Alice's P.O.V
June 10, 1970
Paul and the kids made a trip to for some groceries. I was in the kitchen with Helen. I was making some tea.
"Do you and Fred still keep in touch?" I asked Helen.
"We do. He's studying to become a marine biologist" Helen said
"That's sounds exciting" I said
"I miss him though. We haven't seen each other in awhile. I want to say we're boyfriend and girlfriend but we don't act like it" Helen said
"It's that kind of relationship, huh?" I said, setting a cup of tea in front of Helen.
"Yep" Helen said. Just then, the phone rang. I went to go answer it.
"Hello?" I spoke into the line
"A-Alice" it was Mabel. She sounded really upset.
"Mom? What's going on?" I said
"I-it's your dad, Alice" Mabel said. I froze for a moment.
"What happened?" I asked
"He got hit by a car and now he's in critical condition at the hospital" Mabel said. I felt the tears start to swell in my eyes.
"Oh my god" I said
"Alice, you need to come back to London. Your father keeps asking for you" Mabel said
"How long?" I said
"I don't know Alice. It depends on how long it will take for your father to get better" Mabel said
"If he doesn't die first" I said, my voice cracking a bit.
"Alison Grace McCartney! Don't you think like that. You and I both know that Robert will get better and he'll live till he's a hundred!" Mabel said
"When do you want us to be there?" I asked
"As soon as possible" Mabel said
"We don't have a place to stay though. Paul and I sold the other place before we moved to Scotland" I said
"You'll stay with me until Robert is out of the hospital" Mabel said
"Alright. When Paul gets home, we'll pack and be there as fast as we can" I said
"Alright. I love you Alice" Mabel said
"I love you too mom" I said. The line went dead. I stood there and started crying. Helen rushed into the living room.
"Alice? What's wrong?" Helen asked
"Dad got hit by a car and now he's in critical condition at the hospital" I cried. Helen wrapped me in a comforting hug. At that moment, Paul walked in with the kids and Martha.
"Alice, we're-what's wrong?" Paul asked. I looked at Helen.
"Can you take the kids to their rooms please?" I asked Helen. She nodded.
