“Can I have a word with you"
His grey orbs moved all over my surprised face. His sudden appearance had startled me. Looking into those grey orbs brought some sour memories back. I blinked them away, not having the power to deal with them. He was the same as when I saw him last time. His salt and pepper hair neatly jelled, powered by his crisp suit, and everything was the same.
“I know you must not be pleased to see me here,” he said when I still didn't reply to him.
“But can we talk?” he asked me once again, this time raising both brows in hope. I just didn't know what I should say. I was caught in a difficult situation. I see a few guests passing by while looking at us. I forced a nervous smile.
“Mr. Villain, I-" I opened my mouth, but I didn't complete my sentence. He saw the hesitation on my face.
“Please,” he said, trying to convince me. I exhale deeply. I remembered last time what happened when I agreed to talk with him. A shiver passes down my spine even thinking about that day. So do I want history to repeat itself? I wanted to deny him, but the way he was looking at me with pleading eyes made it hard for me to refuse him. I exhaled deeply once again. I was about to agree when a firm hand was placed on my waist and I was pulled to the hard chest. A spicy, intoxicating scent entered my nose.
“She can't. Excuse us, we have guests to attend,” he said sternly, pulling me away with him. I turned my head to look at his father. He kept looking at us with his hands in his pocket. Erick didn't even wait for his reply. He decided to walk away rudely. I gave him an apologetic smile, not knowing what else to do. He just gave me a small nod. He took me to the corner of the room. Everyone else was busy doing their own thing, paying no attention to us. He pressed me against the wall. He stood in front of me, invading my personal space.
“What were you doing with him?'' he asked me sternly. He looked down at me with his agreed, cold blue eyes. My brows furrowed when he asked me that.
“He came to talk with me,” I replied sternly, using the same tone he used with me.
“He came to talk, and you started talking with him,” he questioned sternly while looking down at me. His cold blue eyes still held the anger he felt against his father.
“I didn't. Happy! Now get away,” I said sternly, trying to push him away, but he didn't budge. My jaw clenched. I decided to walk from the side. He placed his hand on the wall, not letting me walk away. I tried to walk away from the other side, but he placed his other arm on the wall, stopping me. I closed my eyes and exhaled in irritation. I opened my eyes and looked back into his cold eyes.
“What is your problem?” I said while folding my hands on my chest.
“You want to know,” he asked with a raised brow, and I kept glaring at him. His nose flared, and anger bubbled up in his eyes.
“I have a problem when you go and talk with the people I despise. I have a problem when you try to avoid me in front of everyone. I have a problem when you try to run away from me. I have a problem when you smile at everyone but glare at me. I have a problem when you don't pick up my phone but happily answer everyone else. I have a problem when you ask people for their black car when I can easily give one,” he said, fuming in anger while looking straight into my eyes. He gave me the entire list. I didn't say anything, but I kept looking at him. His list was quite long, and I know what more problems he has with me.
“If you want a black card, why didn't you ask me?” he asked sternly while still glaring at me with cold blue eyes.
“Because I don't want to ask you,” I said in the same tone, and his jaw clenched.
“Why don't you want it from me, but you will happily accept it from Xanthus?” he asked, bringing us to square one.
“Because I want nothing from you. Not now and never,” I said, getting irritated now. His nose flared even more in anger. He looked up as if trying to control himself.
“Why?” He asked fumingly.
“What is the use of giving it when you are going to take everything from me in the end? Even if I beg you not to,'' I said sternly, looking straight into his eyes. Tears started to form in my eyes, but I pushed them back, not wanting to look weak.
“I have learned enough from my past mistakes, and I will not repeat them,” I said while trying my best to control my emotions. My eyes turned glassy and blurry. The more I tried to hide my tears, the more they threatened to fall on my orbs. The more I tried to hold a strong façade, the more my emotions tried to threaten to break. His cold blue eyes moved all over my face. His cold blue eyes coldly examined the pain that was trying to surface in my eyes. I saw he found it hard to swallow, looking at the pain in my eyes. He knew what I was talking about. He looked up, trying to control something.
“You are right,” he said softly, surprising me. I never expected him to accept it. He pushed himself away from the wall, making enough distance between us. My body felt cold when he moved away. He looked at me one last time before walking away. He walked away, leaving me confused. I just kept looking at his retreating. In just a split second, he looked so distant. I don't know why, but it felt like my heart was squeezed into a painful grip.
He has never done that before.
