(Y/n) ignored the looks from Boromir and Gimli, as she made her way over to where Legolas sat, gazing out over the darkness that spread before them. The elf prince having offered to take the first watch.

"Do you think I was wrong for telling them? That they will see me differently.....?" The female Ranger enquired, as she took a seat next to Legolas on the large rock he was perched on. The ellon taking her hand and bringing it to his lips.

When his father had sent him to find the two Rangers, after the Battle of the Five Armies, he had thought little of why (Y/n) had been named 'Shadow'; but when he, (Y/n) and Aragorn had come across a group of orcs one day as they made their way through the wilderness, it had become obvious; Legolas watching on as the beauteous Dúnedain had become this creature he had never seen the likes of, before. Aragorn holding him back, as his sister had cut through the wicked abominations that bore down on them. And then, when every last orc lay dead, the creature had become (Y/n) again. Aragorn rushing to his sister's side as she dropped to her knees, exhausted.

The siblings had of course explained, (Y/n) telling him more or less the same story that she had told the rest of the Fellowship, not long before. And even though the heirs of Isildur had assured him that such things only happened when (Y/n) was faced by the evil of the world, he had to confess that for a while he had found himself keeping his distance from her. But after watching her with her brother, watching how she interacted with the world and everything in it, he had come to see that no matter the curse she had to bear, or perhaps because of it, she was still the most wonderful woman that he had ever met. His memories of Tauriel and what he had thought was love, long gone, when he had finally confessed his feelings for her. And he was sure that if they could not already see it, then the dwarf, the man from Gondor and the halflings would quickly come to appreciate (Y/n) just as much as he and Aragorn did, despite her confession.

"I believe that it was for the best. The hobbits are inquisitive, and I think that sooner or later they would have asked the questions about why you were called Shadow, or they would have seen your scar. Now there are no secrets; now there is nothing they cannot claim that you have not told them. Though I am sure that it will still be a surprise when we finally meet the agents of Sauron. But no matter what, those that know you, those that love you, do not see you any differently.........." Legolas replied, as he kissed her hand again; though (Y/n) couldn't help but let out a sigh.

He was of course, right. She had hated the idea of her secret, especially given what this quest was about, and she had determined to tell all those of the Fellowship that did not know of her curse; but she had not necessarily thought to do it so soon. And the way that Frodo in particular had looked at her, she had to confess, hurt. But at least he had not sent her away; he had not spoken to her since, and nor had any of the others, but at least she was still with Legolas and her brother.

"You thought differently of me for a while when first you learned of my secret........" (Y/n) chuckling slightly, as she saw the look on the prince's face.

"I thought you would never speak to me again after........well after..........knowing you did not know whether to trust me........."

"I was wrong, Meleth nin, I know that. There is no one I trust more than you. I know what and who you are in your heart; and what you can become when you are threatened by darkness, well, that can only help us now. It can only aid us in our quest. The Witch-king had no idea what he would create when you met that day. He had no idea that that small girl would fight the poison that made its way through her veins and become something that would come back to haunt everything that calls the Dark Lord, master. But they will know it now. And let the man and dwarf grumble. They will stop when they see what you can do." The Mirkwood prince told her; resting his head against hers, as leant into his shoulder.

"And if we do win. If the creature within me, helps to destroy Sauron and his forces; do you think that I........do you think that when the evil ends, it will leave me, or..........."

"Do not speak of such things, emel nin........" Legolas interrupted, before turning and taking her by the shoulders.

"Nothing will happen to you. I will not allow anyone or anything to take you from me, now that I have you again. And I do not believe that the Valar would take you from me, if our quest is successful. No, the curse will leave you, and we will spend every moment that we are given, together." The prince continued, before placing his lips to hers. The gesture subtle, yet still filled with the passion that she had long ago learned lay under that seemingly cool exterior of the son of the elvenking. The female Ranger pulling him close and hoping beyond hope, that he was right.
