As predicted, it hadn't taken long for the celebrations in the family home, to move out onto the streets. (Y/n) holding onto Dwalin's arm, as they and the others made their way through the market. The princess stopping and speaking to anyone that came up to her and gave her their best wishes for her special day. The smile that graced her beauteous features, never leaving her lips, as took in everything around her. Yet it was not just the youngest Durin that was smiling, the son of Fundin unable to keep a smile from his own lips, as he proudly escorted the princess around town. His chest puffed out, and his form pulled up to his full, imposing height, as locals and visitors continued to greet and speak with (Y/n).

Dwalin could remember when they had done such things as this, when the princess was but a tiny dwarrowdam. (Y/n) sat atop his shoulders as he carried her around the stalls of the market; the little female telling him all manner of stories that she seemed to have just been able to make up, before getting distracted by something she had liked the look of, or they had been stopped by another dwarf that wished to speak to one of the pair; the two together, quite a common sight around Thorin's hall. In fact, it was so normal that the youngest son of Fundin, and the youngest child of Dis were seen together, that when they weren't, others would believe that there was something wrong.

"Do I have tha pleasure of addressin tha princess (Y/n)?" A voice asked. (Y/n) and Dwalin looking at the young dwarf that had come to stand before them. The princess gripping his arm reassuringly, as she heard Dwalin growl under his breath.

"Yes, I am (Y/n)........." She replied, her eyes widening as the unfamiliar dwarf took her hand and kissed her knuckles. Dwalin quickly reaching out and pulling her hand from the other dwarf's grasp.

"I......I am Dormir of the Iron hills; come with greeting and wishes from ya cousin, Lord Dáin, for ya comin of age." The auburn-haired dwarf explained, bowing low, as Thorin and the rest of the family came to join (Y/n) and Dwalin.

"That, and there is a gift........" Dormir continued, as he brought out a small box and presented it to the princess. Dwalin reluctantly letting (Y/n)'s hands go, so that she could take the box. The dwarrowdam smiling and nodding in thanks, before opening it to reveal a beautiful necklace with a deep blue sapphire hanging from the chain.

"The chain is fashioned from Mithril, mined from Khazad-dȗm before its fall; and tha jewel came from tha Lonely Mountain, a gift to my lord from your great grandfather. Lord Dáin hopes that you find it pleasin....." (Y/n) letting her fingers ghost over the beautiful piece of jewellery, before she turned her attention back to the visitor.

"Please give Lord Dáin my thanks for such a wonderful gift; and tell him that I find it more than simply pleasing. It is........it is exquisite........."

"Though, if I may be so bold as ta say, it still pales in comparison ta you. And if I may also ask, would you do me tha honour of savin a dance fa me this evening........?"

This evening......(Y/n) had forgotten all about the evening. There to be a formal dance where she would get to properly meet visitors that had arrived from the other dwarven realms. It something that she had not been looking forward to, given that she knew her mother would want her to dance to lots of dwarves that she had never met, in hopes that her eye may fall favourably upon one of them.

"Oh, I..........Of course, Master Dormir. I would like that." (Y/n) replied, as she looped her arm back around that of her escort; curtsying quickly, before she pulled Dwalin into the crowd. Dormir furrowing his brows, but still bowing as Thorin, his sister, nephews and Balin passed.

"Ya know tha lad won't get anywhere near her......." Balin said, as he fell into step with Thorin. The prince looking back to the auburn dwarf.

"Perhaps we should have told him........" Thorin shaking his head at his old friend's words.

"No, it would be cruel to dash his hopes now........."

"I doubt that Dis will be pleased..........."

"My sister wants nothing more than for all her children to be happy. And if he makes (Y/n) happy; if he is what she wants........."

"Even though he is more than double her age........?" Thorin and Balin stopping, as they watched (Y/n) grab her brothers and pull them and Dwalin over to a stall.

"Dis.......all of us in fact, would have to have been blind to not think that the two would end up together. I cannot see my niece looking at anyone else but him. And in truth, there is no other that I would trust with her. He has protected her, all her life, and I cannot see that ever changing." Thorin replied, placing his hand on Balin's shoulder; the two looking over where Dwalin stood behind (Y/n), seeming to shield her from everyone else but her brothers.

"Well then, all we have ta do is wait fa him ta ask her." Balin agreed. Both of them shaking their heads as (Y/n)'s laughter filled the air, before she placed a kiss to Dwalin's cheek, then pulled him along to the next stall.
