MULA SA PAG-ALO kay Klio, napalingon si Teyl sa pintuan ng silid ng binata nang marinig ang pagbukas niyon.
She found her Tito Von standing by the door.
Bumangon siya't umupo sa kama.
"Tito, how's Tito Ciolo?" tanong niya sa tiyuhin.
His demeanor has changed.
She's never seen her uncle looked so devastated before.
She's worked with him at the Union. She saw him often stoic and composed.
Napansin niya ang bahagyang paghina ng paghagulgol ni Klio. Kasunod niyon ang pagbangon ng binata at pag-upo sa tabi niya.
"He's dead-on-arrival," sagot ni Tito Von bago pa makapagtanong si Klio.
For a moment, she felt the air went still, the room getting smaller around them.
Pinigilan niya ang paglingon kay Klio. She knew seeing the grief on his face will break her heart. Kaya ang ginawa niya, lumuhod na lang siya sa higaan at niyakap ang binata pasandal sa dibdib niya.
It took him a while to respond and pull her body closer to him.
On normal occasion, it might had delighted her. But not during that time.
Not when he’s down in her arms, his world ripping apart...
“They did everything they can,” narinig niyang sabi ng tiyuhin niya. “But it’s too late...”
Parang may lumakumos ng puso niya.
“It’s my fault...” narinig niyang bulong ni Klio sa pagitan ng paghikbi.
Hinaplos niya ang buhok nito. “Shh... Don’t say that... Wala kang kasalanan...”
Naghari ulit ang katahimikan sa loob ng silid. Save for Klio’s sobs.
“I have to go back and take care of his body,” ani Tito Von mayamaya. She knew he’s attempting to appear composed but his shaky voice gave him away. “Teyl, ikaw na ang bahala sa Kuya Klio mo,” bilin pa nito sa kanya.
She nodded. “Opo...” halos pabulong niyang sagot.
