage Nike.
"Now, child. You are going to watch your parent die..."
"Nike, no-"
"This is what will make you truly deserving of your divinity!"
"Nike...!" She pulled back and plunged the knife through Tracey's back, the blade piercing through her heart, and tearing out of her chest "No!!!" Nike dropped her to the floor and Kenneth quickly knelt down to his mother "Hey! Hey, hey, hey, mom. No, please, do not leave. Please do not go." She was still alive but fading fast as the blood from her heart was being pumped through her body, but thanks to the knife wound, it was spurting out more and more "Listen, I am going to get you to Eden and Mikayla and they can heal you. I promise, we can..." He could hear her breathing stop and he put her body down "No!!!" He sat on his knees and wept as Nike looked down on him.
"Now you see, do you not?" She asked while carelessly tossing the knife aside "This world would have taken from her before you even reached true divine adulthood." He looked up at her, hatred burning in his tear filled eyes "Now you can do what you were made to do. Is that not what you want?"
"What... what I want?" Kenneth asked, his mother's blood staining his hands "What I want is to kill you!"
He ran up at her and slammed her against the wall, but this didn't seem to do much damage. He pulled back his arm and swung a punch at her head, but she just ran away from it. His fist broke through the wall and she ran up next to him. Before he had time to turn or even register that she was there, Nike thrust a punch into his kidney.
He yelled out and fell to his knees and Nike asked "Is this truly how you intend to avenge your mother? Come on, show me what you can truly do once all weaknesses have been taken away."
Kenneth let out a yell and ran at her, beginning another chase through the streets. Nike could tell he was off balance due to his anger and used this to her advantage. She got behind him and grabbed him by the shoulder, which spun him around. While he was spinning, she punched him twice, first in the stomach, then in the back. He went spiraling through the air and he fell through another tree. He tumbled down to the ground and Nike ran up to him, standing on his chest with one foot for a moment. She looked down at a branch and picked it up, then she swung it down through Kenneth's leg! He let out a yell which was audible from the house, giving the group a location to find Kenneth. Nate and Beth nodded to each other and Eden helped Mikayla get to Gulltoppr, then the four rode as fast as they could to get to their friend.
"Is this truly all the strength you can muster for me?" Nike asked as she ripped the branch out of Kenneth's leg "After losing one of the few people you have left, I would have thought you would try a bit harder." She picked him up by the neck and held him up in the air "Why not give me all you have?"
"Mikayla... killed your sister," Kenneth reminded her. "You do not... seem too bothered."
"She was always too arrogant for her own good," Nike explained "My youngest sister was never content just being an agent of Grandfather... no, she always had to be just like him in every way. That is what led to her ultimate defeat."
"Your arrogance... will lead to yours," Kenneth told her.
"We shall see."
She dropped him and let his accelerated healing restore his leg, then ran away again. He followed her, still in a rage, and he tackled her to the ground. Somehow as they fell, she got on top of him, and pushed his face into the dirt. Nike picked Kenneth up by the back of his shirt, then ran him through several buildings. For as fast as Gulltoppr could move, the beast was no match for Nike or even Kenneth's true speed. They did their best to follow the speedy deities, but they could just barely see them as they ran over the horizon. Nike ran Kenneth across the entire world before throwing him back through Tracey's window. Gulltoppr could finally definitely track them as they had stopped and he took the group back to the house.
"If you were hoping to avenge your mother with that earlier attack, then you are sorely mistaken." She cracked her neck and began to walk toward him again "Now, how about we end this- huh?" She looked down at her ankles and found that they had been encased his roots "What in the-" A blast of Bifrost suddenly threw her away and she looked up to see the entire group, clearly ready to fight, so she got up, and told Kenneth "Our race is nowhere close to finished." Beth and Mikayla tried to attack her, but she ran out of the house before they could reach her.
Nate walked up to Kenneth and extended his Bifrost arm and Kenneth took it. He barely even noticed the burning as Nate pulled him up and the group just stood there, completely shell shocked. For a while, none of them had any idea what to say. The past few days had been so peaceful... but now it was like they were worse off than they had started.
"So uh... what now?" Mikayla asked, completely shocked at the night's events.
"Now?" Kenneth asked "Now we kill Athena... and anyone who gets in our way."
"Fuck yeah, we do," Nate replied, his voice completely angry and determined.
