Min and Rae found themselves in the recording room. Rae sat on the couch, watching Min work, this time with the music playing over the speakers so Rae could listen along.
After seeing Agust D, she assumed all the music Min put together would be intense and rough, but the song he started playing was a softer beat. Min's vocals came in, his deep voice like honey as he softly hit the more difficult notes. He may have been a rapper, but his vocals were strong too. Rae closed her eyes as she listened.
Streets erased of footprints
I lie here, fallen to the ground
Time goes by on its own
Without a single apology, yeah
Min stopped the track and spun around to look at Rae with anticipation.
"What do you think of it so far?"
Rae still felt chills lingering on her arms from the song. "The lyrics pair beautifully with the track. Is this the one you were working on earlier?" Rae inquired.
Min nodded. "It will sound even better when I get Jungkook to do a rough track of the vocals, it's difficult to envision it without him singing."
"Don't get me wrong, Jungkook is an amazing singer, but I like hearing you sing. It's special, especially since you are the one writing the song. There is more passion and connection to the lyrics when you sing it. If I prefer a track with only your vocals, can you make that for me?"
He smiled. "You'd want that?" he asked.
Rae nodded. "Honestly, I think your fans would too."
Min's eyebrows furrowed as he held a look of contemplation. "I'll think about it. I actually think this song would be great as an acoustic. If I didn't have this," Min pointed to his shoulder, "I would play the guitar and sing it for you. Once I am all healed, maybe you can have the exclusive on it first, and if you still think it's good, maybe I will add it to an album of mine someday."
Rae was eager to accept his offer. "I'd like that." She stood up and started walking around the room, getting a better read on the awards that were on the shelves next to his desk.
"Writing and producing, is that your favorite thing to do in your spare time?" she asked.
"It's my favorite thing to do all the time. I write and produce every day. Even after all these years, it still feels surreal that I get paid to do what I have always loved."
"Isn't that the dream, though? Our hobbies and passions also becoming our livelihood? When you can combine the two, then it doesn't feel much like work," Rae said.
"Exactly. This," Min emphasized, spinning in his chair as he pointed to all the items in his recording room, "It's my dream. I will never tire of it."
"It's your passion," Rae whispered, her own comment giving her chills as she looked at Min's glowing face. When he talked about music, she noticed he would actually light up; she knew it meant the world to him, and she loved hearing him talk about it and watching him work.
Min nodded. "So much so that I don't really have any other hobbies. Eating, cooking, drinking, reading a book, watching a TV show or playing a game from time to time, sleeping, and music. That about sums me up." He smiled.
Rae couldn't help but chuckle. She now made the connection of the reference to him being called the Grandpa of BTS. She understood because she was the same.
