The sun was beginning to rise as Min and Rae walked hand in hand onto the jetway. Rae had already felt a taste of luxury in first-class flying back to the States. Thanks to Min's connections, Rae would now get a taste of a private jet.
Min escorted Rae inside, taking a seat in an oversized comfy chair that also reclined all the way back. Being able to sleep on such a long flight again felt spoiling to Rae, and she wasn't going to complain. She wasn't certain how much sleep she would be getting however, with Min distracting Rae in the seat next to her.
Rae had assumed Min would want to sleep most of the flight, but as soon as they made it onto the plane, he pulled out his laptop and placed headphones over his ears, eager to compose and produce another song. Rae was amazed that even with how little time he had to himself in Montana, he had managed to put together rough drafts of three songs. His mind so easily focused on writing and producing, and Rae was in awe that with every single thing he put together, it sounded like a hit. Rae knew Min loved it, but she was truly beginning to see that he lived and breathed his work. His passion was inspiring.
At about mid-flight, Min's laptop had died, and Rae offered to let Min borrow hers until his had recharged, a decision Rae immediately regretted. As Min opened the laptop, he spotted all the patient charts that had been left open on Rae's computer, and he zoned in on one title.
MIN YOONGI
"I can read my own chart, can't I?" His eyebrows shot up with intrigue and mischief as he opened the tab, and Rae's cheeks flooded with embarrassment as he began to read her notes.
Rae covered her eyes in worry, letting her fingers slightly open to peek at Min's reaction, and she was met with something she hadn't expected: laughter. Genuine laughter.
Min cocked one of his perfectly groomed eyebrows at Rae, his dark eyes dancing with delight. "I was that moody, huh?" he inquired.
Rae felt her face become hot. She wasn't allowed to go back and edit notes after they were input, so she hadn't had a chance to correct some of her earliest entries that may have painted Min in a not-so-great perspective.
Rae winced as Min laughed again, and she knew she had to apologize. "I'm so sorry, that was..."
Min held up a hand to stop Rae. "When I was being moody. You described me perfectly. I regretfully wasn't the most warm and fuzzy patient when we first met. I'm just glad you stuck around long enough to change your mind about me," Min reassured Rae, smiling as he exited the tab.
"You're not upset?" Rae clairifed.
Min bit his bottom lip. "Not in the slightest. I want to be with someone that can call me out when I need to be called out. I may be an introvert, but it doesn't mean I expect you to be reserved. Always speak your mind, beautiful, I can take it," he said, his sideways grin sending chills down Rae's spine.
Rae couldn't wipe her own slap-happy grin that had spread across her face as Min took Rae's hand and brushed a soft kiss against her trembling fingers.
"You hungry?" he asked, closing the laptop to hand it back to Rae. Rae nodded, and Min ushered the stewardess over to assist them.
The food on the private jet was somehow even better than the food offered to Rae in first-class, most of it being at a level of fine dining. The exquisite meals that had filled Rae's stomach into a full state of bliss had also made her tired, and before she knew it, she was sleeping for the remainder of the flight.
Rae woke up to Min gently shaking her shoulder, his eyes pleading for forgiveness as Rae stirred from her unintentional slumber. The flight went by much faster with Min, and before they knew it, they had landed back in Korea.
Min smiled as he tucked a piece of Rae's lose hair behind her ear. "Welcome back, sunshine. I'll get your bags. Take your time, I'll meet you at the end of the jetway when you're ready."
Rae followed Min's encouragement, visiting the bathroom to brush her teeth and fix her hair before exiting the plane, where Min waited patiently for Rae at the end of the jetway in the freezing cold air, not seeming one bit bothered by her delay.
As Rae approached Min, he ushered her into the airport, taking shelter from the weather. As soon as they entered the building, Min's phone began to ring with an incoming call.
"WOOSUNG"
Min grinned and looked up at Rae. "Is it all right if I take this call?"
Rae nodded and Min hurriedly answered.
"Mm, how are you, Woosung? Ah, where have I been? I was in Montana." Min chuckled as Woosung replied. "I'm sorry I didn't visit, and to answer your question, yes, there is something very important in Montana," Min said, raising his eyebrows at Rae as he winked.
A few seconds passed, and Min started to laugh at something Woosung said. Then his eyes suddenly became very serious as he listened intently, slowly nodding his head and grunting in what Rae struggled to decipher as agreement or disagreement. Min's eyebrows had knitted together in what looked like concern, and his voice dropped quiet and low as he replied.
"I understand, I hope you get the justice you and the boys deserve. I'm sorry, Woosung, that you are going through that right now."
Woosung continued in his reply, and Min's stern expression began to soften as he let out another laugh. "Don't worry, 2023 isn't far off. It'll be here before we know it. Mm-hmm. I look forward to it. I'll catch you next time, brother."
Min hung up the phone, sliding his Samsung into the pocket of his bag.
"Everything OK?" Rae inquired, walking alongside Min as they made their way to Nim who was waiting outside the airport for them at a private exit.
Min nodded. "That was my friend, Woosung. He lives in L.A. We had planned to collaborate with each other this next year, but his band is in a lawsuit with the company that represents them. He has to put it on hold until things get worked out," Min explained.
"I see, I'm sorry you aren't able to collaborate sooner, I'm sure you were looking forward to it."
Min let out a fast sigh. "I was, but there is always another time. We will get the opportunity, maybe not this year, but someday."
Min's phone began to ring again, and Rae snickered. "We have been on Korean soil for ten minutes and it's like everyone knows you have service again," Rae joked.
"You aren't wrong, when I am away for quite some time, I do tend to be greeted with a flood of messages and calls. I'm sorry," Min apologized as he pulled out his phone, this time the caller I.D. displaying a familiar name.
"NIM"
Min slide the answer button. "Nim, you do know patience is a virtue, right?" Min teased, but Rae could hear a rush of panic from Nim's voice. Min's face went white as he listened, and his eyes looked at Rae's with an emotion she hadn't seen Min display before: worry. Min looked truly troubled and Rae felt her heart rate increase just at the sight of it.
Before Rae could inquire if everything was all right, Rae's phone started ringing too, and Ji-Sun's name appeared on the screen, followed by an enslaught of messages from Miles and Lorena.
"What is going on..." Rae stepped slightly away from Min to take the call to give him space to continue talking to Min.
"I'm back, Ji-Sun," Rae said to reassure her friend of her safe arrival.
"RAE! You BROKE the freaking internet! Literally, BROKE it! Twitter, Instagram, all of it!" Ji-Sun screamed.
"What do you mean?" Rae asked in a panic, confused from Ji-Sun's rushed words.
"Look at your messages, NOW! Your secret is out, Rae-Bae. The world knows your Min Yoongi's girlfriend."
Rae's stomach dropped, and she immediately knew what Nim was discussing with Min.
