Today is the day I'm getting engaged to him.

Even those thoughts made my shoulders slump as if tons of weight were kept on my fragile shoulders. I don't know if I will be able to carry that weight without collapsing. I exhaled deeply. Our engagement was going to take place in Villin's main house. All the functions of the family take place there, as per Grandma's strict rules. Even though Erick's father was not much in his life, his paternal family always supported him, especially Grandma and Xanthus's dad. Xanthus’s father trained him after he passed business school. He trained him until he was capable of opening his new company. Now he was successful in his business and was running one of the big companies, all because of the support he got from them. He respected all the elders in the family very much, and it showed in his actions. That's why he was doing our engagement here and not in his big mansion, which he loves to show off. My eyes moved to the clock on the wall. It was almost time to go down. I was done with makeup, and my hair was waiting here. The door cracked, making me look at it. Sabrina walked in with Lilly. They had a very big smile on their faces.

“Wow, you look so good. Just like a princess,” Sabrina said, looking at me. Her excitement brought a big smile to my face. She hugged me tightly, making me smile. I hugged her with the same warmth.

“You look so gorgeous,” Lilly said with tears in her eyes. She hugged me too. It brought tears to my eyes too. We heard a throat clearing from behind them. It made me look behind her. I was shocked to find my father in the room. What was he doing here? He walked in, looking at my furrowed brows. He had a box in his hand, which he handed to Lilly. She took it and walked behind me, confusing me. The box was opened, and there was a beautiful diamond necklace with an emerald in the middle. It was so elegant, but it looked familiar. I have seen it somewhere, but I don't remember where. My eyebrows furrowed even more looking at the necklace. My father cleared his throat once again, making me look at him.

“It's your mother,” he said, looking down at me and trying his best to sound soft.

“It always belonged to you, and today I'm giving it to you,” he said, and my eyes moved back to it. Now I remember seeing it in their wedding picture. My hands moved on their own, and my fingers touched them. She wore it to her wedding. Unknowingly, tears welled up in my eyes looking at it. For the first time, I was seeing something that belonged to my mother. I swallowed hard, looking at it.

“Let me help you with it,” Lilly said, and then she placed it on my neck.

“You look even more beautiful with it,” Sabrina said with beaming eyes while looking at me. It made me chuckle.

“You look just like your mother. As beautiful as her,” my father said, suddenly making my heart beat fast with a rush of emotions in my whole body. I never got any compliments from him. I swallowed hard and turned around to look in the mirror. I looked into the mirror only to see my blurred reflection. Tears had welled up in my eyes, but I blinked them away. Sage walked inside the room and was surprised to find my family in it.

“I'm sorry. I will be back again,” she apologised, ready to go back, but I stopped her.

“It's time to go down,” she said, looking at my teary eyes. I took a deep breath and nodded my head. Lilly kept a hand on my shoulder as if feeling like she was with me.

“We will be down, waiting for you,” she said with a warm smile on her face. I nodded my head, and then my eyes unknowingly moved to my father. He gave me a small smile before turning around to walk away. Once they were out, Saged walked to me.

“Are you ok?” She hugged me from the side. I don't know. So many things are going on inside me. I don't know how to tackle them. These feelings and all of my emotions were making me feel overwhelmed. I took a deep breath.

“Yes,” I said, still not being sure about it.

“Let's go down. He is waiting for you impatiently,” Sage said, making my heart beat once again with this unknown fera. I went down with her. Everyone was looking at me when I climbed down the stairs. I could feel his cold blue eyes burning holes in my face, but I refused to look at him. I was not ready for it. I met with everyone except him. All of them showered me with compliments. My face flushed, not expecting it.

“You look so gorgeous, my dear,” Grandma said with a huge smile on her face. She kissed my forehead as if giving me her blessings. I accepted them with open arms. I was in utter need of them; after all, I was marrying her devil grandson. After breaking the hug, she made me stand beside her blue-coloured demon grandson. My body stiffened as soon as his expensive perfume entered my nose.

"Sage, darling, please go and bring rings,” Xanthus's mother told Sage. She nodded her head and went upstairs to get it. I saw how Xanthus followed her sneakily.

“Why are you standing so far from him?” Sophia said, pushing me towards Erick. Sophia is Sage's best friend, and she is even friends with Erick. Her push made me land straight on his chest and immediately secure his arm around my waist, pulling me near him. I heard a few chuckles when she did that. Once again, my face flushed. I still refused to look at him. I was not ready to look into his cold blue eyes. Those eyes were capable of melting me down into a puddle of water. Why is Sage taking so long to bring the rings? His warm breath fanned in my ear, and it accompanied my heartbeat.

“Avoid me as much as you want, but once we are back home, You will be all mine,” he whispered in my ear, making my heart almost jump out of it. I completely forgot that after the engagement I would go to his place, not my father's. A shiver of sweet fear passed all over my body, making me swallow hard.

“I can't wait to take you home.”
