Chapter 19

Alice's P.O.V

Maureen was seated on the couch beside Helen. Zak, Jason and Ethel were playing together on the couch. Paul had gone upstairs to get Mary. I was in the kitchen, making some tea while I listened to Maureen and Helen's conversation.

"So, when's the baby due?" Helen asked

"November 17" Maureen said. I finished the tea and I brought it out into the living room. I poured a cup of tea and gave it to Maureen. I then sat on the opposite couch.

"Thank you Alice. Where's Paul and Mary?" Maureen asked

"Paul is getting her. They should be down in a moment" I said. Just as I finished my sentence, Paul came down with Mary. His attention adverted to Maureen.

"Mo?" Paul said

"Hey Paul" Maureen said.

"It's been awhile! How are you?" Paul asked

"Everything's been alright. Ringo and I are expecting a girl in two months" Maureen said

"That's great Mo" Paul said. He sat beside me on the couch I was sitting on.

"Alice and I are thinking about having another child" Paul said, grabbing my hand. I smiled at him.

"That's good. You both make really great parents" Maureen said.

"How's Ringo doing?" Paul asked.

"He's been drinking more than usual and sometimes he's not home. I'm worried about him. The breakup really affected him and it's affecting our marriage" Maureen said.

"We're sorry Mo" I said

"It's alright. What about you Paul? Are you doing alright after the breakup?" Maureen asked.

"I admit that I was depressed for a couple of days but it was thanks to my angel that I got back on my feet" Paul said. He looked at me and smiled, squeezing my hand.

"Aww. You guys are the greatest couple ever" Maureen said.

"They are but at least you don't have to hear them going at it almost every single night" Helen said. I gave Helen a glare. All she did was shrug and look at me with a smirk.

"Okay, details of your sex life I don't need to know" Maureen said awkwardly. Mabel entered the house carrying some groceries.

"Oh! Maureen! How nice to see you!" Mabel said

"You too Mrs. Martinez" Maureen said

"Please, call me Mabel. I was just going to go into the kitchen and start on dinner. Would you like to stay for dinner Maureen?" Mabel asked

"I'd love too" Maureen said

"Mom? Do you need help with dinner?" I asked

"Not really but if you insist on helping then please do so" Mabel said. I got up from the couch and followed Mabel into the kitchen, leaving Paul, Maureen and the kids in the living room. Mabel set the groceries down on the table.

"You want to help make dinner so you must need to talk about something" Mabel said

"Maybe I just want to help my mom cook dinner" I said

"Alice, it's okay. If you need to talk to somebody, I'm here. That's what moms are for" Mabel said

"Alright. When I came home today, I found a note laying under the door" I said

"Who was it from?" Mabel asked

"Nellie" I said. Mabel froze and looked at me.

"Did she hurt you? I swear if she touched my baby, I will murder her" Mabel said

"No. She hasn't physically hurt me since yours and dad's wedding" I said

"So she hasn't hurt you physically hurt you, just emotionally and mentally" Mabel said

"Yeah. She was the one who hit dad with the car. She was trying to kill him" I said. When I said that, Mabel clenched her fist and jaw and then reached over for a knife.

"What are you doing!?" I asked

"I'm going to go look for that psycho bitch and then I'm going to kill her" Mabel said. I reached over for the hand that was holding the knife and made her put it down.

"No, no. Murder is not the way to go" I said

"Fine. What else did she do?" Mabel asked

"Nothing yet. She wants to take Ethel away from me because for some reason, she thinks that Ethel is her child. She also wants to take Paul away from me. She said she'd do anything to make my life hell" I said

"If that bitch thinks that she's going to come anywhere near my daughter, my grandchildren, my son in law or my husband, she's going to end up with a knife in her throat" Mabel said

"What did I say? Murder is not an option, no matter how much we both want her dead" I said.

"Alright but if she tries anything else, please call the police" Mabel said

"I will" I said

"You go back in the living room. I have some vegetables to cut and I'm going to have a lot of fun pretending I'm cutting Nellie's chicken head off" Mabel said. I went back into the living room where Paul and Maureen were finishing off a conversation. When they were done talking, Paul looked at me in concern.

"Maureen, what did you tell him?" I asked

"I told him what was going on with Nellie" Maureen said

"She told me everything, love. She told me how Nellie tried to kill your father, how she wants to kidnap Ethel, how she wants to take me away from you, how she just wants to make your life a living hell in general" Paul said

"Yeah well I'm not going to let her. She's not going to get to me" I said. I walked over to the couch and sat back down beside Paul.

"Love, promise that if she doesn't leave you alone, that you will call the police. You could have her arrested for stalking and attempted murder" Paul said

"I promise I will. If she does the same to, you better call the police as well" I said

"I will, love. You don't have to worry about me though. I'm more worried about you" Paul said

"You don't have to be but if I ever need your help, you'll always me my knight in shining armour" I said. He gave me a smile and a wink. No matter what, I know Paul will always be there to protect me.
