I know some people use reviews to find their next read, so I thought I'd create a little how-to chapter to help y'all out.
First and foremost, I want to bring attention to active books and authors on Wattpad. So, I delete the reviews for books that have been unpublished or deleted, and I delete ones that are samples of works that are now published in physical form (if you find any reviews I need to remove, please let me know).
That being said, there are plenty of reviews here for ongoing books the authors haven't updated in a hot minute, so before you get too invested, check the chapter publication dates in the book's table of contents. In the future, I may start deleting reviews for ongoing books that have been inactive for over a year to save space, but I'm not doing that yet.
At the top of each review, I provide some basic information to give readers an idea of what to expect. I've tweaked the format a few times since I started doing this, but this is the general flow:
Title by Author
Series: (if applicable)
Source: (feedback request, judging an award, comment, series continuation, carrier pigeon, etc.)
Genre:
Secondary/subgenre(s): (if applicable)
Fandom: (if applicable)
Mature: Y/N (older reviews will have a list of content/trigger warnings here)
LGBTQIAPK+: Y/N (letters, main/side character, mention, etc.)
Status: Ongoing/Complete
Notes: (additional info, if applicable)
First impressions: /40 (or whatever rubric and score applies here)
Digging deeper: /100
Final thoughts: pending
Note: Chapter _____ was the last available chapter as of the publishing of this review. (newer reviews have this if I didn't finish the book before completing the review)
Clicking the "External Link" button below the "Continue to next part" button will take you straight to the book, or click the link in the inline comments here. → (if I missed a link, please let me know)
Content/trigger warnings (instances and mentions of):
(newer reviews have a comprehensive list of content/trigger warnings here)
And then the review follows.
When I first started doing this, it was all for the author, not the reader, so I didn't even think about excluding spoilers. After a while, I realized people were reading these reviews to find books to read, and I've since tried to be more careful about not including too many spoilers. So, read at your own risk.
Oh, and if you find any errors, or you don't like my tone, or something else concerns you, feel free to comment. I take all feedback into consideration, and I don't have a problem admitting I'm wrong or changing things if needed.
