It had been two days since Min's job offer. Ji-Sun had spent the last 48 hours pressuring Rae to say yes. She had gone as far as to involve Miles, who had joined in on the pestering. Min however had not said another word about it. After making the offer, Min told Rae there was not a rush to give him an answer. He assured her that she had time to think it over and consider what would be best for her.
Rae had been flattered at the proposition of working for BigHit, working with Min, and she knew he had been thoughtful to even consider making her the offer, so Rae didn't know why she felt torn. Maybe it was the prospect of leaving a job that had treated her well for the last two years. Maybe it was taking the leap of traveling with the other members. Maybe it was that it felt too good to be true; not having to be apart from Min. The last few weeks, Rae had dreams come true that she didn't know could exist - could being alongside Min, even through his demanding schedule, truly be an option?
Or there was the other fear - the one that was more likely the reason for her hesitation than them all - would Min tire of her? Rae lived and breathed Min. As soon as they were apart, Rae was eager to be with Min. But would that be a phase? Could these feelings really not be fleeting? Would they remain?
Min admitted to being a recluse, and that he preferred to be alone. Rae had been the same, not requiring much socialization and easily getting burned out if she gave too much. They were both introverts. And as much as they enjoyed each others company now, Rae couldn't ignore the very real fear that Min might change his mind. He might get sick of her. And then where would that leave her?
Rae reprimanded herself at even entertaining such nonsense. She knew Min cared for her and loved her, and she knew she loved him too. Irrational fears were eating away at her, and she didn't want to let her worries win. But being in a relationship with someone as perfect as Min, it made it difficult for Rae to feel she measured up. Not any fault of Min's, but just from the nature of who he was to so many people - the world at his fingertips, and that Rae was what he chose.
Rae knew she needed a confidence boost, and she needed it fast to drive out her insecurities. She needed to cling to Min's actions, his words, and not the fake whispers in her subconscious trying to scare her.
Rae didn't want to jeopardize their relationship. She needed Min. She was certain that working together would prove that they were either made for each other, or. . . Rae didn't want to consider the other option. But she knew it was there, even if she didn't admit it. And committing to the job, signing the contract, Rae would be putting her relationship on the line. She would be sealing their fate, one way or the other, and she wrestled with the idea of being ready for that. For the commitment or the heartbreak.
As Rae took care of some medial house chores while Ji-Sun was out running errands, she talked with Lorena and Steve. Rae was relieved to hear her parents were doing well, both of them enjoying the colder weather. They updated her on Miles and how he was in less pain with each passing day. Rae overheard Miles complaining about the news dying down about him, how the paparazzi's weren't even trying to follow him anymore. Before Rae could reprimand her self-centered egotistical brother, Chang-Woo rang on the other line, and Rae gladly fumbled to end the call with her family to answer her boss.
Rae's throat suddenly became dry with nerves as she answered. "Hello?" she croaked.
"Oh, Rae! Thank you! Thank you for answering!" Chang-Woo huffed on the line.
"Is everything OK?" Rae asked, her concern growing as she noted it was still only eight in the morning, on a Saturday; on New Year's Eve.
"Well. . . your patient who wasn't supposed to be your patient, Myung-Hee?" Chang-Woo
