That memory was too painful for me.
My back remained pressed to the bathroom door, and whole tears kept rolling down from my eyes. Even the mere mention of that day brought all those memories back in just a flash of a few seconds. It was hard for me. It was the same day when I lost my baby. The day when we promise that we will get married to each other. The day when we promise a better future to each other with our child. The day we dared to dream the dreams that were so impossible for us to reach. Those dreams never turned into reality. Even after all this year, it still feels like everything happened just yesterday. I remember rushing to the hospital and crying in pain alone. I kept calling his name again and again, but he was nowhere. Lily was beside me, telling me to take deep breaths and asking me to be calm, but I just couldn't. I wanted Xanthus to be on my side, but he was nowhere when I needed him. I kept on calling his name until I blacked out because of unbearable pain. I stopped myself from remembering it even further. My breaths started to come in pats. I walked to the sink and splashed cold water on my face. The colder sends a shiver down my spine. It made blood rush to my face. I held the edge of the basin and took a deep breath to calm myself down.
“It was all in the past,” I whispered under my breath. I tried to remember the exercise I used with my counsellor.
“It was all in the past,” I repeated once again and took a deep breath. It took me a few minutes to calm myself down. Once I felt a little stable, I opened the bathroom. Only to find him standing in front of the door patiently waiting for me. His cold blue eyes moved all over my face. I blink my bloodshot eyes and decide to walk away from the side, but before I can walk out of the room. He wrapped his arms around me and hugged me tightly from behind. He rested his face on my back, and I closed my eyes. The pain once again became unbearable, and I could hold myself back. Tears rolled down from my eyes on my cheeks. I was crying silently at the beginning, but then my silent sobs turned into wails. I started to cry loudly, and he kept holding me tightly from behind.
Letting me cry in his arms. I didn't try to break him; instead, I kept crying harder and harder until I just couldn't take it. In the end, my body gave up in exhaustion, and my body became limp in his hold. I had no energy left in me now. It felt like I let all the pent-up emotions me. The emotions that I have buried deep down in my heart. I wanted to do this a long time ago, but I just couldn't until now. He carried me to bed and lay beside me. I felt so drained. Physical and mental. He pulled me to his chest, and my body gave up. I ended up sleeping in his arms even though tears kept following from the corner of my eyes. The next day, I was surprised to see him still in the bed, holding me to his chest. We were in the same position till the morning. He had his breakfast with me. He didn't mention us going to Paris together, and it made me take deep breaths of relief. Things went back to being the same. After the office, I did the rest of the packing. Tomorrow I am leaving for Paris. I decided to go to bed early because I was so tired. I was tired, but sleep refused to come to my eyes. After midnight, I heard the door cracking noise. It was him. I took a deep breath and then closed my eyes. After some time, I felt myself being pulled to his warm chest.
“I'm leaving for Paris tomorrow,” I whispered with my eyes still closed. His arm wrapped around my waist in a vice grip. He didn't say anything, nor was I expecting a reply. As if my body were waiting to be in his embrace, it gave in. I ended up falling into a deep sleep in his arms. The next day I got ready to leave the house. I asked the driver to keep my luggage in the car.
“Done, let's leave,” I said to the driver. To my surprise, he said Erick was going to drop me at the airport. I thought he left for the office, but he was home working from his home office. He took the car keys from the driver, and then we left. I stayed silent throughout the ride. Aria was surprised to see Erick dropping me at the airport.
“Has he taken his husband's duty seriously?” Aria chuckled while looking at how he was pushing all my luggage. It made me laugh. I don't say anything.
“There is still time for flight. You can go,” I said to him when we reached the waiting lounge.
“No, I will wait until you board the plane,” he said firmly, surprising me. I blink my eyes to make that look go away.
“You don't have to. Don't you have an office?” I asked after clearing my throat.
“I do, but I have priorities too,” he said in a firm voice, making my breath hitch. He was indirectly telling me I was his priority. My breath hitched when he said he liked that. I had no reason left to send him. My heart kept thumping loudly in my rib cage.
Didn't this man hate me?
If he wants to take his revenge on me, then why is he acting out of his character?
Why is he making me so confused with his actions?
What is he trying to prove?
