"STOP!" Indy ordered. "Skeletons usually mean traps!"
"We don't have time, Poppa!" Lizavet blurted. "The lava is coming for us. I can smell it."
A hot breeze forced its way through the chamber taking away their cooler air.
Shorty blinked. "It's my crew! Alfie! Jeff! Ned! Pete!" Shorty stammered at the skeletons, stunned and trembling.
"Shorty," Indy warned. "We don't have time..."
"I know," Shorty's voice caught. "But I flew with these guys. I didn't want to leave them the first time. I wanted to bring them home...."
"We can't son," Indy rested his hand on Shorty's shoulder.
Shorty swallowed. "At least let me grab their dog tags. Take something home to their families."
Indy looked at Emily.
She clutched her side and gave a nod. "You would let me, Dad. You always let me."
Indy nodded. "Make it fast, Shorty."
Shorty darted forward, yanking at the dog tags hanging precariously around each man's remains. "Sorry," he whispered. "I'm so sorry that you didn't make it home."
"Did the best you could, Cap," several voices whispered through the ruins.
"Did you hear that?" Shorty asked, looking around.
Lizavet nodded. "That was for you."
Emily turned, feeling the fire of the roaring lava coming toward them - its glow reflecting on their faces.
Indy swept her up in his arms. "RUN!"
