Over Attu Island

North Pacific Ocean

1960

"Unidentified aircraft!" The radio crackled.

Indy grabbed the radio and spoke into it. "Mayday! Small passenger plane. Four on board. Two women. One pilot. One professor. No fuel. Extensive engine damage. We need to land."

"This is a restricted space"

The transmission cut off.

"What'd I do?" Indy asked Shorty.

"I think it was them," Shorty swallowed, fighting the plane.

There was a grinding noise.

Emily looked up from the map. "That was not supposed to happen, right?"

"Right."

Shorty stared at the dials in horror.

Indy followed his gaze. "Son?"

"Yeah, Dad," Shorty nodded. "Get the parachutes."

Lizavet handed Emily a parachute. "There are only two." She looked at Indy and Shorty.

"You ladies take them both," Indy ordered.

"Dad!" Emily cried.

"Korotkiy?" Lizavet asked, devastated and knowing.

"Listen to Indy!" Shorty announced. "This is not a debate! I want you both off the plane as soon as possible!"

"Dr. Jones?" The radio crackled with a different voice.

Indy recognized it, lunging to reply. "Ross?"

"Yes, sir! You're cleared to land."

"Good!" Shorty angled the plane, "because we're going down anyway!"

Indy moved to Emily and Lizavet. "Go!" He ordered, hugging them, bringing them to the edge of the plane's melted door. "Go!"

Lizavet jumped.

Emily stared at Indy, tears in her eyes. "Dad... No! I don't want to leave you!"

Indy smiled as his hat blew off into the plane. "I love you, Em." He gripped her. "Tell your mother and sister and the kids the same thing, if I don't make it out of this."

"No, Dad! No!" She gripped him tighter and pitched out of the plane.

Indy tumbled out of the plane with her - mortified and falling without a parachute. "Emmaline Henrietta Ravenwood Jones! What part of 'fly yes - land no' did you miss?"

She grinned and snapped her whip around them both and yelled into Indy's ear as they dropped through the sky. "Don't know, Dad. But I love you too much to let go. Pull the cord to open the chute!"
