The scenes from the night before were playing on repeat in Rae's head. The events of the hot tub, then the shower, to the bed. The tender whispers of affirmations and "I love you's" exchanged, that Rae would never tire of hearing.
Last night had been nothing short of exceptional. Rae had been a bundle of nerves at many points of the night, but each time she felt herself getting anxious, Min would be there to reassure her, to calm her, and to take care of her. He effortlessly led and executed flawless self-control that left Rae more head over heels than before. She also quickly realized he lived up to his "Bad Boy" nickname, and she was selfishly elated by it.
Rae had woken up first, the art piece that was Min, sprawled peacefully across her sheets. Rae was happily enveloped as she studied Min's bare face, counted the rising and falling of his chest with his perfectly quiet and even breaths, and daydreamed about the dark eyes currently masked by his beautiful long eyelashes. His persona was intoxicating, and the scent of him in her sheets made her dizzy.
The morning sunlight caught the silver of Min's earrings, drawing her attention to Min's neck, then to his shoulder that now displayed the faintest scar, to his exposed back as he slept on his stomach. Rae felt herself blush as she recalled kissing every inch of Min's back a few hours earlier, treating it like her canvas. Then her face went red as she recalled the things Min did to her body, making her shiver at the memory of his lips gracing places she had never imagined they would.
Min was already perfect, exactly the way he was. But last night reaffirmed for Rae how perfect life could be with Min - with each other. If she would continue to let her guard down with him, Rae knew she would never need to search for happiness elsewhere. She had found it, and the only fear she had was losing it.
Rae quietly slipped out of bed, not wanting to disturb Min. Rae found a t-shirt and boxer shorts to put on before making her way to the kitchen. She hoped to surprise Min with breakfast this time around.
Rae rummaged through the cupboards and fridge and began to cut up some fruit, then she started working on some pancakes from a mix she found in the pantry.
As she was flipping the last pancake, Rae startled as soft hands wrapped around her waist, warm fingers slipping underneath her shorts to rub against her bare skin. Min's groggy, low voice mumbled in Rae's ear.
"I was worried I may have scared you away."
Rae held back a smirk as she stacked the final pancake on top of the rest. "These two feet aren't going anywhere without you," she assured him.
Min let out a soft sound of satisfaction. "That's what I was hoping you'd say." Min's hands gripped Rae's waist as he spun Rae to face him, hoisting her upper thighs to wrap her legs around his waist, and smoothly setting Rae on the countertop, his hands now resting on her bare knees. Min's hair had fallen in front of his eyes, and Rae couldn't resist the urge to run her fingers through the chaos, smoothing it back to see his handsome face, her hands drawing circles on his chest.
"Good morning, Oppa," Rae teased, fighting back a smile.
"Oppa, huh?" Min leaned in, pressing a long kiss on Rae's eager lips. "Are you already trying to drive me to insanity this morning?" Min asked in a deep growl, his nose trailing along Rae's neck.
Rae lightly laughed as his lips fell to her collarbone. "I was trying to make you some breakfast. I didn't expect you to be awake yet."
Min pulled back enough to make Rae's head stop spinning and allow her to think of something other than his lips. "Nim woke me up," he said plainly with an aloof look in his eyes.
Rae straightened up, pushing Min back as she hopped off the counter to stand next to him. "What did he say?"
Min shrugged. "Same as yesterday. Not to look at the news and to stay off social media. He said they have secured your apartment and he will bring by your phone later today, but he thinks we should still stay here one more day until the media has something new to obsess about."
"Have you heard from the boys? How are they handling it? I'm sure this has drawn a spotlight on them too," Rae inquired, realizing she hadn't been selfless enough to think about how it may be impacting the other members.
Min gave a quick smile. "They are relieved one of us is finally being brave enough to take this step in the public eye. The other members are more than used to the press being focused on them, you don't need to worry. They have been more worried about you than anything else," Min confirmed and Rae's heart sank.
"They've been worried about me?" she whispered.
Min nodded, sneaking a quick taste of the steaming pancake. "It's not like you asked for a popstar boyfriend. You haven't had to deal with this before. They have been worried about whether you are handling everything all right. We know the pressures of it a bit too well, and we were able to handle the fame gradually. For you, we realize it is all happening at once." Min reached down to take Rae's hand, holding it to his chest as he caught her eyes. "Are you OK? Are you feeling overwhelmed?" Min whispered, genuinely wanting to know.
Rae hesitated, uncertain how to answer. Was it wrong of her to say she was OK? Was she not supposed to be all right? She had done what Nim asked and had been without a phone for 24 hours. She had no idea what was being said about her or Min, and deep down, she didn't care. The only person's opinion about her that mattered was Min's.
"Is it awful of me that I hadn't given it much thought yet? Ji-Sun and my family are OK, you are here with me, and nothing feels much different, aside from excused one-on-one time with you, which I definitely won't complain about. I'm sure I will get a taste of some of the less appealing sides of our relationship being known, but you told me to trust you, and I do. I trust that you'll keep me safe, we will adapt, and I am confident I can tune out all the unnecessary voices. All I want to hear and see is you," Rae confessed.
Min's eyes danced with a smile. "Your answer just added more reasons as to why I am in love with you. Hananim, you're amazing, you know that, sunshine?"
Rae felt her body electrify at the admission of Min's feelings. Rae also had to acknowledge that the intermingling of Korean with Min's English also contributed to the tingling sensation rippling through her. It was one of Rae's favorite things that he did.
Min tore off another piece of pancake. "You're also a talented cook, in case you didn't know," Min winked, taking the plate of pancakes to the table while Rae gathered the fruit.
"That's a high compliment coming from you," Rae pointed out as she sat down, her eyes trying not to focus on the black pair of Calvin Klein boxers Min was wearing at the table.
"Would you mind helping me cook again tonight?" Min asked, casually dishing up a plate for Rae.
"What's on the menu?" Rae inquired.
Min's eyes remained focused on his plate as he spoke between bites of an apple. "Being in the mountains has me craving BBQ," Min said.
"That does sound fitting for the setting. Do we have meat?" Rae asked, fairly certain she didn't see anything for grilling in the refrigerator.
Min shook his head. "We don't, but my brother is going to bring some."
Rae suddenly lost her appetite as she processed Min's sentence. "Your...brother?"
Min let a mischievous grin escape his lips, his eyes twinkling with delight. "Mm-hmm. How would you feel about having my family over for dinner tonight?"
