Alice's P.O.V

December 25, 1973

When I woke up in the morning, I still felt some guilt about what I saw last night. I really needed to tell Pattie and Ringo but at the same time, Paul did have a point. If George and Maureen do feel guilty, they'll end the affair and Pattie and Ringo will never have to know. When I wandered to the kitchen to make my morning tea, I heard Pattie speaking on the phone.

"No, no. George has no idea. He isn't suspecting anything" Pattie said

Hang on. What is that supposed to mean? Pattie couldn't be....but is she?

"I have to go. Everyone is going to be waking up soon. I love you too Eric. Bye" Pattie said and hung up the phone.

Eric!? Who is this Eric and why is Pattie telling him 'I love you'

I saw Pattie approaching the kitchen so I quickly rushed in and got started on my tea.

"Morning Alice" Pattie greeted as she joined me.

"Morning. I heard you talking on the phone" I said.

"Yeah, just talking to my parents" Pattie said. I just nodded in response. I put the water on to boil.

"I'm going to see if Paul is awake yet. If the kettle whistles, can you turn the burner off for me?" I asked

"Sure thing" Pattie said. I smiled and went off to the bedroom. Paul was still sleeping. I quietly sat beside him.

"Paul, I need to speak with you about something" I said. He moved slightly but he didn't wake up. If that didn't work, I knew something that would. I leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to his lips. Paul's eyes fluttered open.

"I love waking up to your kisses. You should wake me up like that more often" Paul said

"I need to tell you something" I said. Paul sat up.

"What is it?" he asked.

"I heard Pattie talking to someone named Eric on the phone" I said.

"And?"

"She told him that she loves him"

"Are you sure that you heard her say that?" Paul asked

"Why would I be making this up?" I said.

"I believe you, love" Paul said.

"What are we going to do Paul? I can't live with myself knowing that George and Maureen are having an affair, and that Pattie is having an affair with some guy named Eric" I said.

"This Eric, it wouldn't happen to be Eric Clapton, would it?" Paul said

"Possibly. What the hell are we going to do?" I said

"We're not going to do anything. It's not our business so we shouldn't get involved. This whole thing will resolve itself" Paul said.

"If you think it's the right thing, then so be it" I said.

"That's my girl" Paul said. He cupped my cheeks and brought me into a loving kiss.

Throughout the whole day, the guilt of what I knew about George, Maureen and Pattie would not seem to go away. Paul sensed this because he would either grab my hand and gently squeeze it in assurance or he would sneak me a kiss. After dinner, there were dishes to be done. I started packing up all the dirty dishes and it took me by surprise when Ethel offered to help me. We brought all the dishes into the kitchen.

"Why do you want to help with the dishes? You're the birthday girl. You shouldn't have to do the dishes on your birthday" I said

"I know. I just wanted to help. You also look sad about something and I want to make sure you're okay" Ethel said

"I'm fine, sweetie. It's just adult stuff that you wouldn't understand yet" I said

"Okay but remember I'll be there if you need someone to talk to" Ethel said. I smiled and brought her into a hug.

"How did I end up having such a sweet girl for a daughter?" I said

"It's because you're my mommy and I love you" Ethel said

"I love you too" I said.

Thanks to Ethel, I eased up for the rest of the night. It was late so I tucked all the children into bed and then made my way to the bedroom. Paul was sitting on the bed waiting for me.

"You seem a lot better than you were earlier" Paul said as I crawled into bed with him.

"That's only because your daughter is an amazing therapist" I said

"You didn't tell her what was going on, did you?" Paul asked

"No. I told Ethel she's not old enough to understand but she did say she'll always be there for me when I need someone to talk to" I said

"She's not the only one, you know. I'll always be there for you" Paul said

"I know you will" I said. I pressed a kiss to his lips. He kissed me back and didn't pull away until he was satisfied.

"Love, with what's going on, I just need to be sure of something" Paul said

"What is it Paulie?" I asked

"You wouldn't ever have an affair with another man, would you?" Paul asked

"James Paul McCartney, don't you ever think such a thing. My heart belongs to you. I made that clear long before we even married each other" I said

"I know, and I'm sorry for asking. It's just you're such a gorgeous, intelligent and down to earth woman. There's other men who would love to worship the ground you walk on but I know I'm the only man who can do that" Paul said

"And you are Paulie. I'll be damned if another man tries to sweep me off my feet. I don't have to worry about any other women, do I?" I asked

"Heavens, no. You're fucking perfect. You know how to make me happy and you know just how to please me. There's no other woman in the world that can compare to you" Paul said. He placed a loving kiss upon my lips.

"I'm going to show you how much I love you and how much you mean to me. I'm going to show that there's no way in hell I'm ever letting you go" Paul said. The amount of passion he had in his voice only foreshadowed the passion I'd be feeling tonight.
