Y/N's POV
" Let me go! I'll kill you if you don't!" I said to the guards escorting me to the Duke's office. " Not a chance. This is the fourth time you've attempted to escape. You're going to see the Duke. He'll decide what to do with you." One of the guards said. I growled at them. After a short walk we arrived at the doors to the Duke's office. I could feel a bit of fear rising up in my veins. But I quickly shook it off. " Don't show fear Y/N. If you do...." I thought to myself. I shook my head to shake away the thought. " Stay strong and don't show fear." I thought to myself. My name is Y/N. I'm a prisoner in the Fortress of Meropide. The reason I was sent here is....irrelevant. I've tried escaping multiple times but I've always been caught. Today marks my fourth time. I thought escaping through the service tunnels would work but ever since that Harbinger escaped through them, they're always guarded.
Now I've been brought before the Duke. I just hope that I can find away to escape even after the Duke gives me his punishment. The guards knocked on the door. When it opened, they brought me inside. Once inside, I was face to face with the Duke: Wriothesley. However, he had a guest. Standing next to Wriothesley was Chief Justice Neuvillette. I remembered him from when I got my sentence. " We caught her trying to escape again. If we knew you had a guest we wouldn't have interrupted." One of the guards said. " It's alright. You can leave her here." He said. They let go of me and left. " Tried to escape again? This is the fourth time now. And I heard you tried the service tunnels this time." He said. " Don't patronize me dog boy." I said. I spat on the floor near him.
" Sharp tongue you've got there." He said. He walked up to me. " Now...what to do with you?" He asked. " May I interject?" Neuvillette said. We both turned towards him. " I have a suggestion for you. Why doesn't she come with me? I am in need some someone to help around my office." He said. " You want me to be some secretary? Tch, no way." I said. " The alternate choice is staying here." Neuvillette said. My eyes widened and I tensed up a bit. " A-Alright. I accept." I said. " Good. You don't mind right?" Neuvillette asked Wriothesley. " Not at all. It makes this talk a lot quicker so I have more time to enjoy my tea." He said. Neuvillette nodded. " Follow me." He said. I rolled my eyes but followed behind him. " Well at least I'll be on the surface. That will make it easier for me to escape." I thought to myself. " And don't think of escaping. If you do, you'll be sent back down here." He said.
I growled a bit. After getting some paperwork from the front desk, we headed towards the elevator to the surface. I was getting nervous. I had not seen the sun since the day I was sent down here. I was a little nervous. We soon made it to the top and ascended the staircase. When we reached the top of the staircase, I shielded my eyes with my arm before looking up at the clear blue sky. " Woah....." I said as I looked up at the sky. I felt a tear in my eye. " It has been too long since i've seen the sun." I said. Neuvillette looked at me. " If you behave, you won't ever have miss this view again." He said. He then motioned for me to follow him and i did. He brought me to the Palais Mermonia and into his office. " It's so big." I said. " I tend to go for a minimalistic design hence the open space." He said. He then sat down at his desk and I stood in front of it. He then began flipping through the paperwork he got from the Fortress.
