Y/N's POV

I watched helplessly as Wulf slit the throat of my brother in cold blood. His body fell onto the ground and I started tearing up. Hera went to grab a sword from a nearby guard to charge at Wulf but was held back by them. Olwyn quickly brought father inside to treat his wounds. " You will know what it's like to be alone just like I was. Then and only then will I finally kill you." He said. He then turned away and went back to his tent with the general. " Wulf...." I said. " My Lady, they're closing the gates. We have to get you inside before Wulf's army reaches us." A guard said. I wiped the tears away from my eyes and went inside. The gates were closed and the fortress was secured. But Wulf's men weren't leaving us alone. They set up camp outside of the fortress and started building a siege tower. They planned to attack us if we didn't die of hunger or froze to death first. Once inside the fortress, father was taken to a healer and Hera ran from the gate. As for myself, I didn't have time to mourn. There were more things to worry about. " I'm going to take inventory of the supplies we have." I said to one of the guards. The guard nodded and I went off. I made my way to the basement to start on the inventory. " Okay we have at least 15 barrels of mead, a few barrels of wine, and the water pump outside hasn't frozen over yet. I can ask Olwyn or Hera to check about food. Or maybe I could ask Lief." I said.

I then felt my hands shaking and felt tears running down my face. " Dammit. No crying Y/N." I said as I wiped my tears. " My lady?" I heard a voice say. I turned to see Olwyn. " Olwyn..." I said.
" The Lords are meeting to discuss strategy." She said. " I see. Thanks for letting me know." I said. I wiped my tears and headed for the staircase. She then grabbed my arm, stopping me. " It's okay if you need some time to mourn my lady." She said. I pulled my arm away from her. " I have no time to mourn. We have a war to win." I said. I then walked upstairs and joined my sister to address the Lords. After the meeting, I help Hera with more inventory. We quickly realized that we didn't have enough to last us through the winter. " This is barely enough wood." I said. " We'll have to find alternate options for kindling." Hera said. " Yeah. How's father by the way?" I asked.
" The healers said that his wounds will heal but he hasn't woken up yet." Hera said. " I see...." I said. We stood in silence for a few more moments. " We just need to make sure we last until the spring." Hera said. " Yeah...I'm going to get some sleep." I said. " Yeah. Goodnight sister." Hera said. " Goodnight sister." I said. I then headed upstairs to my room. As I was walking upstairs, I saw two children huddled near a fire that was going out. I took off my cloak and gave them some blankets I was holding. " Here, take these." I said. Their little faces lit up. " T-Thank you Lady Y/N." One of them said. " Y-Yeah, thank you." The other said.

I smiled and went off to my room. When I was inside I looked out the window and observed the tents outside of the fortress' wall. " Why did it have to come to this Wulf? Why did you have to do any of this?" I thought to myself. I climbed onto my bed and sat on it. I pulled my knees into me and hid my head in them. " Why did you have to ask Hera for her hand in marriage? Why didn't you ask my Wulf? I would've said yes even if it was just for a political alliance." I said.
