He has never done that before.
I stayed there cold for a few minutes, not knowing what was happening in my life anymore. I do not know what I should do now to come out of it. Every attempt to come out of it pulls me deep and deep into the puddle of the past. It's just behaviour that makes me forget it. It is still so fresh in my memory as if it had happened just yesterday. A tear slid down from my left eye, and I wiped it immediately from the back of my hand. I don't want anyone to notice me crying. I swallowed my tears and pulled up a forced smile on my face. I have to act happy. I have been doing this all my life. Smiling from the outside, even though I'm dying from the inside.
"Grace, where were you?” Isabella came to me. I turned my head to look at her.
“I went to the washroom,” I lied, and her brows furrowed, looking at my face.
“What happened?” she asked, knowing very well that something was wrong. She has always been like that. The first one to notice if I'm upset. I sniffed and moved my head. I don't want to open up about the past. My eyes unknowingly moved all over to find him, but he was nowhere. I took a shaky breath before looking at her.
“Why were you looking for me?” I asked, trying to change the topic. Her expression changed confused. She knew what I was trying to do, so she didn't press that matter any further.
"Come, let's sit first,” she said while taking my hand and finding an empty seat. She asked the waiter to bring drinks for us.
“Now that we are done with your engagement, We have to prepare for Xanthus and Sages. They will get married immediately after the engagement,” she told me, her brows furrowed.
“Yes, I know about it,” I said to her. “Thank you,” I said to the waiter after taking the glass from him. Isabella thanked him, too, after taking the glass.
“So I was thinking we should throw a bachelor's party for her,” she said excitedly. I raised my eyebrows.
“The idea sounded fun, but I have never been to a bachelor party before. What are we supposed to do at the party?” I asked, wanting to know. I have to throw a bachelor party for Evelyn, too, when they fix their marriage date.
“You don't worry about it. I will take care of everything,” she said with a cunning smile on my face. Her cunning smile is only an indication of danger.
“What are you planning?” I asked while looking at her with narrowed eyes. Her cunning smile widened.
“Something you will enjoy a lot,” she said while wiggling her eyebrows, and now I was more scared. This woman sitting in front of me is so unpredictable. She is a ticking bomb, not filled with explosives but with a sparkling colour.
“Just spill it,” I said while sipping my drink. My eyes remained narrow in her way.
“Have patience, baby,” she said, and she gulped her drink in one go before standing up.
“Bye doll,” she teases me, making me look at her with more narrowed eyes. She has heard Erick call me a doll many times in the past. I was surprised that she still remembered it. I moved my head. I looked around me while sipping my drink. The party was almost over, and most of the guests had left. I once again moved my eyes to get his gillims, but I found him nowhere. Where did he go? I kept sitting at the same table for an hour, watching everyone leave. My family left half an hour ago. I asked the waiter to bring me more drinks to make the numbness I felt in my chest go away. I even stopped counting how much I drank. I just finished another glass when I felt someone standing behind me. I found his driver standing behind me.
"Ma'am, sir, has asked me to take you home,” he told me. And it made me look at him with raised brows.
“Where is he?” I asked, looking at him.
“I don't know,” he said with an apologetic look in his eyes. He left me alone, and our engagement disappeared somewhere. Once again, I felt the squeeze in my heart. I wanted to sit here and drink more, but it was getting late at night.
“Let's go,” I said, standing up and starting to walk to the exit. I had drunk so much, but I still didn't even feel a bit drunk. Soon, I was on my way to my golden cage. I was willingly going back to it. I open the window, letting the cold breeze calm the storm inside me. I closed my eyes, rested my head on the corner, and let the cold air play with my hair.
"Ma'am, we have reached,” the driver informed me. I took a deep breath and opened my eyes. He opened the door for me, and I thanked him before walking inside. Fergus was waiting for me at the door.
“Congratulations on your engagement,” he said with a slit bow. A humourless chuckle left my mouth.
“Where is he?” I asked him while my eyes moved all over the house to get his glimpse.
“Master is not at home,” he told me. I pressed my lips together.
“Would you like to eat something?” he asked me when I started to walk towards his bedroom.
"Goodnight, Fergus,” I said while climbing up the stairs. I went to the room expecting him to be there, but I was greeted with a cold room. I walked to the bathroom and removed my clothes. I stood under the hot stem of water. As soon as it touched my body, the emotion I had been holding back for so long started to leak from my orbs. I slide down and sit on the floor while pulling my legs to my chest. I felt so cold, even though I was standing under the hot water. This coldness was not what the body experienced. Tears kept running from my eyes. The coldness I experienced was felt only with the heart. My heart is slowly turning more and more cold.
I just hope it freezes for good.
