Attu Island
North Pacific Ocean
1960
Indy and Emily stepped around Shorty and Lizavet's kiss, blocking Mac and his agents from arresting the newlyweds.
Emily stood next to Indy. "Why the last name Jones?"
"Em, Shorty never gave me a last name. Ever. Besides..." he shrugged. "Wedding and adoption? Your mother's always wanted a son."
Mac glared at them. "What were you thinking bringing a KBG agent to a top secret island?"
Emily and Indy shrugged, grinning at each other. "I don't know..." Indy started, an adventurous grin spreading uncontrollably across his face.
Mac glared at them. "Don't say it. Don't!.. you!... dare!.. Say!... It!"
"Well if it isn't obvious..." Emily paused. "Why'd you ask when you already know...?"
"We make stuff up as we go..." father and daughter chorused grinning at each other.
"And you don't want to hear about it, Mac..." Indy continued.
Mac looked behind them at Lizavet and Shorty. "Why is Agent Wan Li kissing a foreign intelligence agent?"
"Because they're married," Indy grinned. "And their last name is Jones."
"Who officiated this!?!?" Mac scrambled. "It can't be legal!"
Ross stepped forward. "Captain Jones officiated. We're all witnesses. Right men?"
The soldiers chorused, "Yes, sir!" ... falling into a protective formation around Lizavet and Shorty, blocking them from the CIA agents and backing up their impromptu captain.
Mac stared at Indy. "Who made you captain?"
"You did, Mac," Indy grinned. "1942. Right after I got home from the wrong turn at the Attu invasion."
Mac backed away. "Forget I asked. And, Indy... please communicate with your wife, she stuck a shotgun in my face again, kidnapped my son -"
Emily burst into laughter.
Mac glared at her. "That's not funny, young lady."
"Yeah it is, Mac." Emily had her hands on her hips, just like Marion. "Do you want me to rescue him again?"
"You barely rescued him the first time." Mac retorted, turning back to Indy. "And Marion threatened that if I lost her husband a third time... she'd bring your granddaughter Laurel, who'd kick me in the shins until I confessed where her..." Mac swallowed. "Gwandpa was." He looked at Indy. "You seriously let her call you... Gwandpa?"
Indy shrugged. "She can't say r's yet. And she's not gonna call me 'captain.' That's your job, Mac." Indy grinned. "And I missed all of it. Do you know how many years I've waited to watch Marion stick a shotgun in your face? Family is always an adventure Mac. That's why I love them so much. And if you bother Lizavet and Shorty - they're my family too, now. And you know how hard I fight for my family."
Mac sighed. "I am not a marriage counselor. Marion cannot keep coming to me when you don't communicate."
"Grandpa Henry should have called," Em offered.
Mac sighed. "He did. We were listening. There was something about a two way mirror, juniors and shortbread. Her reply was, 'well, at least they took food!'" Mac looked at Indy. "We spent six days trying to figure out if that was code for something."
"Oh boy," Indy muttered. "Dad confused Marion... Em, you were right. I should have called."
"I told you, Dad. You're bad at romance and you're bad at communicating."
"I'm sure it's on Marion's honey do list for me," Indy replied with humorous defeat.
"The short list, or the one that's a couple decades long?" Emily asked.
He glanced over at Shorty and Lizavet kissing near the wreckage of the plane. "Em, want to go see the Attu barrow grave?"
"Yes!" Emily jumped.
