Previously, we were in a flashback to when Jiro was in his mediation state back in Rokkurando at the Garden. Pheonix had begun revealing to Jiro and Coyote the other mythical spirit animals the so told "truths" of the world that Jiro was unaware of...

JIRO: The kingdom...of darkness?

COYOTE: This is total bullshit! All I have ever known of was the four kingdoms, and I have been around for centuries upon centuries.

PHEONIX: Like much of the history of this world, the fifth kingdoms history has been completely covered up.

JIRO: Well, what is the mythical spirit animal?

PHEONIX: Not just yet. Let me start from the beginning.

COYOTE: *rolls eyes* Here we go...

PHEONIX: *gives Coyote a dirty look* Long ago, when man first came into contact with any spirit or mythical animals, it started off with the element you'd least expect.

JIRO: *clinches fist* Darkness?

PHEONIX: Darkness indeed. But the man who inherited the darkness element and spirit animal was not evil, and the power itself was great and supported the man's family and colony.  Shortly after, the other four gemstones were also found and the spirits were inherited. Eventually, these four holders of the elements were praised, and kingdoms were built around each of them. Many years passed with these kingdoms, including the kingdom of darkness, all living in harmony and supporting each other when in need. Once it got to the point that the blood of the original four element holders spread far enough across the globe over the years, people started to inherited spirit animals that didn't belong to elements and were not mythical but still granted great powers when trained and handled under the right circumstances.

JIRO: Wow, so the origin of everything huh?

PHEONIX: The origin of everything indeed. In fact, some say that the kingdom of darkness itself was the origin, since it was the first gemstone found and the only element around for some time during the beginning of time.

JIRO: So, there has to be a point where things go wrong, right?

PHEONIX: Correct...*sighs*. And it is mostly because of that wretched creature. You see, since all of the element holders since the beginning of time were usually close and had tight bonds, the same followed for us mythical spirits who were inherited by the element holders. Even the mythical spirit animal of the kingdom of darkness, the Wendigo.

COYOTE: A what now?

JIRO: I think I've heard of that from a horror video game before.

PHEONIX: I'm sure you have. The Wendigo is a cannibalistic entity that is described as either a fearsome beast that stalks and eats humans or as a spirit that possesses humans, causing them to gain a hunger for their own kin and want to eat each other.

JIRO: *gets goosebumps* What the fuck...

PHEONIX: You see, us four never knew it *head drops in shame* but that fool was plotting against us for years, years.

COYOTE: Plotting?

PHEONIX: You see, the Wendigo would sometimes take control of its holder's mind and drive them to a point of insanity and cannibalistic nature. The Wendigo would then make the holder eat its own people, flesh and blood alike. Whether it was women, children, or even family members of the holder. The Wendigo would control and kill. Over and over again, countless times, with countless holders over the years.

JIRO: *clinches fist* WHY!

PHEONIX: That question riddled me and the other 3 mythical spirits minds for quite some time. But we had found out that every time the Wendigo would control its holder and lead them to cannibalism, the Wendigo would get stronger in power.  It was doing this under our noses for thousands of years. Until we finally cracked the code. But it was too late. For an incident had taken place a little over a hundred or so years ago, one that changed the fate for our future forever. One that lead to a huge battle which should have never taken place. I'm sure your sensei Hokkyoku taught you about it. But now I need you, Jiro, to learn the truth about that battle.

JIRO: The truth about what battle?

COYOTE: *laughs* oh man, I know just what you're talking about.

PHEONIX: The great war of the elementals.
