"They want to chase us," Lizavet answered, watching the one remaining plane. "Our lives are a game to them."
"Dad?" Emily asked, squeezing Indy's hand, her eyes still blindfolded, "I can feel the heat and smell the smoke. We'd better run."
Indy looked at the two walls of fire hemming them in on either side. "Lizavet... can you control fire...?"
"Only a little? It was my mother's talent."
"Then make a door, hon."
She nodded. "It will be in this realm...?"
"Yeah."
"Only a short distance away?"
"Yeah. Just enough to get us out of this mess. That's the idea."
"Dad...?" Emily winced through the blindfold. "Its too bright."
"I know." Indy watched the walls of fire converge, cutting off their escape. "Shorty - go through first to catch Em."
"I will have to go last," Lizavet swallowed. "And you will have to shut the door after I jump through."
"Right." Indy paused. "Okay Lizavet. Em... jump when I tell you."
"Got it, Dad." Emily tensed her muscles, completely trusting him.
Indy looked at Shorty giving a nod and seeing him nod back - just like they had exchanged decades ago on a bridge stretched over a chasm, both their lives in danger.
The fire closed in around them. The smoke was thick, the air crackled and steamed making it hard to see and worse to breathe.
"Lizavet - NOW!"
Lizavet made a motion with her hand.
"Shorty!" Indy ordered.
Shorty's feet stuck to the ground.
"Em! Jump!"
Emily dove through the supernatural doorway with a shocked shriek of bravado.
Shorty raced after her.
Indy looked at Lizavet, grabbed her one handed and dove, slamming the door behind him.
