“Please don't go.”
“Please don't go,” he said, holding my hand tightly when I tried to remove it from his hold. I ended up falling once again into his chest. My heart felt the tug as I looked at his stressed face. He was having a nightmare. I know how much he loved his mother and how hard it was for him to live without her. He was struggling every day of his life. My eyes welled up, remembering those days.
“Don't leave,'' he repeated again, pulling me more towards him. I ended up fighting on the couch. He buried his face in my chest while wrapping his hands around me, as if I would run away if he lost his grip. My heart hurts looking at how he was yearning for his mother's warmth. I pressed a kiss on his head and moved my hand on his back in soothing circles. Slowly, his body relaxed even more, and he stopped shivering.
“Don't leave me,” he mumbled for the last time before drifting into slumber. The couch was uncomfortable, but somehow, in his arms, I felt the comfort I had been searching for for a few days. I drifted up into sleep after a few minutes. We ended up falling asleep on that small couch. The next day, when I woke up, the sun's rays fell on my face. I took a deep breath, and his musky scent entered my nose. I felt something heavy on my chest. I slowly opened my eyes to find him sleeping on my chest like a baby, with both hands still wrapped around me. Last night, it flashed in front of my eyes. I slowly lifted my eyes and moved in his hair when he opened his eyes. His cold blue eyes clashed with mine. An unknown emotion flashed in front of his eyes. He immediately pushed himself away. I cleared my throat and sat up. He stood up and grabbed his blazer.
I kept looking at him, but he didn't even look at me before walking out of the room. No words were exchanged between us. He left me once again cold, making me feel the hollowness in my chest once again. I kept sitting there, thinking about what just happened. When I went to the room, he was already dressed in his new seat in his three-piece suit. Hair wet from the shower. His beard was overgrown, but it made him look even more handsome as a devil. He looked at me through the mirror. His cold blue eyes remained fixed on me, but he didn't utter a word. He kept watching me like a devil. He was once again ignoring me. I looked away and walked straight to the bathroom to get a shower. When I came out after the shower, he had already left for the office. My jaw clenched in anger. If he wants to keep ignoring me, then I'm not going to be the first one to talk with him. I will ignore him too. I got dressed in jeans and a smile-strapped top.
Today was Sage and Xanthus engagement. I carried my dress with me. I was going to get ready there. We made a few arrangements with strippers first. We had made sure to instruct them to avoid any inappropriate touching or kissing on the lips, even if the bride was drunk. Isabella knows that if her brother Xanthus comes to know that some random guy has kissed his bride, he will first kill him, and then it will be Isabella's turn. It was all for fun and enjoyment, nothing else. Once the preparations were done, I got ready for the party. I was wearing a cream-coloured gown with a slit on the left side that ended just a little above my knees. Sophia is going to do our makeup. She is Sage's best friend and a very good make-up artist. I came down with all the girls. I found him standing with guys and talking with them. He looked my way. His cold blue eyes travelled all over my frame. His jaw clenched even more when he saw the slit of my dress. I averted my eyes, not caring what he thought. I stayed with Isabella all the time. Soon the engagement party started, and then rings were exchanged. We had lots of fun there. We teased Xanthus, making fun of him at every chance we got. He kept standing with Xanthus, Alex, and Daniel at the bar. Everyone was dancing and enjoying themselves. His cold blue gaze never left me.
“Let's get them on the dance floor,” I told Isabella and Evelyn, looking at the guys. I pulled Daniel, and he came to the dance floor. Evelyn pulled Xanthus and her boyfriend to the floor. Erick refused to come on the dance floor when Isabella tried to drag him. I was dancing with Daniel while he kept looking at me while sipping his drink. I was enjoying myself when suddenly someone stepped on my food, making me wince in pain. There were stones on the straps of my heel. They got dug into my skin.
“Are you ok?” Daniel asked in concern, looking at my face.
“I think someone stepped on my foot,” I told him over loud music.
“Wait, let me check it,” Daniel said, pulling me a little away from the crowd when I nodded my head. He laid down and carefully removed my left heels.
“It has become red but doesn't seem serious,” he said while gently taking my foot in my hand. He slowly made circles to ease the pain in my foot. It made the pain slowly go away.
“Thank God, I thought I wouldn't be able to enjoy Sage's bachelorette with strippers.” I blurted it out with relief. His head immediately shot up when I said that. I covered my mouth. I was a bit tipsy, and it made me blur out like a stupid.
"Stripper,” he said, with a stoic look on his face.
“Please don't tell anyone. It's a secret,” I said while giving him pleading eyes.
“I won't tell anyone if you tell me whose idea it is,” he asked with that stoic expression still on his face. He has always been a stone. Not letting any emotions come to his face. Maybe because his profession requires it, but he has always been like that. I bit my lower lip. He raised his brows as if telling me he was still waiting for my answer.
"Isabella,” I whispered her name, praying he would hear it, but his ears heard me loud and clear. His jaw clenched, and brow furrowed. His facial expressions still remain stoned.
“I don't even know why I doubt my judgement,” I heard him whisper under his breath. He helped me wear the heels again.
“Everything is fine,” he said while standing up with a tight smile on his lip. I smiled at him and turned my head. My eyes clashed with the cold blue ones. His jaw was clenched in anger. Slime slipped from my face.
I have a feeling that nothing is fine.
