Chapter 42

"Heidi..."

Heidi slowly opened her eyes and lifted her head, frowning in confusion as her brain started to register that she was in her car and not in her room.

"Hey, we stopped for some gas," North explained as he watched her look around confused. "Do you want to grab some snacks and stretch your legs for a bit?"

"Wh..." she trailed off as realization dawned on her. "Oh I'm so–"

"Hi Hi potty," Liam interrupted as he shifted side to side in his carseat.

"Oh, okay," she quickly unbuckled then started to work on his carseat button. "One second–"

"I gotcha, Lil Man," Luke said, suddenly appearing before them. "I need to go as well so perfect timing, now I won't be alone and scared," he winked at Liam, causing the little boy to burst into laughter. "You are going to protect me, aren't you?"

"Yep!" Liam shouted as he began dino stomping to the gas station with Luke, Marc, Axel, and Silas following behind them.

"Do you need to go?" North asked as he leaned down into the open door from where he was pumping gas. "We are about an hour away." She shook her head, "Do you want a few of us to go in with you so you can grab you and him some snacks? The guys are going to grab some for us while they are in there."

"We're fine, thank you," she murmured as she shook her head.

"Well, do you want to get out and stretch your legs while we wait?" North asked and she shook her head. "Okay, we shouldn't be too much–"

"Hi Hi wook!" Liam shouted as he started running to her with a bag in his hands. He tripped, falling to the ground.

"Liam!" she shouted as she pushed North to rush past him. Dropping to her knees just as Luke picked him up, she grabbed her brother's small hands in hers. "Are you okay? Let me see."

"I ok, Sissy," he said all the while blinking back tears. "I big boy."

"Big boys cry too," she said removing her sweater, revealing the tank underneath. She used the sweater to wipe the dirt off his hands. "It's okay to cry, I promise."

"Yep," Luke nodded as he crouched down to LIam's level. "In fact, just this morning I cried after I fell out of a tree and landed wrong. Doc," he used his thumb to motion over to Sean, "fixed me all up. Want him to give you a big boy check up?"

"I hurt, Sissy," Liam burst into tears.

Heidi pulled Liam to her and shifted so she was sitting on the ground instead of kneeling. "I'm so proud of you for being honest, Liam," she murmured as she kissed his hair. "You are such a brave little man." Once he started to settle down she kissed him once more before pulling back slightly, "Want to try again and show me what you got?"

"I gots your faborite yummy!" he giggled while wiping his face. She handed him her sweater so he wiped his face again. "Wook," he beamed proudly as he took the bag from Luke, "Fank you."

"You're welcome," Luke smiled.

"Wow!" Heidi smiled as Liam pulled out a bag of Haribo gummy bears then a bag of bold chex mix, followed by a bottle of Big Blue and a bottle of watermelon flavored Propel. "Lee Lee..."

"Me got me faborites too," he said as he pulled out a bottle of juice that had a dino on the top, a bag of M&Ms, and goldfish. "Wuke and Askle say me pick for me you, Hi HI. Me say fank you."

Her eyes darted over to Axel in shock. "I –"

"No," Axel shook his head. "No one else will side with you either so don't bother trying. Just accept it." She opened her mouth but Axel's eyes darkened, "Doll," his voice lowered, "Just say–"

"Thank you," she murmured instantly.

"Good," he smirked as he walked past her to the cars.

She was almost certain she heard "Girl," just as he passed her...almost. Slightly shaking her head, she looked back down at Liam, smiling, "Think the big brave dino can walk back to the car or does he need some time to rest and be carried?"

"I okay," Liam beamed as he held up his hands and roared.

Heidi let out a carefree laugh as she stood. Wincing slightly at some pain in her knees, she quickly masked it as she clapped. "Then let's go to our next adventure, Mr. Dino Sir." A cough had her looking around but not seeing any of the guys coughing, she shrugged and went back to watching Liam dino stomp.

Once he was settled back in his seat, she slid in next to him as Raven got in the passenger seat next to North who insisted on driving again.

"Oy, give me your sweater and I'll wash it when we get home," Gabe said suddenly appearing by the car. She opened her mouth but the look on his face had her shutting it before holding it out. "Here in case you get cold," he held out his zip up hoodie.

"I'm not going to let her get cold, Gabriel," North threw him a glare.

"Fine, then in case she gets tired again she can cover up," Gabe rolled his eyes.

"Are you okay?" she blurted out before slapping a hand over her mouth.

"I'm fine, why?" Gabe asked confused.

"You no say bad words," Liam answered honestly. "You aways say no no words."
