Rae sent a text to Ji-Sun, knowing full well that she would already be in a massive panic that Rae was going to be out late, but at least with the warning, she knew Ji-Sun wouldn't call the police to go searching for her. Rae immediately silenced her cell phone after sending the message and hid it away to avoid Min seeing the screen flashing with the onslaught of text messages she knew Ji-Sun would be sending back.
Min and Rae sat on the couch. Min leaned on the cushion with his good arm, propping himself up with a pillow underneath it. His fitted white shirt was sculpted to his body, and just as distracting as he was when he was previously shirtless.
Rae self-consciously tucked her hair behind her ears, certain that after the long work day and still being in her black scrubs, that she likely looked like a mess. She was hoping that the setting sun and dim lighting of Min's apartment would at least shield some of her end-of-the-day look.
Rae let out a sigh, trying to prepare herself for what Min might ask.
"OK, what is your first question?" Rae asked.
Min smiled, not even hesitating as he casually leaned his head into his hand to look fondly at Rae as he spoke. "Did you change your perfume?"
Rae felt her mouth gape and her cheeks flush at his first question. It somehow felt invasive that he had noticed the change. Rae had put on her new perfume for the first time today, but she didn't think Min had been observant enough to notice.
Rae gave a nervous chuckle. "You could hear me playing guitar over your incredibly loud shower, and you also noticed my new perfume? Do you have heightened senses or something?"
"Ahh, are you worried about my X-ray vision?" Min winked as he intensely looked Rae up and down. Rae knew he was joking, but she still somehow felt exposed to him. Min laughed as he leaned in, inhaling as he got closer to Rae. She felt herself freeze, her lungs unable to properly function with him so near. "Your perfume, it has mint in it, doesn't it?" Rae was still shocked by his accuracy. She nodded, confirming his question.
Min looked up at Rae as he pulled back, giving her space to breathe. "That is why I noticed it so quickly. Mint is my favorite scent."
Rae was in disbelief that the one time she bought herself perfume, it happened to be Min's favorite. She couldn't decide if she should be embarrassed or proud. "What first question do you have for me?" Min asked Rae.
Rae tried to focus as she began to narrow down the hundreds of questions swimming through her mind. What were the most important ones that she needed to address? After a pause and mulling over it for too long, Rae finally settled on the first question that came to her mind.
"Do you not like Christmas?" Rae blurted out her odd question, but she was genuinely wanting to know.
"I like Christmas," Min said, his eyes flickering with curiosity. "Last year I even sang "Jingle Bell Rock" with Taehyung-ah and danced with a candy cane." Min laughed as he recalled the memory. "Why do you ask?"
Rae's lips pursed to the side as she continued to dig at the question. "Christmas is next week, and you don't even have a Christmas tree set up," she pointed out, motioning to the bare-boned living room.
Min let out a short laugh. "I've never been one for decorating, or for having guests, I hadn't really thought about putting up a Christmas tree just for me to see."
Rae knew Min's tone didn't point to sadness, but his answer did inadvertently expose one thing, and that was that Min was used to being alone.
Rae gave a small smile. "That is exactly why you should put one up! Ever since I was little, Christmas trees have been my favorite part of the holiday. They make every night of the Christmas season feel so magical." Rae paused, and let out a chuckle as she thought about her family back at home and the reasons they had made Christmas special to her.
