Anna's Pov

I cringed at the sight. I clenched my jaw and tightened my fist. I know I have been through a lot, but this was the toughest challenge I have ever faced in all my years.

My eyes skimmed over to my math teacher, who starting passing out my worst enemy yet to face; Math Tests.

What can I say? Math wasn't my best subject. It's just all gibberish to me.

I gazed at the piece of cool paper that lay in Ms. Denmark's hand. I watched as she placed the test on my desk. Students around me began frantically scribbling and marking answers on their test, and I just sat down in the plastic chair and stared off into space.

Oh blueberry buttons. Math is like a freaking foreign language to me! In class, teachers say,"First, you add one and five together." And you look away for one second, and they are like, "SO WHAT'S THE SQUARE ROUTE OF 15 DIVIDED BY 6 MULTIPLIED BY 3 TO THE 9TH POWER SUBTRACTED BY .19383!?"

I heavily sighed and looked around the room, until I made eye contact with a certain blond headed boy.

David stared intently back at me, and made a constipated face while gesturing to the test laying in front of him. I pressed my lips together, trying to prevent a laugh from escaping as he dropped his head back and his body hit against the back of the chair, mouthing a "bruh."

I rolled my eyes as I faced the piece of paper laid on my desk and snatched my pencil in determination. I glanced back at David, who had a "Duh fudge?" face plastered across his features. He glanced back at me, and flicked his hand towards the paper, mouthing, "Boi."

I hid my face in my hand to hid my grinning face, and pressed my lips tightly together as choked laughs threatened to escape. I shook my head and wrote my name on top of the paper, and started working on my test. From the corner of my eye, I saw David with his eyebrows furrowed in concentration as he read a question carefully, and I pinched my arm as I tried to ignored the flutter inside my chest.

*****

"Oh my guacamole!" I rested my head in my hands, my arms resting on the lunch table.

Completing the math test was like being slapped twice, pooped on by a hoard of donkeys, wrestling with monkeys, and my body parts slowly being eaten off by sharks.

I may be exaggerating a tiny bit. Just a tiny bit.

"Math test?" David asked, scanning my horrible appearance. He perched beside me, setting his binder down on the lunch table. "Still hard?"

"Psh, no! It was easy!" I waved off. "I loved how I couldn't figure out a single problem. I loved how I have no idea what I was doing. Ooh! And I absolutely adored the way I fail them every time!" I rolled my eyes then scowled. I laid my head on my arms that were placed on the table, then turned my head in David's direction.

Stupid math test.

"You know, I could help you sometime. Just ask." He shrugged, mimicking my actions. He rested his head on his hands, gazing back at me while sticking his tongue out playfully.

"Oh my gosh!" I heard Riley's voice practically STAB into my ear. I shot my head up to see my best friend galloping towards me with a dreamy look on her face.

"What? Did you get shot by a cupid, because you seem all lovey dovey and crap." I scrunched my eyebrows.

"Jake asked me to the dance!"

"Riley, I get that you're excited and all but you really need to be aware of your noise leve- WHAT?!"

Jake Stevenson has been Riley's crush since freshmen year. She always talked about him, with never ending shrieks and complaints of how they would make the perfect couple. Ugh. "Someday!" She would always repeat.

I know what many people think; a school dance? Really? Buying expensive jewelry,  dresses, and suit? Isn't it a bit too much for only homecoming?

However, in my town, these events mean the whole world to us. From the insane dresses, music, food, and games. Our community always went over the top with these aspects. It was no sweaty gym with cheap decorations, it looked like as of it wasn't even a gym in the first place.

"Oh my gosh! Riley that's great!" I screamed  along with my best friend, with David watching with with an eyebrow raised.

"I still can't believe this! And many weeks before the dance! Perfect timing!" She gushed, casting a dreamy far away gaze. Suddenly, she turns back to me, wiggling her eyebrows. "I can't wait for a special some to ask you my Anna BEAR!" She implied, appointing to DAVID'S original nickname for me when we were best friends.

Oh wouldn't that be something?

I've always dreamed of us having our magical night together since I was in elementary school, but that fantasy was flushed down the toilet since our first year of high school. It would be wrong to go with him. He's still trying to earn my trust right? And yes, he has moved beyond the stage of earning my "respect".

So I guess my hopes and pretty much FORBIDDEN from the land of Anna.

"Yeah, can't wait to find out who your special someone is.." I distinctly heard David mutter sarcastically under his breath.

Did he just? Or is it my imagination?

"Well, I bet no one would ask a girl like me out. So why would I get my hopes up?" I laughed humorlessly. I took a big bite of my pizza and chewed miserably in my loneliness.

If I wouldn't have love for the rest of my life, might as well rely on food, right?
