Engagement next week, no way.

“Happy birthday to you.” I heard everyone singing, and it made me come out of shock. I closed my half-ajar mouth and blinked my eyes. I took a deep breath and pushed him away. I need to come out of my shock. It was not the right time to fight. He kept looking down at me with his cold blue eyes. I pushed him, and he let me go. I turned around and walked to the place where all my friends were. Evelyn was standing in front of the cake, ready to cut it, but her eyes were finding someone in the people around her. Evelyn smiled and widened when she spotted me coming towards her. It was me who she was finding. I pulled my lips up and smiled at her. I smiled for my best friend through my pain.

“Where were you?” she said while pulling my hand to make me stand beside her. I moved my head and smiled, not being able to say anything. I was too stunned to speak.

“Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to dear Evyln! Happy birthday to you.” Everyone started to sing the song. I could feel his burning eyes on me. I walked away without saying a word to him. My eyes moved to him, and his eyes were already on me. It made me look away.

"Eat.” Evelyn put a piece of cake in front of my mouth after she fed Alex. I smiled at her and opened my mouth. She was busy feeding everyone cake when Alex sat on her knee behind her. She turned around suddenly, and her eyes went wide in surprise, finding Alex on his knee with a ring in his hand. Her hands shoot up to cover her mouth. She was too stunned, not expecting a proposal at her surprise birthday party.

“Will you marry me, my love, and make me the luckiest man on this planet?” he asked confidently with a huge nervous smile on his face. He had forgotten the lines he had released in nervousness. Everyone was holding their breath, waiting for her reply. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she nodded her head.

“Yes, I will,” she said with tears running down her eyes. He slipped the ring on her finger, and then she pulled him up to kiss him. Everyone clapped for the happy couple. I was in a trance the whole time, but it broke when I heard the loud clapping. The bubble I was in broke, making me blink my eyes. I took a deep breath and walked to my friend to be part of her happiness. It was time to be happy for her. So I decided to keep my sorrows at bay. There was no end to them.

“I'm so happy for you,” I said with tears in my eyes and a happy smile on my face. She cried, looking at the tears in my eyes. I engulfed her in a tight embrace.

“I'm so happy for you both,” I said, pulling Alex in to do a group hug. Tears are running freely from my eyes. I couldn't hold them back anymore.

“I just can't wait to be at your wedding,” I said while still hugging them tightly. Andrew walked to me when I broke the hug. He hugged his sister and congratulated the couple.

“Are you ok?” Andrew asked while wrapping his arm around my shoulder. I looked at him and smiled at him through my tears. He lifted his hand and rubbed his thumb on the corner of my eyes.

“You don't look cute while crying, chubby,” he said playfully. It made a chuckle pass my lips. He put his hand over my shoulder, pulling me to him for a side hug. I could feel his cold blue eyes making holes in my back, but I chose to ignore him for the rest of the night.

“When did you all plan this?” Evelyn asked Alex, making me look at him.

“It took a week to prepare everything and a decade and a half of courage to propose to you,” he said cheekily, making Evelyn smile with a light slap on his chest.

“But this was not possible without your friends. Girls, thank you so much. I'm always going to be in debt to you,” he said, appreciating us. We all waved it off.

“It was our duty to make your days special,” I said while hugging Evelyn from the side.

“You know, I got suspicious when Aria kept on delaying leaving the mall. I thought there was a surprise birthday party, but instead, I got the most precious gift,” she said with a happy smile on her face.

“Thank you, baby, and I love you,” Evelyn said, kissing Alex. We all hoot for the happy couple.

“Awww'' we all said together, making their faces flush. After fifteen years of togetherness, they still looked like they got into a relationship yesterday. Their love is so real and never-ending. I'm so happy for both of them. Guys came in and congratulated the couple.

“My man, congratulations!” Xanthus engulfed Alex in a tight hug.

“Where is Sage?” Evelyn asked, not finding Sage in the room.

“Grandma has put her on house arrest before our marriage because both her guards are here,” he told her, then eyed me and Isabella. The past month has been such a roller coaster ride. Sage revealed she was a woman, and then it was such a big deal. She even resigned when she returned to her hometown, but Xanthus brought her back. Of course, after blackmailing. The same blood runs in both cousins. They only know how to blackmail. And now they are officially getting married, and Xanthus is prohibited from meeting Sage alone.

“It's hard to keep him away from her when we are so busy with our mess. But we still try. We take our responsibilities seriously,” Isabell said, showing her teeth to her big brother, who in return rolled his eyes in annoyance.

“He weeps on my shoulder because he can't see her,” Danyal said, making us all laugh. Xanthus glared at his best friend. “What! It's not a secret that you are madly in love with Sage. Dude was even ready to become gay for her'' Danyal jokes, making everyone laugh. Xanthus glared at him again but, in the end, chuckled.

“It's true,” Xanthus said, confirming it while scratching his forehead with a sheepish smile on his lips. He was not mad anymore, but he was still giving Sage a hard time. I don't know when he will man up and tell her how much he loves her.

“Congratulations both of you," but this time it was him. I didn't look at him. I didn't want to.

“Thank you,” Evelyn said with a half smile on her face.

“Who invited him here?” I asked Aria in a hushed tone. She was standing behind me. I could feel his eyes on me. He thinks I'm talking to Andrew because I'm standing beside him. It looked like I was whispering in his ear.

"Alex,” Aria mumbled back, making me nod my head while chewing my inner cheek.

"Guys, I have an announcement too.” I heard his firm voice, and before I could get what was going on, I was pulled away from Andrew to his chest. His hand was firmly placed on my waist in a firm grip, so I didn't run away.

What is it now?

“We are getting engaged this coming week. You will all get the official invitation, but all of you are invited,” he said with a smile on his face, looking especially at Andrew. As if telling him to back away now. My eyes widened when he announced it. Everyone congratulates us. I had to pull up a fake smile for them. Showing I was happy.  I bite my lower lip in dismay.

He is giving me no chance to run away.
