Zena's POV

Yeira had me stop the truck a good distance from the house. I arched a brow, so she quickly got out. I followed her actions and ran after her. We climbed up the hills and traveled into the forest.

"What are we-"

"Shh!" She shushed me.

Yeira pointed me in a different direction. I walked around the trees and watched her gesture for me to look up. I did and had to cover my mouth. Sitting atop the branches was a sniper. He had his rifle pointed towards the house.

I went to grab Yeira's attention, but couldn't spot her. I then had an instinct and looked up. I watched her easily ascend the tree. She then silently crouched behind the man. Yeira then shot her hands out and cracked his neck. Yeira grabbed the rifle, so it wouldn't fall. She then laid his lifeless body down and peered around.

Yeira's eyes narrowed at a figure in the distance. She looked around before zooming from tree to tree. The man noticed and went to shoot, but she knocked him onto his back. She then clawed out his throat and grabbed his gun. Yeira stood up and used the scope of the gun to look around. She grinned before pulling the trigger and killing one in the opposite direction.

"That it?" I asked.

"Ya." She sped to my side. "Think we're good for now."

"No radios?" She shook her head. "They were waiting for us."

"In case we came here. They weren't wrong." Yeira chuckled. "We should be alright though."

The two of us nodded and made our way out the forest. We approached the house in the distance and continuously checked our surroundings until we were on the deck. I knocked on the door and stepped back. Yeira leaned against the doorframe whilst I rocked on my heels. I smiled when the door opened.

"Zena?"

"And Yeira." Yeira smirked.

"Aunite Hannah!" I gave her a tight hug.

(I know that the aunt and Yeira's mate have the same name. I was jst not that creative haha)

"Hey." She smiled and hugged me. "Hey, Yei." Yeira hugged her back. "What are you both doing here?"

"Well, we're on the run." Yeira spoke.

"And wanted to say hi to grandma!" I grinned.

"Come inside then." She grabbed us.

Yeira and I made a beeline to grandma. We shoved each other away before engulfing her in a hug. Grandma chuckled and cupped our faces.

"So what were you saying about being on the run?" Auntie Hannah questioned.

"We're being hunted for some reason. We don't know why. We were housed by the North American vampires and they led us here. We wanted to speak with mum."

"But, mum isn't in the shack." Yeira crossed her arms. "Where is she?"

"What do you mean she's not there?" Grandma asked. "She refused to leave that enclosure."

"We went there and couldn't find her." I answered.

"And her stuff is cold like she hasn't been there at all." Yeira added. "Also, how'd you allow her to live in that filth? It's nasty in there." She scrunched her nose. "The vampires in the military would be slaughtered for that type of mess."

"We tried to get her to leave." Hannah began. "But, she was so stubborn. Mom couldn't stay by herself at the house. And Brandon isn't capable of caring for her and his family, so I took her in. I tried to get Mia to move in as well, but she just wanted solitude."
