Chapter 48

Sebastien's POV

My heartbeat almost stopped when I heard the gunshot. I hugged Evelyn protectively and closed my eyes.

I am scared to open my eyes now. I can't see her hurt.

"Seb, open your eyes." Evelyn said softly.
I opened them slowly and met with her eyes. I examined her to see if she was hurt.

"Are you fine?" I asked with tears.

She wiped my tears off and put her forehead on mine.
"I am completely fine. All thanks to you."

"I was so scared when I heard the gunshot." I said.

"Look behind." She said, and I did as she told me.

Emily was lying on the floor, lifeless. Cops were taking away her body.

"Cops came on time and shot her before she could kill Evelyn." Mark said.

"But I saw her pulling the trigger." I said.

"Yeah, she did, but fortunately, there wasn't any bullet left in her gun." He said.

"What happened? You look said." Evelyn cupped my cheeks.

"Emily was my best friend since childhood. I never thought she would turn out to be like this." I said.

"It's okay. Maybe she will be a better person in her next life." She said.

"Maybe."

"Are you guys coming, or are you gonna start your second honeymoon in this building?" Mark commented, and I kicked his butt.

"I was just teasing you. There is no need for violence. " He chuckled.

"Thank you, Mark. You always helped us." Evelyn said.

"At least someone is humble enough to appreciate others and show gratitude. Not like someone who only knows how to growl at others. " He narrowed his eyes at me.

I rolled my sleeves up, "You were saying something, Mark?"

"See, Eve, your husband is threatening me." He hid behind her.

"Seb, don't say anything to Mark. He is like my elder brother. " She scolded me, and thar mischievous Mark is enjoying this way too much.

'I will deal with you later, Mark.' I sent death glare to him .

"Let's go home, sweetheart. Our parents are worried. " I said. Listening about parents, she panicked.

"How can I forget they attacked mom. She was bleeding. Is she alright?" Tears welled in her eyes.

"Don't worry, she is fine. She is at the hospital. Let's visit her. And be strong, don't cry in front of her, okay?" I said, and she nodded.

"That's like my brave girl."

We went to the hospital. Mom rushed and engulfed Eve into a tight hug.

"My daughter, I was so scared. I'm glad you are fine." She kissed her forehead.

"How is mom?" Evelyn asked.

"Ravenna is having rest. She woke up, and she continued to ask about you. The doctor gave her an injection so that she could sleep peacefully. When she wakes up and sees you, she will be happy. " James said.

Evelyn hugged him, "Dad, did you cry?"

"No, I'm a strong man. I didn't cry." James pretended to be strong.

"I can see in your eyes that you cried. I am sorry I made you worried, dad." Evelyn said.

Tears fell from James's eyes, "When both the important ladies of my life were in threat, how could I stop these tears. You guys are my strength. I felt weak without you. "

"Everything is fine now. I'm fine, and mom, too . Now, don't be a crybaby." She chuckled.

"I'm not cry, baby. I'm a strong man." James pouted. Looking at this cute father daughter duo, a smile crept on my lips.

"Have you eaten something, dad?" I asked.

"I told him to eat, but he didn't even take a single bite. You father in law is not listening to us." Mom said.

"As if you have eaten. Your mother hasn't eaten yet. She even passed out once. She forgot to take her medicine. Your father went home to get her medicines. " James said.

"Both of you are stubborn. I'll bring something to eat and everyone has to eat without any excuse. Dad will be back with your meds, so you better eat before he comes and scolds you." I said.

"I'll come with you." Eve said, and I nodded.

"I'm glad our parents are getting along well. " She said.

"Yeah."

"How much sugar dad prefer in coffee ?" I asked.

"Get him a black coffee. No sugar. " She replied.

We got coffee, sandwiches, and croissants for everyone.

"Seb, thank you for being a part of my life." She smiled.

"There is nothing to be thankful of. I'm lucky to have a lover like you. I should be sorry that I failed to protect you once. But from now onwards, I'll be there for you." I said.

"You don't have to be sorry about it. That was never your fault. And now, if we look back to it, I guess god planned it for my own good. I got a beautiful family because of that incident. Mom and dad always loved me unconditionally." She said.

"I'll always be grateful to them." I said.
