--- Stella's Point of View ---
I was pacing around the living room, I was so lost in thought, it had been a while since Rooster left, and I was sick to my stomach with nerves.
I was submitting to my husband by letting him take lead on telling Hangman about us, but a part of me felt off about it, unsettled even, I felt like I owed Hangman an apology for this.
I know that I am well within my right to not be with Hangman and my guilt was somewhat absurd, he has picked everything and everyone aside from me and I needed some stability, for me and Aurora, and Rooster offered that – in so many ways.
The guilt that I was feeling is from making the stupid choice to go to Hangman when he returned, I should have not walked towards that carnival of red flags. I could be a moron sometimes.
I looked over at my daughter, sitting in her high chair coloring with some crayons having a good old time, she was using the big ones because she was still working on her dexterity – it amazed me how hard it was to master.
The door opened and Rooster walked in.
"Dada..." Aurora exclaimed, he smiled at her, I saw that he was holding what looked like take out from our favorite Chinese restaurant.
"I thought you might be needed something good for your nerves and I don't think either one of us would want to cook."
I smiled at him sincerely, my anxiety dissipating he was always so thoughtful, we walked to the kitchen, he walked over and kissed our daughter on her head, she smiled but went right back to coloring.
"How was it?"
He gave me a soft easy look as he started to unpack the food from the bag and set them out on the counter while I grabbed plates and glasses.
"About as well as you expect, he looked like if he could move off of the bed he would strangle me."
My heart thudded painfully at hearing that he really couldn't get off of the bed, remembering that he had been shot.
"Did he look okay?" I stammered, he reached out and cupped my cheek making me look directly at him.
"He did look hurt but he's going to be alright, you don't need to worry about that..." He looked at our daughter.
"Let's have a quiet night in, I want to spend some time with my girls."
--- Hangman's Point of View ---
"Did you know?" I deadpanned asking Maverick, it just took one look at him to see the guilt in this expression to know that he did.
"I'm sorry Jake."
I gave him a smile. "It's alright, I know how much you care about Rooster."
He shifted from one foot to the other, I knew that he wanted to say something and I simply waited patiently for him to come out with it.
"Perhaps you should leave them alone from now on."
I gave him a smile, and I saw the discerning look on his face when he saw my expression, good I wanted to unsettle him.
"Yeah you know I'm not going to do that, you don't' have to stay with me anymore if you don't want to, thank you for watching out for me."
"Jake..."
"Please leave."
I looked away from him and after a moment I heard him leave, I knew that I had to heal before seeing out my Amethyst, so for the time being, yes, I'll leave them alone – for now.
