It hasn't stopped shaking till now.
“Doll,'' I heard a familiar voice calling my name, but my eyes were still glued to the glass wall where all the doctors were operating on my father. They were constantly trying to bring him back. I kept looking at them while sitting outside the emergency room. That blank still lingered in my glassy eyes.
"Doll.” A hand was out on my shoulder, and that warm touch broke the chains of my thoughts. My eyes slowly averted from the glass wall to the person who was sitting beside me. His cold blue eyes were still clad in worry when he looked at me. I don't know why he is worried. He knows I didn't have a good relationship with my father, and I don't care about him, so why was he still worried for me?
Do you don't care about your father?
My inner voice asked, and I should have answered that question without hesitation, but my tongue shook. I couldn't bring myself to answer it. The way he was looking at me made me feel so many things that I didn't want to feel. My eyes moved to Sabrina, who was sitting on his lap, still crying. Erick had one hand around her. Protectively holding her so she doesn't fall. Lilly was beside me with one hand wrapped around her shoulders. Her head was resting on my shoulder, but her eyes remained glued to the glass wall. I don't know how much time has passed, and we still keep waiting for doctors to come out. He sighed, looking at my face. The doctors stopped operating on my father and walked out of the emergency room. My body became alert. Lilly and I stood up immediately when the doctor walked out. Erick and Sabrina followed us.
“Doctor, what happened? How is he?” Lilly asked in her crying voice. The doctor pulled his mask away before answering us.
“His condition is stable now, but we can't say. The situation is still critical for a few hours,” he told us, and I saw Lilly taking a deep breath of relief. She closed her eyes and prayed for her lord. I thank him for saving my father.
“We are shifting him to the ICU,” the doctor said with a small smile on his face. I took a deep breath, and I didn't realise I was holding my breath.
“When can we meet him?” I found myself asking that question. I was surprised when those words fell out of my mouth. I don't know why I asked that question. I was never eager to meet my father. If possible, I was ready to avoid him for the rest of the rest of my life.
“If his vitals become stable, you can meet him. His body is still in shock. It will take some time for him to get stable,'' the doctor told us before walking away. My eyes once again moved to the glass wall. Different wires were attached to his chest, and an oxygen mask was placed on his nose. I felt a hand on my shoulder, and I was pulled to a warm chest. A lone tear slipped from my eyes, and I buried my face on that warm chest. Maybe that warm embrace was what I needed to break down. All the emotions I have been holding in my eyes started to fall from my eyes. A chest-wrenching sob left my mouth, and Erick held me with both his hands. My hushed sobs slowly turned into loud ones. Erick kept holding me tightly while I kept crying in his arms. He kept making soothing circles on my back while pressing a kiss on my head. He didn't say any comforting words to me, but he let me cry my heart out in his warm embrace. Lilly hugged me from behind, and Sabrina wrapped her hands around me on the other side. The silent sobs made me cry even more. I don't know how long we stayed like that. After some time, my father was shifted to the ICU. We all kept waiting outside of his room. His vitals became stable slowly. A nurse went to check on him, and we all kept waiting outside of his room. She came out with good news.
“Patient has regained his consciousness,” she said with a smile on her face, giving us relief.
“I will call the doctor,” she said and paged the doctor. We all kept waiting outside his room. The doctor came and checked on him and said he was stable now, but we still had to wait for some time because he was still in danger.
“He will get out of danger, right?” Sabrina asked with a wobbling lower lip when the doctor left. I looked at her with tear-filled eyes. She wanted an answer from me. A big lump was still there at the base of my throat. I nodded my head while wiping the tears that rolled down from my cheeks.
“He will,” I said timidly, assuring her. We can just hope. She gave me a teary smile and nodded her head with new determination.
“He will,” she said, repeating my words as if they were giving her more hope. We couldn't still go inside, so we waited outside the room. Lily was constantly tapping her feet in anxiety while wiping the tears rolling down her cheeks from the back of her hand. Her fingers fidget with each other. She is under so much stress. I know how much she loved my father. He is her everything. I can't even imagine the things she is going through. I covered her hand with mine in a tight grip, and it made her look at me. She sighed and then nodded her head. Erick had taken Sabrina to the canteen. She has not eaten anything. She was refusing to eat, but when I told her that dad wouldn't like it if she was sitting here with an empty stomach, That convinced her. Erick took her with him. They returned after some time with coffee for me and Lily. Lilly refused to take it, but I forced her. She needs a lot of strength if she wants to take care of her husband. I didn't know how long we waited outside. The nurse went inside his room and checked on him. She came out and told us his vitals were stable.
“He wants to meet his daughter,” she said while looking at us. My eyes widened.
“Sabrina, go inside. Dad wants to meet you,” I said immediately while looking at her. Lily held Subrina's hand and moved her head in. I raised my brows in confusion when she stopped. I was so surprised when she said the next thing.
“No, he is calling you inside, Grace.”
