Y/N's POV
" This has gone way to far. I have to put a stop to this." I thought to myself as I walked towards the front gate. My name is Y/N L/N. I'm a hobbit from The Shire. About a year has gone by since Gandalf first chose me as the fourteenth member of the Company of Thorin Oakenshield and a lot has happened. First of all I should've never been here. My friend Bilbo was supposed to come on this trip but shooed away Gandalf. Gandalf then took an interest in me and made me the fourteenth member of the company. We battle trolls, orcs, met some elves, saw a thunder battle, fought off goblins, I found this cool ring, rode on the back of eagles, encountered some spiders, entered a town called Laketown, and even faced down a dragon. We successfully completed our quest and took back the Lonely Mountain and the Kingdom of Erebor.
But the leader of this company, Thorin Oakenshield, has started to change. He's been obsessed with finding the Arkenstone. The Arkenstone is a large, white jewel that was found within the mines of Erebor and was pronounced to be the King's Jewel. Thorin believes that having it is his birthright. But he has gone mad. Balin told me about the dragon sickness that drove Thorin's grandfather mad with lust for gold. He fears Thorin was going through the same thing and it is true. Now I was tasked as the burglar to retrieve the stone but I couldn't find it in time and Smaug attacked me. At least that's what I told everyone. I found it and was going to give it to Thorin but he's changed. He values the treasure over the company, went back on his word to aid the people of Laketown, has been obsessed with finding the Arkenstone, has become distrustful of the members of the company, and has been lashing out for no reason.
Heck he's even declared war against the Woodland Elves and their king Thranduil. Now there will be a battle tomorrow and I fear we will all die. I've grown fond of all of these dwarves, especially Thorin. I care about him....about all of them. I can't let him or anyone else die. So I decided to give the Arkenstone to the Elves and the people of Laketown in hopes that if they show it to Thorin, he'll come to an agreement and give them what he promised them. "Alright. I just hope I don't get caught." I said as I ascended the stairs to the top of the gate. I then walked to the side and started tying a rope that I saw there earlier only to be interrupted by Bofur.
" Trouble sleeping?" He asked. I made sure to over the rope while I faced him. " U-Um yeah. Just nervous for the battle tomorrow. I've never been in one." I said.
He nodded and turned his gaze towards the ruined city of Dale in the distant. " The first battle you partake in is always the scariest. It might be your last after all. There will be a lot of bloodshed tomorrow. But I know we will make it out alive....somehow. Maybe by some miracle." He said. I nodded. " W-Why don't you go and get some sleep? I'll stand watch. I don't want you to not have enough strength for tomorrow." I said. He smiled. " Thank you Y/N. I will. Maybe there will still be some food left for me to eat, if Bombur didn't eat it all." He said. He then walked down the stairs and left the main entrance. Once I was sure he was gone I resumed tying the rope. Once it was secure, I climbed down and made my way to the ruins of Dale.
Since I was very small it took a while to get to Dale. But once I arrived I headed straight for the main area. As I walked I saw Gandalf talking with Bard. " There will be no bloodshed. This is a fight they cannot win." Bard said. I walked over and interrupted them. " That won't stop them. The dwarves will not surrender. They will fight to the death to defend their own." I said. " Y/N L/N. You're live." Gandalf said. I smiled. " Good to see you again Gandalf." I said. They then brought me inside of the main tent where I met King Thranduil. " So you're the halfling that stole the keys to my dungeon right under the nose of my guards." He said. " Yeah....sorry about that." I said. " Why are you here then?" He asked. " I um....came to give you this." I said. I then placed an object wrapped up in an old cloth on a nearby table and reveled it to be the Arkenstone. " The Heart of the Mountain." Thranduil said as he got up and inspected the stone. " How is this yours to give?" Bard asked.
