I never imagined this night would take such a turn.
The next day, when I woke up, I still found him in bed beside me. I was beyond surprised. I thought he must have left for work because I woke up pretty late. He once again helped me to the bathroom, even though I told him I would do it on my own. My stuff was brought, as he said. I changed into my clothes instead of his. I had to take a day off at the office. He was working from his office at home. I stayed in bed the whole day. I only woke up when he woke me up for the food. The next day's cramps were not that severe, but they still hurt. The next day, I went to the office. I didn't do much work that day. But the next day, I had to. Lots of work was piling up for me. Today Aria has brought a gown design for me. My engagement was less than a week away. I told her to choose whatever she liked. I was least interested in my engagement. I was busy at work when my cell phone started to ring. I picked it up without looking at the number.
"Hello,” I answered while still finalising details on a customised wedding gown for a client. I have started to do wedding gowns, but I have not launched them in any fashion week. I do it when there is a special request. Xanthus has put the responsibility on my shoulders to design his tuxedo.
“Did you have your lunch?” I heard a voice that I refused to recognise. It was so calm and gentle. I had to peel my cell phone away from my ear to see if the right person was calling me. I read his name twice. Yes, it was him. I exhaled and put the phone back in my ear.
“Not yet,” I hummed instead of saying yes.
“Ok,” he said, and then he cut the call. I looked at my cell. He called me to ask this. I don't know what is going on in his head. He is behaving strangely. He had asked me the same question yesterday, but yesterday my answer was yes. I was still staring at my cell phone when there was a knock on my office door. I looked up, only to find Andrew standing there with a huge smile on his face.
“I hope I'm not disturbing you,” he said with that big smile still on his face.
“You are not. Please come in. What a surprise. What are you doing here?” I said with a big smile on my face.
“I had some work with Evelyn. Now that I'm done with her, I thought I should say hello to you,” he said while taking an empty seat in front of my desk.
“How is work going?” he asked, looking at my sketches on my iPad.
“It's great. We didn't get much time to catch up with each other last time. How long are you here?” I asked with the same smile on my face.
“I'm here for one more week. Then I'm heading to California for a new project,” he told me, making me nod my head. He keeps travelling for his job. I fancy his job.
“I would love to travel the world like you,” I said while closing the screen of my laptop.
“It's fun, but you also miss your home and family so badly that you want to run back as soon as you are done with work,” he explains about how he feels about his job. He feels like that because he has a loving family and a cosy home where his family waits eagerly for his every visit. I don't even have a family, and now I don't even have a home. I went back to my apartment yesterday after work, but when I tried to open it with my key, it didn't work. He had made sure I couldn't get back into my apartment. I have nowhere else to go but his place. I gave him a tight smile.
“So if you are here for one more week, then you are invited to attend my engagement,” I said again with a tight smile on my face. I don't know if he will come or not, but if he is here, I have to invite him. He has always been a good friend to me.
“I will be there, but you have to take responsibility for my safety on that day. Make sure Erick doesn't attack me. What if he thinks you will put a ring on my finger instead of him?” he joked, making both of us laugh. It can happen. I don't know what goes on in his evil mind. My stomach grumbled.
“I hope you have not had your lunch yet,” I said while taking out my cell phone. He confirmed with a negative nod of his head.
"Chinese?" I asked, and he nodded his head and gave me a thumbs up. I ordered our food, and it came quickly. My stomach grumbled even more when the delicious aroma lingered in the air as soon as the takeout came. We enjoyed our food over small conversations and jokes. I was laughing at his silly jokes when the door to my office was opened. I stopped smiling when I saw who was standing at the door. Erick was standing there with a brown bag in his hand. It looked like a takeout bag. Looking at my face, Andrew turned to see who was there. Erick's jaw clenched when his eyes fell on Andrew. I don't know why I swallowed hard after looking at his angry face. His cold blue eyes moved from him to me. Cold blue clashed with green. I found myself taking a deep breath. The anger I had not seen in these past two days was back on every muscle of his face.
“What is he doing here?” he asked sternly. The question was directed straight at me. The blue in his eyes turned as cold as an iceberg. The calmness and gentleness vanished as if it never existed.
The Devil was back.
Here we go again.
