Prove herself, that was always what (Y/n) had wanted to do; and when Legolas had been informed that she could not be found in the palace, he knew that there was only one place she would be. The prince quickly getting some of his men and making his way out into the woods, hoping that he could find his sister, before something bad happened. It wasn't that he doubted her, for one so young, (Y/n) was already skilled with bow and sword; and one day, she might even be as good as him, if not better. But for now, she still had so much to learn, and that was why she knew that she must stay within the safety of the palace; why she must stay under the watchful eyes of her tutors, her maids and guards. Yet this had not been the first time that (Y/n) had managed to evade all those that their father had protecting her; not the first time that she had ventured into the darkness of the woods, alone. The elleth even good enough to have evaded him, on more than one occasion; the elven prince only hoping that when he found her, she would be safe and well, and he could get her home before their father was informed that she had once again gone against his wishes. Though as he heard a sudden scream come from the gloom, he had a feeling that returning her home, safe and well, was not on the cards.

                                                      >>-------------------------------------<<

"Healers! Get the healers..........!" Legolas shouted, as he made his way back into the palace with the unconscious younger elleth in his arms. The inhabitants of the woodland realm quickly stepping out of the way, as their prince moved with all haste through the halls.

"And the king.......Inform the king that the princess has been bitten......." The prince continued. An ellon bowing respectfully, before quickly making his way to the throne room. Legolas hating the notion of telling their father what his sister had done; but given that (Y/n) was lucky to still be alive after being bitten by one of the spiders that haunted the woods, he knew he had no other choice. The prince only hoping that the wound was not as bad as it seemed, and before long she would be doing all she could to once more prove herself to him and their father.

                                                   >>----------------------------------<<

Legolas looked at his father as he sat on the side of the bed; his long fingers delicately stroking his daughter's hair. Thranduil had always been far softer with (Y/n), far kinder; he was the ellon that he had been before their mother's death when in her presence. The king seeming to keep a special smile just for her; and the prince had an awful feeling that if (Y/n) were to die from this, or anything else, then that last little bit of warmth that remained in their father's heart, would be gone forever.

"She is so much like your mother. The same heart, the same spirit. The same stubbornness and desire to prove herself. If I did not know better, I would say that there was dwarven blood in her veins." Thranduil said quietly, his eyes not moving from his unconscious child, as Legolas used a damp cloth to cool his sibling's brow.

The healers had done all they could for the princess, assuring the two ellons that (Y/n) would live, yet she was still unconscious and would have to battle the poison that was making its way through her body.

"I remember the day that she was born........." Thranduil continued, as he took his daughter's hand.

"She was so small, so delicate. I believed that she would break if I touched her. And when your mother placed her in your arms, I was sure that I had never seen you more nervous, or happier.........." The king continued, a small smile pulling at his own lips, as he recalled the moment, centuries before; how the birth of (Y/n) had made their family perfect. Thranduil having silently vowed that he would not let anything happen to either of his children, yet here they were, his beautiful daughter fighting against the wickedness that had cursed the once great Greenwood.

"I remember too; mother laughed at us both when she saw how apprehensive we were to touch (Y/n). She said that (Y/n) might be small now, but when she grew, she would prove that she was far stronger than she appeared; and she has. She has proved that she is as capable as any other; and when she wakes up, I know that she will want to prove herself again..........."

"That, and she will have everyone in the palace, including us, wanting to do everything for her. I am not blind to the love that your sister inspires in others, nor to the number of ellons that wish to show that they are worthy of her hand, and doting on her as she recovers, I am sure, will make them believe that they are one step closer to achieving their goal. Yet the time to lose her has not yet come. There are centuries ahead of her where I am sure that she will do her best to show me that she is not some delicate flower that needs to be protected in the palace; that she is a fighter, just like your mother was; before her eye falls upon some undeserving male..........." Thranduil interrupted. Legolas seeing the determination in his father's eye; a determination not to lose (Y/n) just yet, but also a resignation as to the fact that one day, there would come someone that would not only take his daughter's heart but may even take her from his kingdom. The prince also having to admit that he hated the thought of that; the idea that one day he and his sibling may be parted. But just like his father, he would take whatever time the gods gave him with (Y/n), and that time would start now. A small smile coming to his lips, as his sister's eyes began to slowly open. Her hands gripping tightly to those of her father and brother, before she softly said their names. The princess once more showing that, even though she probably knew she would be in trouble for disobeying her father, when she recovered, she was her mother daughter; and no matter what Thranduil or Legolas might say, it would always be her goal to prove herself to them. And woe betide any spider that may come her way, the next time she managed to escape the palace.
