chapter 27

Carter's pov

I'm finally back in bed, my beautiful mate is snuggled into me. Her head on my chest, she was worried after I rushed out the room when josh mindlinked me saying he needed help. Seeing him In so much pain was horrible, I couldn't see any physical reason for him to be in so much pain so I knew it had to be kayleigh,  even though they're not mated yet the bond is strong enough that his wolf would feel pain from her. As soon as evie said kayleigh was in a bad way my heart sank for him. Josh isn't only my alpha he's my best friend. He's like the brother I never had and seeing him hurt so much was heartbreaking. Once he left I come home and Emily had a look of fear and worry. I climbed into bed and pulled her close, I don't know what I would do if anything happened to her

"Is she okay?" Emily looks at me full of concern when I explain what just happened

"I don't know. Josh said she was in surgery and he'll update me"

I kiss her head "come on let's try and get some sleep"

I close my eyes and try to sleep but my mind is in over drive, something doesn't feel right but I can't figure out why. I lie in bed for hours, listening to Emily sleeping next to me and watching the sun slowly rise as the light shines through the window. I check the time and see it's 7am. I decide to get up and get ready for the day instead. I reluctantly pull away from my mate and get dressed before heading downstairs for a coffee and breakfast. I sit in silence but something doesn't feel right still. My wolf is on edge, I look outside and don't see anything out of place. I mind link the warriors to see if they've seen anything but they said its all clear..

I don't trust it since we saw that rouge just dissappear in front of us, there was no scent to him and it was really odd. I decide to call a pack meeting to discuss the sighting of rouges. Me and josh planned to say chloe must of had a running in with some along the way.

It's 11am and everyone is in the hall of the pack house we use for meetings, everyone is seated and waiting. I stand at the front of the room

"good morning everyone. As you're probably aware. Alpha josh has left to attend to some business so he won't be here for the time being and has left me in charge. On that note I'd like to bring it to attention on the sighting of rouges"

I hear people whispering among themselves. 

"We have been in close contact with another pack who has information and we're working closely with them. There has been an increase in rouge attacks this is a concern for our pack but also chloe who is still missing"

I look over to chloes parents "john, sue. Have you heard anything yet"

Sue begins to cry and john addresses the room "unfortunately not beta, this is really out of character for chloe and Sue is certain something has happened to her. Please bring our girl home soon "

"We still have men trying to find her but unfortunately we can't trace her scent. Is there anywhere chloe would go? Family, friends, even another pack?"

John is quiet while he thinks "no, we have a little cabin around 3 hours from here on an unclaimed land but I went there. There's no sign or her" john starts crying and I remain calm

"Okay, as some are aware the alphas sister left the pack last year. She is safe in a town a few hours from here, chloe might of been able to find her. I'll send some men that way and send an alert to the packs near by to see if they see her. She might be lost of injured but we won't give up"

John and Sue smile sadly At me "so back to the rouges, Steve and Harrison spotted something a few days ago, we found a rouge that had no scent and was able to get away from the alpha. We don't know how he done it but he's quick and strong. We've mad the decision to up the guards around here so don't be alarmed if you see more activity. So make sure doors and windows are locked at all times if you see anything suspicious you contact me or one of the guards ASAP. Okay?"

"Yes beta"

"No one is be alone and do not enter the woods unless given permission and you're with me, Alpha Josh or a guard okay?"

"Yes beta"

"Right, that's all. Everyone is dismissed.  Enjoy your day and stay safe"

Everyone starts standing up and leaving the room, I tell Steve to hang back for a minute after everyone left to go over a plan about chloe. We decide to send a few men down that way in a few days.

"Carter!!!" Emily screams in my head

"What's wrong!"

"House now!"

I'm out the door and rushing to my house. I push the door open and see Emily in the kitchen, she's facing me and then I see the knife to her throat. The man from the woods has Emily pressed against him, an arm around her neck holding the knife.

"Let her go!!"

He smiles at me "I don't think so beta"

I try and calm myself so I don't make him angry. I scream at josh through the mindlink but I get nothing.

"Okay" I hold my hands up and step back away from them, Emily's eyes widen but I focus on him

"It's Stuart isn't it?"

I see the shock hit him before he's calm again "why does it matter?!"

"I've been talking to Carl and collin brown ? The alpha and beta from your old pack they told me what happened"

"No they didn't!! I bet they told you i was always challenging them right? They didn't say why though did they ?!"

I can't hide the confusion and he laughs "you see, my grandfather once ruled the sapphire pack"

My eyes widen, he was the rightful alpha!

He slowly nods his head "yep. That's right beta, my father was the next to the title and then me. Expect Carl's uncle took it all away!! He raised Carl and collin like his own after their father died so he gave the title to Carl when he come of age. He killed my grandfather and my father to take the title! I was only 5 when I lost my father" a tear falls down his cheek

"Oh goddess, Stuart I didn't know that" I take a small step closer to them

"Of course you didn't!! He wouldn't tell you that! He makes out Like I'm a mad man!"

"So why have you been attacking theses packs? Why not settle it with the sapphire pack? "

He's confused for a moment " what? What other packs. I haven't attacked packs, I have my own pack now, I found other lost and broken rouges and I took them in and become the alpha I was always meant to be"

My head is now spinning I'm confused. I don't know what to make of all this. "Why did you kill our alpha then? You killed our alpha in a random attack!"

I feel the anger build and he raises his eye brow "random attack?" He starts laughing "it wasn't a random attack. He deserved it!"

"how!!? He was a dam good man!! He was an alpha, husband and father! He or his family and pack didnt deserved to have him ripped away like that"

"He killed my daughter beta!! She was only 19! She accidentally wondered off and come into your land , he killed her so I killed him. Simple"

I'm quiet again, I push to link josh but it's no use, I can't contact shannon anymore as she isn't part of our pack. I mind link Steve and quickly tell him we have an hostage situation and need back up ASAP

"Stuart,  fuck man I'm so sorry"

He shrugs his shoulders "when he took her from me I promised I'd do anything to ruin this pack. I did come for your alpha but seems like he isn't here so what better way to hurt your pack than to kill the betas mate and pup and have you go insane from heart break, I'll take the alphas mate as soon as I find out who she is, he'll be heartbreak and he will meet the same fate as you" he laughs "I'll sit back and watch as your pack crumbles! No alpha, beta or future alpha your pack will fall apart"

Emily cries as he digs the knife into her neck .
