He had been called 'Lionheart' before; but at this moment, he didn't feel exceptionally brave or courageous. What he felt was a heady mixture of fear, uncertainty, unworthiness and sadness. Fili doubting anything and everything that he had ever known or had been taught, as he looked out over the plain where the Battle of the Five Armies had been fought; and up to Ravenhill, where is uncle and brother had been lost.
It was true to say that Thorin had raised him to lead; Fili knowing that after the passing of his uncle, he would be the one to rule over their people. But he had not expected his rule to come so soon.......not so soon.
Fili, as well as Kili, had always believed that their uncle was indestructible, that he was too strong to die; that Thorin would rule forever, and Fili had been fine with that. But then the battle had come; then Thorin had faced the pale orc and made the ultimate sacrifice, proving that unfortunately, the great Thorin Oakenshield was just as mortal as the rest of them. And now Fili was without Thorin, without Kili, facing the fact that within a matter of days, he would be crowned the King under the Mountain.
With a heavy sigh, he looked towards Dale. After his uncle and brother had been laid to rest, he had honoured the promise that Thorin had made to the people of Lake-town. The once great city of men slowly being rebuilt under the eye of the new Master, Bard. The simple bargeman, now proving, that despite his protests, he had been made to be the leader of his people. And Fili couldn't help but hope that he would have the same strength that the man had shown; that his people would one day say of him, that he had been born to rule. Yet at this moment, all he could think was that he was still to young, still too inexperienced. That he had not been able to stand by the side of his grandfather and great grandfather, as Thorin had. Not known the Mountain before the dragon had claimed it, nor the long trek that the Durin's folk had faced after their home was lost. Nor was he the dwarf that had fought Azog with little more than an oaken branch, earning himself a great name. No, he was just Fili.......just Fili Durin; and he wasn't ready for any of this. The one that would be the new king, letting his head drop into his hands, as tears escaped his eyes.

She had followed him up to the ramparts; watching quietly from the shadows of the Mountain, as all the emotions that had built up within him since the battle, finally came flooding out. Her heart going out to him as she saw his head drop into his hands and heard him begin to sob.
She had been asked to join the Company of Thorin Oakenshield, by Gandalf; much to the chagrin of said Oakenshield, when she had revealed herself to not only be a female, but also a half-elf. Thorin making it quite clear that he didn't like the idea of either being with them, as they made their way to reclaim their home. Yet Kili, and particularly Fili, her lionheart dwarf, had never had the same issues. The two princes' making her feel most welcome. Kili doing his best to flirt with her as often as he could; while Fili.......well Fili had quickly found his way into her heart, making a home there and ensuring that it was impossible for her to love anyone else. She the one that had saved him in the tower; the one that had stopped Azog from impaling him. Knowing that if she had not, she would surely have died along with him. Not wanting to live any kind of life, if he was not in it. Yet she just wished that she could have saved Kili and Thorin too. Hating to see the dwarf she loved, doubting himself as much as he was. The peredhel knowing what he needed to hear, taking a deep breath, before stepping out into the moonlight.

"Your uncle would say that you were ready.......you know that, don't you......." A voice came. Fili turning to look at the half-elven whom he had lost his heart to.
"(Y/n), I............."
"No, Fili Durin. Thorin would tell you that you were ready for this. He would tell you that he had trained you all your life to be the next ruler of his people, and it was now time to put all that training into practice. He would tell you to take council from those that care for you; from Balin and Dwalin. To listen to your gut and be the lionheart king that he knew you would eventually be. And Kili.......well, Kili would tease you about everything. He would tell you that you looked silly in the royal robes, and the crown that has been made for you. He would laugh as you had to spend hours in meetings, listening to your advisors tell you what needs to be done, while he was off with Tauriel. But in the end, just like Thorin, he would be there for you; he would have stood by your side and been your most stalwart supporter..........." (Y/n) told him, as she took his face in her hands, and brushed away the tears from his cheeks, with her thumbs.
"And what do you say, (Y/n)..........?" Fili asked, as he looked up at her. His heart beating quicker, as she leant over and placed a kiss to his lips.
"I say, that you will be a great king, Fili. You will bring a new era to Erebor; and one day, the rule of the Lionheart King of the Mountain, will be spoken of as a golden age. And I will be here to help you in any way that I can, for as long as you will have me........" She replied. Fili smiling broadly for the first time on what seemed like an age. The weight of the world leaving him, as he wrapped his arm around her waist, and pulled her close.
"Well, a golden age would require its king to have a queen. A beautiful queen that travelled with Thorin's Company. That faced wargs, orcs, and goblins, alongside the king. Whom fought with him at the Battle of the Five Armies and was the one who saved his life. A queen that will help mend the rift between dwarves and elves. So.......be my queen, (Y/n). Help me rule. Help me be the king that you believe I can be." Fili said. Asking her the question that he knew that he should have asked her from the moment that he had realised that she was the one that he was meant to be with. The one that held the heart of the lion in her hands.
"I am not worthy of such an honour. But I love you, Fili Durin, and I always will. And if you wish for me to be your queen; to be your bride, then there is no other word that I can say, but.......yes.........yes, Fili........" The new king placing his hand on her cheek and drawing her down to him. The pair sharing a kiss filled with such passion, that no one would question the love that they had for one another. Fili knowing that despite his fears, despite his doubts, with (Y/n) by his side, he would rule the Mountain as well as he could. And sure, that his uncle and brother would approve of he and his elven queen, bringing with them a golden age of the lionheart.
