Gandalf chuckled as Bilbo dropped into the chair next to him; the hobbit doing his best to catch his breath. The wizard had been able to work wonders on (Y/n)'s enchantment, Gandalf counteracting the spell that she had weaved over the hearts of the inhabitants of the Shire, meaning that the wedding of Ortho Longfoot and Primula Mugwort had taken place; though it was obvious that even without the spell, those that called Hobbiton home, really had taken to the Water maid into their hearts. The wizard and hobbit watching on, as the children at the celebration all danced with (Y/n).
"So........." Gandalf began, as he tightly packed the weed in his pipe, before lighting it. The smoke gently making its way up into the slowly darkening sky.
"Huh........?" Bilbo absentmindedly replied, smiling broadly, as (Y/n) laughed at the little ones that held onto her hands and skirt, spinning her around as the music continued.
Bilbo had been dancing with the Water maid since the celebrations had started, the hobbit feeling the most immense sense of pride as the two moved with the other guests to the joyful sounds of the instruments that surrounded them all. The hobbit, even though it may seem foolish, wondering what it might be like if such festivities were for him and (Y/n). What it would be like if this were their wedding day. Bilbo sure that such a thing would never come to be, but the idea, he had to say, was more than just a little appealing.
He had realised that since she had been living with him in Bag End, he had found a peace that he never thought he would have again. After his adventure, after losing his friends, he had come to believe that there would always be a part of him missing; a part that he had left in the Mountain with Thorin, Fili, Kili and those of the Company that had survived the battle. Yet with the Water maid, even though the part was still not there, she had been able to fill it with something else; something uniquely (Y/n) that had given him a new happiness, that had given him, dare he say.........love. There, he had thought it, he was in love with the Water maid, had been since he first saw her in the river, and he had no desire to lose her. No desire to lose someone else he cared about, if he could help it. And as much as they may seem like the oddest couple in Middle-Earth he was sure that if she stayed with him, somehow, they would make it work.
"She is quite beautiful........" Gandalf continued. The Istar smiling as Bilbo nodded. A soft sigh leaving his lips as (Y/n) looked over at him and smiled, before continuing her dance with the children.
"Despite all the years I have lived in this world, she is the first of her kind that I have ever had the privilege to lay my eyes on. I had read stories, heard the tales from those that had claimed to have seen Water maids in their true homes; but I never thought to see one myself. It is no wonder that you have come to love her..........." The wizard chuckling again, as Bilbo turned to look at him, his eyes wide and cheeks flushed.
"I.....we......I don't..........."
"There is nothing to be ashamed of, Bilbo. Love is what Water maids are, it is what they do. Yet unlike with all those that she had enchanted, I sense that your feelings for her, and hers for you, are quite real............"
"She loves me, too..........?" Bilbo interrupted, as he looked over to (Y/n).
"My dear Bilbo, it is obvious to all that she cares most deeply for you. For her to leave the water for as long as she has, to remain with you, even though she is now recovered from her injuries, must tell you something........."
"I.......I suppose. But something like this could never be.......could it? I mean, I am a hobbit, and she.........."
"Admittedly there are differences between the two of you; yet I have always found that love cares little for differences. It cares little for prejudices or preconceived notions about others, I believe that we only need look to Kili and Tauriel, to prove that. And I for one think that if love finds you, you should grasp it with both hands and hold to it tight; for one never knows when our last day will come........" Gandalf explained, as he placed his hand on Bilbo's shoulder. The hobbit slowly nodding, as he recalled how in love Kili seemed to have been, despite the fact that he and Tauriel had only had but brief interaction; Bilbo sure that it could have become something quite wonderful, if only the young prince had survived. And if there was something that he wanted, something that he needed, it was that something quite wonderful in his own life. The hobbit sure that if anyone could give him that, it was (Y/n).
"Bilbo........" An excited voice suddenly said. The hobbit and wizard looking up to see (Y/n).
"Come dance with me, again..........." The Water maid holding out her hand for the hobbit to take. Bilbo looking to wizard by his side.
"Well, I would not refuse such a request from a lady......." Gandalf said, before Bilbo took (Y/n)'s hand and let her lead him back into the crowd of hobbits. The wizard smiling broadly, as he took another deep puff from his pipe; Gandalf having a feeling that when he did get to talk to the Water maid, she would tell him what he already knew, and when she did, he would do all he could to help.
