“I'm staying here for the night.”
“What!” he exclaimed with that grim look still on his face. It was very clear on his face that he didn't even like that idea a bit.
“I told you, Grace, you should go. I will stay back with your dad,” Lily said, reading his face. I glared at him, asking him to hide the displeasure on his face. He cleared his throat immediately and tried to cover it with a fake cough, but it was too late. Lily had already seen it.
“No! Lily, you need to take a rest. I will stay back. You can come in the morning like we had decided earlier,” I said, trying my best to convince her.
“I don't want you to fall sick while taking care of Dad. He needs you the most, so you should take a good rest,” I continued with a small smile on my face. I nudge my elbow in his stomach to make him talk.
“Yes, she is right. You need to take a rest. If you are ready, let's leave,” he said with a forced smile on his face. Lily exhaled, looking at me and then at him. She thought for a few minutes before agreeing to go.
“I will come in the morning. If he needs anything, all the things are kept in the drawer, and if you don't find anything, call me,” she said while taking hold of my hand. I covered it with my other hand.
“Don't worry, I will find everything. I want you to rest without any worries,” I assured her with a small smile and squeezed her hand slightly.
“I know. I trust you," she said with a slight nod. All the time I was feeling his heated stare at me. He wanted to talk so much. He wanted to protest. I could see it in his blue eyes, but he kept standing quietly.
“Let's go," he said to Lily, who nodded at him. He walked away with her without saying bye to me or even giving me a second glance. I felt a sting when he walked away like that. He is mad at me now. Why won't he? I bit on my lower lip in distress and kept looking at his back until he disappeared behind the closed doors of the elevator. I exhaled deeply before walking back into Dad's room. He was still sleeping. His medicine was heavy, so he was sleeping most of the time. He should be taking a rest. If he was at home, he would have kept working on his laptop till late, even in this state. I sat on the couch, having no choice.
I decided to pass my time on my cell phone. I waited for his message, but he didn't message me, so I called and asked Lily if she had reached home. She told me she had arrived half an hour ago and had just had her dinner. Now she was about to go to sleep. She asked me if Dad needed something. I told her he was still sleeping. I told her to take a good rest before ending the call. A nurse came to check on Dad after ten minutes. I am getting hungry now. I had eaten before leaving the wedding, but I was still hungry now. I thought of going to the canteen to get something, but then I thought, What if Dad woke up and needed something? In the end, I decided not to leave. I kept looking at my cell phone, waiting for his message or call, but he was not doing any. Should I message him, or should I call him? He is mad at me. I should call him. I bit on my lower lip for a second.
Yes, I should call him. I dialled his number, but before it could ring, I cut the call. Why should I call him? If he is angry, let him be. Why is it bothering me so much? Why am I even thinking about him so much? He can stay mad at me. He won't be bothering me if he stays mad at me. The situation has turned in my favour. If I was at home, he would be all over me, but now I'm free. I should enjoy my free time. Maybe I should sleep and have a good rest. Yes, I should sleep. It's the only way of stopping me from thinking about him constantly. I removed my sandals and decided to lie down on the couch. I took a deep breath before closing my eyes. As soon as I closed my eyes, his face flashed in front of my closed eyes. It made me open my eyes immediately. Don't think about him. I commanded myself before turning around and changing the position to be in a more comfortable position. I adjusted myself again a little before closing my eyes. I hoped not to see his face again, but it flashed in front of my closed eyes once again. I'm annoyed now.
Why do I see his face when I close my eyes?
Why is he invading my mind and all my thoughts so much?
Am I missing him?
My eyes widened at the realisation. No, I'm not missing him. Why would I miss that devil? I grunted. I groaned in annoyance when I found no answer to my question. I sat up because I couldn't fall asleep. My stomach grumbled once again. I'm hungry, and that's why all these stupid thoughts are coming to my head. I should eat something and sleep. I chewed on my lower lip while looking at my sleeping father. I decided to grab something quick from the canteen and come back quickly. I grabbed my cell phone and stood up to walk out of the room. As soon as I opened the door of the room, I clashed with someone.
“Ouch,” I hissed in pain while grabbing my nose. I looked up. I thought it was a doctor who came to check on my dad, but it was my husband. My eyes widened finding him standing here. I blinked my eyes, thinking I was seeing his face now with open eyes. I blinked several times, but he was still standing in front of me. I had forgotten the pain in the top of my nose. He was here. My heart starts to thump loudly.
“What are you doing here?” I asked nervously in a whispering tone. A mischievous smirk formed on the corner of his lips while I said that. He leaned slightly on the door frame and then raised his brow.
“You don't know?”
