If (Y/n) hadn't been annoyed with Thorin before, she certainly was now. The one who would be king giving neither her nor her brother any credit for keeping the trolls occupied until Gandalf could crack the rock, and let the sunlight flood the small piece of open ground, where the odious creatures had been trying to make supper of the Company. The dwarrowdam storming passed the son of Thráin as Gandalf followed his nose to the troll hoard. (Y/n) almost being sick as they came to the cave, finally believing that she had found something that smelled worse than a Company of male dwarves. The sound of what she was sure must be thousands of flies, filling the air, as they all just stood there for a moment, before daring to step foot in the cave.
"What's that stench........?" (Y/n) heard a voice from behind her enquire, as she followed Gandalf down the slight slope. The dwarrowdam pleased her footing was surer than most, as she hated the idea of slipping on or in anything nasty.
"It's a troll hoard.......be careful what you touch." Gandalf simply replied. (Y/n) rolling her eyes slightly at the comment, not knowing who in their right minds would want to touch anything at all, in a place like that. The dwarrowdam trying her best to hold her breath as the dwarves all coughed and retched; the foul odour seeming to seep into their very skin.
Suddenly (Y/n) stopped, everything around her seeming to fade into the darkness. Her eyes closing as she heard a noise.........no.......a voice. A voice that was calling out her name. Her booted feet pulling her along, drawing her to a spot a little further in the cave. (Y/n)'s eyes opening when the soft voice told her to, something bright; something silvery and perfect peeking out from the dirt and gathered piles of things. The dwarrowdam slowly crouching down and moving the cobwebs out of the way; a small gasp leaving her lips, as she took the item into her hands, to discover that it was an exquisitely fashioned dagger, with an equally wonderous necklace of such a delicate and intricate design, she was sure that only the elves could have fashioned it, wrapped around the sheath.
"My love.............." A voice suddenly said, (Y/n) looking up to find that what was before her was no longer the solid stone wall of a cave, but a beautiful scene. A moon illuminated folly that was surrounded by creeping tendril of ivy and the most perfect of night blooming flowers, (Y/n) sure that she could smell the honeysuckle and jasmine. And then.....then a dwarf appeared; the same handsome, strong dwarf that she had seen in her dream the night before. A smile coming to his lips as he held out his hands. The dwarrowdam gasping again, as a beautiful female rushed towards him. The dwarf taking her hands and bringing them to her lips.
"You are even more lovely than the last time I saw you." The dwarf said. A blush coming to the much taller female's cheek, at his words.
"And you.....you are more handsome, my prince." The female replied, before leaning in, to place a kiss to his lips.
"I have something for you." She continued, before reluctantly pulling her hands away and reaching up to her neck, slowly removing something, before holding it up in front of the dwarf.
"No. I cannot ask this of you............"
"You are not asking it of me, I am giving it to you freely. I have no desire to live in this world without you. No desire to go to the Undying Lands, if I cannot spend forever with you by my side. I know what it is to live without you, what it is to be alone, and I will not do it again. I care not if you are a dwarf and I an elf. I care not for what our peoples, our families will say; for all that matters is our hearts, and I love you............" The elleth said. (Y/n) feeling a tear make its way down her cheek as she watched the she-elf place a pendant and chain around the dwarf's neck.
"And I love you." The dwarf replied, before drawing something from his belt. (Y/n)'s heart beating at a pace, as she saw that it was the dagger that she now held in her hand.
"This is made from mithril, mined and fashioned by my own hands for purest metal at the heart of Khazad-dûm. It bares on it the seal of my kin and will keep you safe the next time that you journey to the Mountains. For I desire no ill will to befall you, as I intend to tell my father that we are to be married; and if he banishes me for who my heart has chosen, we will find a place of our own in this world; for I will not be without you." The dwarf told her, as he placed the ornate sheathed dagger in her hands. The pair looking at one another for a moment, before they both kissed.........."
"(Y/n).........?"
"(Y/n).......what is it you have there?" The new voice came. (Y/n) looking down at the items in her hand.
"A mithril dagger, fashioned in Khazad-dûm. And the necklace of an elleth........" The dwarrowdam replied without thinking; without knowing with whom she was even speaking. The visions leaving her head, as she felt a hand carefully fall on her shoulder. (Y/n) turning quickly, to see Gandalf looking down at her.
"How do you know that..........?" The wizard continued, looking between her tear-streaked cheeks, and the items in her hand.
"I.........I saw them. A dwarf and an elleth in a moonlit folly. The she-elf gave the necklace to the dwarf; and the dwarf, the dagger to the elleth. They were in love Gandalf. So, in love. Ready to defy everything to be together." (Y/n) explained. The wizard's brows furrowing, as another tear made its way down her cheek.
"We will speak of this later, my dear. But for now, why don't you hide those in you pocket............"
"But I can't take them......they do not belong to me..........."
"I think they do, my dear. Now, lets join the others outside." Gandalf replied with a soft smile. (Y/n) just nodding and placing the dagger and necklace into the pocket inside her coat, before the wizard placed his arm around her shoulder and walked her back out of the cave.
