Y/N's POV
" Alright, today is your first day here as a maid. I hope you won't let me down." The master of the house said to me. " I won't let you down master. I'll be the best maid ever." I said. He chuckled and patted me on the head. " I'm positive you will be." He said. " So what will I be doing today?" I asked. " Well, you will be watching over my son today. He mostly stays inside of his room reading his books. I want you to tend to him today." He said. " Very well. Is there anything else I should know about before I enter the room?" I asked. " Yes. He has a rare skin condition that prevents him from going out in the daylight. Make sure that the curtains are always closed in his room. Oh and when he goes out, please accompany him." The master said. " Of course master." I said. He nodded and led me to his son's room. " Here it is. Good luck." He said. " Thank you master. I promise I won't let you down." I said. He nodded and walked away. I took a breath before entering the room. I then put my hand on the door knob and opened the door. " Sorry for the intrusion. Your father has asked me to look after you." I said as I entered the room. In front of the bookshelf I saw a young boy. He had neatly combed black hair and wore a normal outfit for a boy befitting his status. His eyes were a shade of blue and he had a stoic expression on his face. He turned to face me when I came in. " You're a new face." He said. " Yes. My name is Y/N. I'm the new maid your father hired. He has asked me to look after you." I said. The boy said nothing and just went back to his reading.
" Okay then. If you need anything, I'll be over here." I said. I walked away from him and stood near the door. I stood by the door for a few hours. But he never acknowledge my presence. He just kept perusing the books on the shelf. " W-Would you like me to brew you some tea or get you something to eat?" I asked. " No thank you. I'm fine." He said as he continued flipping through a book. " This kid isn't normal. There's something off about him." I thought to myself. He then winced in pain and that's when I saw that some of the curtains covering the windows started moving, letting the sun in. I quickly walked over to the windows and covered them with the curtains. I then walked over to him. " Are you okay Toshikuni?" I asked as I observed his burn spot. He quickly pulled his arm away. " I'm fine." He said. " Right." I said. I sighed and stood up. " I'm going to get something to eat." I said. I started walking out of the room. " Wait." I heard him say. I turned back towards him. " Thank you for closing the curtains. The others are never that quick." Toshikuni said. I smiled a bit. " No problem." I said. " Do you think you could accompany tonight when I go and get a new book?" He asked. " Of course I can. Your father did instruct me to accompany you on your nightly walks." I said. He nodded. " Good." He said.
Later that night, I accompanied Toshikuni to the bookstore to pick up a new book. " A book about plants? Are you looking into botany?" I asked. " You could say that." He said. As we walked, I noticed we were taking a different way home. " Um Toshikuni? Where are we?" I asked. We were in some sort of alley way. " Toshikuni, I don't think we should be here. Let's head back home." I said as I turned my back to him. But the second I did so, i felt an unnerving presence behind me. " Toshikuni.....?" I went to turn around but was stopped when I heard someone call my name. " Y/N? What are you doing out here?" I turned towards the person and saw Toshikuni's father. " M-Master." I said. " What are you doing out here? Where's Toshikuni?" He asked. " Umm..." I said. " " I'm right here father." I heard Toshikuni said. He popped out from behind me. " There you are. What are you doing in this alleyway?" Toshikuni's father asked. " Oh I wanted to try a short cut but we got lost. Thankfully Y/N knew the way out." He said. That was a lie but for some reason I was too scared to question it. " I see. Thank you Y/N. Let's all head home now." Toshikuni's father said. Toshikuni nodded and walked with his father. I walked behind them but felt uneasy the entire time. I had a feeling that if Toshikuni's father didn't come when he did, I was going to be dead. I knew I couldn't tell anyone this. They wouldn't believe me. All I knew is that there was something about Toshikuni....something dangerous....something deadly.
