“Who the hell invited him here?"

I averted my eyes and welcomed my other friends who walked inside. I brought up the smile on my face to welcome them. I could feel his eyes on me. Follow me where I went. I had no intention of acknowledging his presence. I'm going to keep ignoring him. I was doing my best to not look at him, but what was irritating me most was that he didn't even for a second avert his eyes from me. It was getting on my nerves now. He was standing with Xanthua and Danyal. He kept his distance from Andrew. It looked like they were engaged in conversation.

“Grace” Isabelle came running to me, making me look her way.

“What happened?” I asked with furrowed brows.

“I can't find the ring, and Alex is panicking,” she said while huffing with a distressed look on her face.

"I just got a message from Aria. They will be here in fifteen minutes,” I said in distress. I had sent Evelyn and Aria shopping so we could keep her away until we were done with our preparation.

"Come, let's go,” I said while taking her hand and going to his room.

“Alex, how can you lose the ring? I had just kept here,” I said in annoyance. This annoyance was not because of him but because of certain blue eyes that kept following me everywhere.

“I didn't. I just don't know where I kept it after showing it to her mother. God, I'm messing up everything. I don't think Evelyn is ever going to say yes to me. I can't even keep a ring properly,” he said nervously while moving his hand in his hair in distress. I took a deep breath. I need to calm down. He is getting more nervous.

“What has happened to you, Alex? You are such a confident guy and have faith in yourself. You sit down and relax. Take deep breaths. I will find the ring,” I said with a smile, trying to encourage him. To boost his confidence.

"Isabella, help him,” I told her, and she nodded her head, understanding the assignment.

“Alex, take a deep breath like this,” she demonstrated for him, and he followed it. I just moved my head and started to search for a ring in his room.

“I just hope I get it before Evelyn is here,” I mumbled under my breath, finding it everywhere in the room. There was a knock on the door, and it made me straighten up. We all looked at each other with pale faces.

"Fuck, she is here,” Alex said anxiously. He stood up from his place with one hand on his hip and the other pulling back his hair in distress. I exhaled, looking at him.

“Alex, relax. You think she will knock before coming into her room?” I said in my calm voice, and it made some sense to him.

"Yeah, you are right,” he breathed out and slumped back on the bed.

“Come in,” Alex said, making me half turn towards the door. The door was open, and he walked inside. My eyes narrowed in his direction.

Why is he here now?

“I think you are searching for this,” he said, showing the small box. My brows furrowed as I looked at the box in his hand.

How does he have it?

“Erick, my man, you saved me,” Alex said, standing up from his place with a huge smile on his face. He walked to him and hugged him.

“I can't thank you enough. You don't know how much I love you. You will be my best man,” Alex said while still hugging him. Alex's action had caught Erick off guard. He just patted his back in response with an awkward smile on his face.

“Where did you find it?” Isabelle asked Erick curiously.

“I found it on the kitchen counter,'' he told her, but he was looking at me, and then I remembered it was not Alex who kept it there. It was me. My face turned red, and I looked away while hitting my inner cheek. I kept it there because I was helping Alex with his jacket. He was so nervous, and I was trying my best to calm him down, and that's when I left it on the kitchen counter. He knows it was not Alex who lost it. I cleared my throat and looked away. My cell phone beeped, and it caught my attention. I checked my cell phone immediately. My eyes widened while reading the message.

"Guys, they will be here in ten minutes,” I said in a serious tone, getting everyone's attention. The air became thick for a second, and I saw Alex swallowing hard.

“Stop being a statue. Let's hurry up.” I clapped my hands, and that made them move. We were all down in no time.

"Guys, get ready. She is going to be here in ten minutes. Hide everyone. Isabella, switch off the lights,” I announced while clapping my hand. Everyone followed my instructions immediately. I was about to hide behind the couch when my wrist was gripped in a firm hold and I was pulled behind the wall near the kitchen. My breath hitched when his familiar scent engulfed me. My face grimed. I put both my hands on his chest and tried to push him away, but he made his firm on my waist, making me clash with the hard chest. A gasp left my mouth when he did that.

“Stay quiet if you don't want to ruin your best friend's surprise,” he whispered in his deep voice in my ear, making my whole body shiver. It made me press my lips together, having no choice because I heard the clicking of heels. All I wanted to do was push him and slap him, but here I was standing in his embrace. I sucked deep breath when I felt him burying his face in my neck and taking deep breaths in my scent. He pressed his lips on a throbbing nerve in my neck. I sucked deep into my breath. He was taking advantage of the darkness.

“I have shifted our engagement date,” he mumbled in my ear in his deep voice and then pressed a kiss on the shell of my ear. His hands moved up from my waist to my bare back, making lazy circles on it. Goosebumps formed on my whole body. My fingers curled on his shirt. Thank God, now I will have more time before getting tied to him. I hope he has shifted after six months. I have a new fashion week lined up for the coming week. I had already started to make plans. I was happy after getting the good news. If it were in my hands, I would postpone it all my life. For the first time, I was getting good news from his mouth. I didn't even want to know on which date or month he had shifted the date of engagement. He sensed it, and that's why he asked the next question.

“Don't you want to know on which day I have shifted it?” he asked once again, whispering in my ear. My silence gave him the answer. He exhaled deeply, making a warm breath fan in my skin. The whispers of his deep, warm breath did something to me.

“We will get engaged next week, Doll,” he whispered in my ear, making my eyes go wide. And at the same time, lights were switched on, and everyone yelled.

"Surprise.” I looked at him with wide eyes. At the end of the day, it was me who ended up getting a surprise.

Engagement next week, no way.
