“Happy birthday, my doll."

Tears welled up in my eyes when I saw the big surprise. They had plans to surprise me, and it brought tears to my eyes. My birthday was never celebrated on its actual day because I lost my mother on that day. Dad never made any effort to even wish me a happy birthday. He always threw a meaningless birthday party the next day. There, he bought a huge cake to show the people he loved me. But I know he doesn't. He has never. It was always to show the people. He is not even here when it's my birthday. All these years, I never wanted a party, a dress, or a big cake. The only thing I wanted from him was to wish me a happy birthday, but it had never happened. More tears welled up in my eyes when Evelyn brought the cake in front of me. My glassy eyes looked at the eighteen candles on the cake. I turned eighteen today. Isabella gave me a knife to cut the cake. I lit the candles before cutting them with a big smile on my face while holding my tears. I fed it to Evylen and Isabela because they were always there for me. Then I turned around to feed it to Erick. He took a small bite and then fed me the rest of it.

“Happy eighteenth birthday, doll,” he said, wiping the tears that ran down my cheeks. He hugged me for a few seconds before letting me go. I fed it to everyone who was here to wish me well.

"Aww, come here,” Evelyn said when she saw my tears running down my eyes. She hugged me tightly. They celebrated my birthday until late at night. We danced and sang till late at night. They even gave me my present. I was stunned and, at the same time, so happy that they had prepared so much. It was late at night when we left for our places. I went to Erick's place because it was my home now, more than the big empty mansion I lived in. We were both so exhausted. I showed up first. His marks stinged when I stood under the hot water, but it felt good. I was so sleepy that I didn't fall asleep until he came to bed. I spent my night in his arms. The next day, Erick took me out. He had taken a day off from all his matches. He wanted to spend his day with me. He had planned everything. We first went to an arcade and played so many games. Then a movie, and then we had our early dinner at my favourite cafe. We had so much fun. I even ate extra dessert today. We were now walking back to his place. I was liking our ice cream, but he stopped suddenly, making me bump into someone.

“I'm sorry,” I said apologetically, spilling my ice cream on someone.

“No problem.” I heard a stiff voice, which made me look up. It made me look up, and my breath hitched. I met a familiar-looking man. It felt like I had seen him before, but I didn't know where. His gold-grey eyes moved from me to Erick. I followed his gaze, and something clicked inside my head. My eyes widened in realisation. Erick's jaw was clenched, and he was glaring at the man.

“Let's go,” Erick said in a stiff voice while holding my hand firmly. That man's jaw clenched when he said that.

“I'm here to talk with you,” that man said, but Erick started to walk away with me as if he had not heard.

"Erick, is it the way of behaving like this with your father?” he said in his cold, stiff voice, and my doubts were confirmed. He stooped, walking, making me haul in my way. He turned around to look at his father.

“You are not my father,” he said on his face, with venom in each word. Saying that we walked away. I looked back at his father. He kept looking at us with a stiff face. Erick was beyond pissed after meeting his father. I decided not to ask him anything because it didn't look like he wanted to. Once we were inside the comfort of his house, I hugged him.

“Are you ok?” I asked while still hugging him tightly. He didn't wrap his arms around me imminently. I know he was in distress. He exhaled loudly, then lifted his hand to wrap around me.

“Hmm,” he hummed while still hugging me tightly. We stayed like that for a few minutes before breaking the hug.

“I completely forgot to give you your gift,” he said while looking down at me. My brows furrowed when he said that he had already given me a gift last night. He gave me a beautiful dress. I loved it so much. He grabbed my hand and took me into the bedroom. He walked to a drawer while I stood looking at him. He came back with a small box.

“What's inside?” I asked, getting excited to know.

“I'm not telling you. Open it,” he said while handing me the box. His mood seemed better now that he was smiling. I smiled back and opened the box with a smile on my face. My eyes widen, and my smile vanishes as I look at my present. It was a delicate-looking ring with a small diamond on it. It looked real, and when I saw the log of the box, it confirmed it. I kept staring at it.

“You didn't like it,” he asked when he got no reaction from me. The excitement in his voice has started to dim.

“No–no. I love it. It's so beautiful,” I said, looking at him with a big smile on my face.

"Really?" he asked, still doubtfully. I know he must be sceptical, thinking I would not like this small diamond ring. How should I tell him that materialistic things don't please me? Affection is what I crave. His gift was also his affection. I know it must have cost him so much, but he still made an effort to buy it for me. It showed he cares. A tear formed in my eyes. I swallowed them.

“Yes, I love it. I would love it even if you had given me a toy ring instead because intention matters not the price of the gift. Thank you,” I said, moving forward and kissing his lips. He wrapped his arms around me, lifting me up and kissing my lips fully. He took the box from me and took the ring to slip into my finger. I beamed looking at it.

“When I become rich, I will buy you the most expensive and biggest diamond in the world,” he said with a promise in his words, and I knew he would.

“I'm happy with this ring. I don't want anything but you in this big world, because you are my diamond. My world shines when you smile,” I said, looking straight into his eyes. His eyes glinted when I said that. He was finding it hard to say anything. So I decided to make things easy. I moved forward and connected our lips. He kissed me back passionately, pouring all his emotions into it.

He is my diamond.

Only mine.
